I haven't been here in a while. I am 5 wks post op and I must say my road was not as easy as I thought it would be. I have lost 31 lbs in 1 month, but must say I am not as happy about it as I thought I would be. For the first 3 wks I really couldn't tolerate anything due to the most horrible nausea you could imagine. I also should have taken more time off from work, as 2 wks was not enough, especially since I didn't bank on having the nausea complication. I returned to work 2 wks ago, and I am still not able to take in the amt of Fluid I should be, and the semi solids are not going too well. I look like I lost wt due to sickness, not from diet- my face actually looks a bit gaunt, and my butt is losing it's air, going a bit flat ;(. I feel really tired, and when I get home from work, I am wiped out. Pretty much because I have a very hands on job with lifting, pulling, on my feet and I'm not really getting in liquids or food, or not nearly the amt I should. And the Protein, ahhh the protein- not happening... I am cranky and very irritable ( almost like a non stop PMS). I really wish I could have stayed home longer, to be able to take time to try the fluids more and experiment with foods to see what works, it's kinda hard to do this in 30 mins with people calling you back early from break, if you are lucky enough to get one. I try, and will continue to try, as I hear it gets better. I just wish I felt better, but even with all of this, I don't regret my decision. Dr Alvarez and his team were excellent. I travelled alone and felt very comfortable. I just wish I could have continued to feel as good as I felt when I was there. I welcome suggestions and comments.

Help please... Hi everyone.... Post op day 9 ... this has really been rough I haven't posted because I really haven't made too much in the way of improvements. I'm 1 wk 2 days post op and should be able to start full fluids but still cannot tolerate CLEARS.... My urine is light tea colored and I only pee once a day, and I totally feel like CRAP. I have contacted the Dr. and am doing everthing I have been instructed to do, but this body is not cooperating. I sip, sip, sip and only abt a half a sip per sip at that and by the time I've sipped 8 times over abt a 30min period I feel horrible... The nausea is worst then when I was pregnant with my daughter. I actually took a pregnancy test (negative of course) because that is the last time I experienced nausea like this. I've followed this to the T, and still I feel like no progress....... This is the first time I have actually done something for my self, and I feel so DEFEATED right now.. I like many others only told immediate family (hubby the kids- not even my mom) and I know my husband is trying but he said today you are so weak, and you can't even drink the water..was this really worth it? And I said through tears, I think it will be... but honestly I'm not so sure anymore?

Help....what Else To Do?
CommonVibe replied to CommonVibe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ladies, I send you all the most sincerest thank you ever. You were all correct... I was badly dehydrated. I've spent the last 4 hours in urgi care getting rehydrated, meds for the nausea, and found out I have a UTI, due to me not passing urine or having enough fluid. I have to return tomorrow for more IV fluid and IV antibiotics... You have no idea how much I APPRECIATE you all for your encouragement and caring.. I feel better, more alive and with it. The nausea has subsided, and the prescription for the nausea med is in the pharmacy. I was at my lowest point when I asked for help, and I am so glad that I did. I am back home, going to lay down, I'm really sore after sitting up kinda in a uncomfortable position for so long, but grateful to have been treated. I thank you all, and know I am not out of the woods, but feel the best I have felt since the surgery. I will keep you posted, and I'm sending you all hugs tonight -
Help....what Else To Do?

Thanks BlueOctober... My husband has been saying the same thing. I just really wanted to try to do it myself, but I see that's not working so well. -

Thanks allnewme...... Ok 4 days post op... And I still feel yucky.. I know its to be expected. I'm trying to sip, sip, sip and have even incorporated a shot glass so that I dont take too much, but I still feel super nausea with every swallow. I got no walking in yesterday besides the bathroom and up and down the stairs to get meds. I was totally drained yesterday, today also but will force myself to walk after this post. Maybe getting in 30 mls if that... I'm not hungry in the least, but feel like I could chew something, guess it's how puppies feel ) Going to walk now, maybe it will help...

Ok, 2nd day post op..... I feel so,so... My belly feels really bloated and sore, like I did too many crunches. I had grape juice/watered down before I left the hosp this morning. Not my drink of choice, so I got a Vitamin water, one of my favorite drinks, and 8 hrs later I am still nursing it. I tried to drink some of the Unjury chick broth, but have only consumed less than half, and it taste pretty good also. I know its only day 2. I dont feel nausea, unless I drink say 2-3 swallows of something tooo fast I guess. Just a weird feeling. I also feel like I want to have a GOOD BURP, but it wont come :/ Getting ready for my flight in the morning and back to real life..

Wow, 9 days out thats really great. I'm a nurse as well, but think I will stay out at least 2 wks/10 working days. I have to pull and lift alot in my area ( OR). I didnt tell anyone I was having this done at work, so I don't normally get much help on regular days and not expecting much when I get back either. How do you fit in your meals as we are supposed to sip, sip, sip all day? This is one of my biggest concerns as I hardly get lunch relief, and usually end up eating in the car on the ride home.....

Hi everyone, I was sleeved yesterday with Dr Alvarez, and all went well. I traveled alone, but met my sleeve buddy Tues., she and her husband. Rosie picked us up from San Antonio yesterday and we drove for abt. 2 and a half hrs to get to Eagle Pass. She checked us into our hotel room and we met her yesterday morning for the ride into Mexico. The ride into Mexico was all of 20 minutes of that. Safety was never a concern. There were no situations or movements that made me feel like what have I done. When we arrived to the hospital, I we were told we could choose who wanted to go first, and I was told because it was my birthday, the choice was mines to make. Soooo I went first, not because of the birthday, but I think I would have gotten more anxious sitting alone waiting for my buddy to come out. I was taken to my room after bloodwork and xray to change. Oh pre liquid diet I was 237, and when I weighed yesterday I was 226, so I totally feel like I should have cheated and had one slice of Dominican cake my best friend made for my Bday. But never having surgery before I wanted to follow the rules. Once changed, the nurse came to start my IV, and no sooner than she was finished the anesthesiologist was there and a stretcher was being wheeled around for me to get on. Last thing I remember was anesthesia saying to me as I was lying down, I'm going to give you something to relax you.....and relax it did, because next I woke up in the bed in my room. I must have gone in to surgery around 9:30 I want to say, when I awoke in the room it was abt. 3 pm. I remained without water or ice until this am around 8. I have not felt hungry or any real pain. I refused pain meds this am, because I didn't have any pain, except for a coughing fit that I that would literally kill me. As I sit here writing, I am sucking on huge ice chips every 3-5 minutes, and they feel like they are making me hungry. Other than that I'm good, thank God. I work with doctors and several of them were very negative about me coning to Mexico to have this procedure done. I have to say this is the best choice I have made in years for myself. I have not felt scared or nervous during this trip, and even though I traveled alone, do not feel lonley with all the check in's from Dr Alvarez and his team. The doctors I work with could actually take a lesson from him. The hospital is super clean, and the room is like a mimi hotel room, very clean and comfortable. I dont require too much hands on, so it is perfect for me. Feel free to ask me anything in case ther is something I have forgotten...And please excuse any typos, as I've typed this on the Ipad...

Single Incision Question
CommonVibe replied to ShrinkyDinkMe22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, this would be the icing on the cake, if I can have the single incision. And I love cake.... I also have a very physically demanding job, lifting, pulling, rolling patients. This would probably heal faster and allow me to get back to work sooner. So glad I saw this..... -
Single Incision Question
CommonVibe replied to ShrinkyDinkMe22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, and I'm in NY.... Going to Mexico with Dr Alvarez, I haven't heard anyone say or read any post that he does the single incision. Won't hurt to ask though... Thanks -
Single Incision Question
CommonVibe replied to ShrinkyDinkMe22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm gonna be sleeved on Sept 5th..... I would love to have a single incision, as I also have keloid skin. Where did you get your sleeve done? I didn't know you could request a single incision.... I will ask for this -
Having A Hard Time....
CommonVibe replied to Eos38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry to hear this.... Take it easy And like you said, you LOST 20lbs, not gain... All the best -
Hi, I will be sleeved by Dr. Alvarez on Sept 5, 2012. I am giving myself a 40th birthday present, that will surely be the best one I've given myself for years to come.... I am happy to have found this forum... Very informative For me the choice of Dr. Alvarez was also based on his experience, yes his price is a tad more than others, but I think I am worth the investment.
