    Any November 14Th Sleevers?

Lost 11! I can start mushies today. I went to the commissary and got the goods. Puréed some chicken and avocado with hummus on the side. Was only able to eat 3 tsp and got full. So satisfying! It's good to have meat again! I'm in a good mood now.

    Flavored Water

You want to make sure it has enough Protein. Isopure has it, but the taste is a little off. I think I'll experiment with crystal light or mio and unflavored whey powder.

    Help Please

Please call your Dr.! Don't let your dehydration go on and get serious. He should have a number you can call for after hours support. The pain could be coming from gas, too.

    Its So Hard!

Me too. Had to cook: collard greens, ham steaks, Mac and cheese with rotel, and yams. Got to have the pot liquor from the greens with hot sauce. Still so good! And had a tiny bite of ham, chewed thoroughly. Later on will have chicken broth with chipotle and tamarind (lots of hot sauce. Kinda like a hot and sour Soup without eggs...

    Pre Op Diet Cheating........anyone?

I feel ya there Michi... The last day I had.... MCDONALD'S!!!!!! But I only had a little bit. I got the cheddar onion cheeseburger (think of a kiddie cheeseburger with white cheddar and grilled onions) and small fries. I was full. But the surgery still went through. It wasn't like I ate like that every day. I had to have that last fling!

    Nov 14 Sleevers?

I had mine on the 14th. Discharged on the 16th. They started me out with morphine during the hospital stay, last day they gave me dilaudid intravenously (that was WAY better). Sent me home with vicodin (in liquid form), can take every 4 hours. It helps me move around more. Laid up on the couch for the first couple of days, then hubby kicked me out. CPAP was harder to tolerate lying in the bed on my back. I sorta get tired of Protein shakes and Soup, but I invent ways to make it interesting. I’m drinking the Jay Robb whey Protein; I got the vanilla and the chocolate. Today I put cinnamon in the vanilla and used Mootopia lactose-free fat-free milk because it has 12 grams of protein (I mentioned that in another post). It tasted really good, like horchata! With the Soups, I mostly buy the ones in the bags and boxes, and I’m allowed to use hot sauce. Still can’t wait till my 2-week post-op appointment, though. Need some meat, doesn’t matter if it’s pureed!

    Anybody Have Blue Shield ***?

I have BCBS Fed, but I gave them my insurance info at the seminar in April. It took a couple of weeks I think. I did my first pre-op appt. in May this year. They said they would get it all approved as long as I had a sleep study and do a 3-month supervised weight loss.

    Chewable Iron - Anyone Taking

Ok. Looked at drugstore.com and the product is called Spatone pur-Absorb Iron. It does come as ferrous sulfate, and gives you 30% of your daily value.

    Chewable Iron - Anyone Taking

I found some Iron that you can put in your Water at CVS pharmacy, but I haven't gotten it yet. Dr wants to look at my labs first to see how the chewable Vitamins are doing. If you can't find it at a local store, maybe try drugstore.com (they have everything) or any website related to that (GNC and stuff like that). I'm bored, so ill check on that too.

    Everywhere I Look....

I was thinking the same thing, both pre- and post-op. Even in commercials, I would see farm animals eating and think, "HEY, my food is eating that food! It's not fair!" But the cravings are starting to subside every day. Also I'm thinking, hey if I go back to the old me, my money goes right down the drain. Money is just a powerful motivator for me. Everyone is different.

    First Spin Class...nervous

Yes it is hard. No, you should not make excuses! It gets better after the first class! You will probably be hauled out after the first one, and your body will ache all over. But guess what? You be wanting to do it again.
  14. Going home today! Cant wait to spend the next four weeks…well..anywhere other than work?

  15. Had my sleeve yesterday. Get to go home tomorrow. I’m getting enough fluids in and can walk around more. Now they are switching my pain meds from morphine to vicodin (the liquid one). Thanks to the great staff at Christus Santa Rosa AND Dr. Peterson for making this a great success

    November Sleevers Day 1-5

I do know one thing... I’ll never eat Hunt’s Snack Pack sugar-free Gelatin Snacks EVER again. It’s so hard to describe these things! They are not even soft at all. And they taste groooooooossssss. And they have a skin! Not like pudding skin, but there is clearly an outer layer tougher than the gelatin underneath. I left the rest of them in the fridge at work and wrote on the top of them “Free Jello, NO JOKE”. Well, it’s been two weeks and they are still in the fridge at work. Looks like there is a joke after all, and it’s on me. From now on it’s Jell-O for me as far as gelatin goes!

Nervous - I Begin My Pre-Op Diet Today

I’m on a totally liquid diet here. My sleeve is on the 14th! It was really hard for me too. What helped was the fact I could have broth and strained cream Soups. I put hot sauce in mine as often as I could (hey, no carbs!) I did have a few bites here and there of solid food, but it didn’t seem to affect anything, I still lost some fat in my midsection. I used Jay Robb whey Protein mostly, with a Blender Bottle. Occasionally I would put Starbucks instant coffee in it (Italian Roast) and it would be more enjoyable. I have all sorts of extracts too to put in them…coconut, strawberry, banana, orange, almond, vanilla... I also have the pantry stocked with Isopure and Crystal Light and Mio so I could have options other than Water to drink. I am very against artificial sweeteners, but if I want to do well, I don’t seem to have a choice! Being inventive without ruining your diet (remember low sugar, low carbs, low calories) is the number one thing that will get you through the pre-op phase.
  19. Two more days till my sleeve. Lost another 5 lbs on the liquid diet. Started at 214 on the diet, now 205. Was 224 before it all...

    Pre Op Diet Cheating........anyone?

I have my surgery November 14, started my pre op diet on Halloween. I've only cheated twice so far, but I've only had a few bites of whatever I tasted. 1st time was a leftover mac & cheese (and I make a mean pot of them too). The second was some Soup that my husband had made with tiny noodles and little pieces of hard salami and mixed veggies... OMFG! I caught myself on the second bite then took the rest of it and strained it while I was supposed to. I'm supposed to be on a high-Protein, low-carb, fat free diet for the pre-op. But I see that a few ladies and gentlemen are having at least one meal (I'm soooo jealous). I asked my nutritionist about it, and she said that the all liquid diet is what the doctor feels is best for his patients. And I DO trust my doctor...it just really sucks though. It's like, every time you start a diet you see food everywhere!
  21. Has anyone else ever tried this? I think it's better tasting than anything else I've tried. I really like the fact that you can mix it with Water, milk, or juice and it doesn't get lumpy like Muscle Milk powder. I usually mix it with HEB Mootopia (it's a Texas thang, y'all) lactose-free, fat-free milk...it already has 12 g of Protein per serving and the Jay Robb has 25 g. I mix it with instant decaf coffee and it tastes sorta like a frappucino, still very yum! No sugars (except with what you mix it with), it has amino acids, and no artificial junk.

    Fmla (Medical Leave)

I’ve done all of my pre-op stuff (I’ll be starting the diet on October 31), and my surgery date is scheduled for November 14. I’ve been keeping my boss up-to-date on my appointments, and I’ve been saving all of my sick leave (currently up to 157.75 hours, with 0.25 hours of comp time, and 58 hours of annual leave). I only expected at least two weeks off, and some change. When I call the hospital to make sure before I put the leave in the system, the nurse said that she would like me to take 4 weeks off! Whoa! Not that I mind having 4 weeks away from some of the idiots that I encounter on a daily basis, but has anyone else been told that they need this much time off. I know I don’t HAVE to take the whole 4 weeks off, but I’m so tempted. The boss said that it would be totally ok, I just need to invoke the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) so I can use my annual leave and comp time with my sick leave. Has anyone else had to use their FMLA as well? Or does anyone else have an experience like mine?
