    Pneumomediastinum

I am writing this so if anybody ever encounters Pneumomediastinum they might find this post. I got my band removed and sleeve done at the same time on June 1st 2012. Its been a little over two months since my surgery with no complications. Three nights ago I started to feel as if I were punched in the throat it was a really bad feeling it felt as if I swallowed something and their was a huge air bubble. I couldn't really talk or swallow without pain. I know it wasn't a blockage because I didn't really eat that much. I called my surgeon at about midnight and explained the situation he said to immediately go into the ER and get admitted that the symptoms don't sound too good since I just did surgery a few months back. At the hospital where I am still at 3 days later they have done x-rays, blood work, CT scan and upper GI. The only test to show something was the CT scan with die. It showed that I had Pneumomediastinum- basically it means the leakage of air into my chest cavity. The last test they want to do is a endoscopy but the surgeon doesn't want to do that at this minute so he is keeping me at the hospital for another 2-3 nights until he runs another CT scan to see if the air is gone or if their is still a build up...if build up is still there then its a hole somewhere and they will do the endoscopy and figure out what happens then. I have lost about 36 pounds with the sleeve and I have been doing really good this was the last thing I thought would happen especially 2 months out I thought everything was healed by now. I did lose a lot of weight with the band a total of 160 pounds in 6.5 years. I think I have reached my goal weight as of today of 185 I'm 6' and it feels good so not looking to lose anymore.
