How low was it? Mine gets low from time to time. Most recently from dehydration during pre-op diet, and man could I tell! I was waking up with Charlie Horses. Other causes could be frequent/excessive urination, sweating, or diarrhea.

You're right! I just looked it up. Sorry I was used to ultrasounds we do on the cardiac unit which is looking at the valves, and also renal ultrasounds--which neither require NPO. I completely overlooked when OP had mentioned gallbladder!

I thought mine would be a simple interview to weed out possible psychoses like OCD, or people who would go psycho after they were suddenly skinny. Nope. Mine. Was 4 hours long. The first hour was the interview which started normal enough. One moment he was asking about my line of work and if I enjoyed it, etc, then suddenly asks if I hear voices lol. I actually 'lol'd but be kept a straight face, and I thought that was one strike lol. He then proceeded to lead me through mental exercises I remember doing on clinically insane patients while in nursing school! The last 3 hours consisted of me taking several tests on paper. One test was a few hundred questions long. In a nutshell, it wasn't cake like I read online most people experienced. I asked him at the follow up what type of personalities he would NOT allow to have surgery, and he said emotional eaters, addictive personalities, and people with poor coping mechanisms. Also people currently undergoing clinical depression. As he stated, your WLS journey would be most successful if those factors are treated before surgery happens. Hope this helps, and best of luck!

Things I Cant Wait For People To Not Say...
Isobella replied to gelen's_change's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I once had a transsexual hair stylist tell me, "You have such a pretty face! But how about if you just don't eat for a while?". I sincerely found it amusing lol, but overtime, similar comments just build up and its hard to just ignore them. -
Hey ladies! So glad we have a 20's something section on this forum. Other than having the surgery itself, it's kind of hard relating to other older members sometimes lol. I'm 24 and was sleeved this last Wednesday, August 8th. I'm glad I got it now as opposed to down the road when my comorbidities from being obese had caught up to me, AND the surgery would be more risky. Plus that, our twenties are supposed to be some of the best youth years-- we're fabulous ;P. The only reason I told everyone I was getting surgery is because I'm a nurse and it would be hard to hide the evidence from fellow nurses. Plus I'm a terrible liar lol. I don't care what people think. Best of luck to the pre-ops!!! Be excited!!!

Ultrasounds are noninvasive, so I don't see why you would have to be NPO. The purpose of NPO is to make sure the patient doesn't vomit from use of sedation or the introduction of tools down either the airway or esophagus, because you could develop aspiration pneumonia. If that's the only procedure you have planned, it shouldn't be NPO (at least in my nursing experience, but guidelines change all the time, so call the day before just to be 100%).

I was asking those same exact questions just one week ago! I was sleeved just this last Wednesday August 8. Like someone said above me, my first three to four days were hellish. I say hellish simply because of the frustration of being in normal post-op pain. (I had weird pains radiate from my diaphragm to between my shoulder blades every time I tried to sip even the smallest amount of Water.) I'm still surprised I'm never hungry. Now that the swelling has started going down in my new sleeve, it's beginning to feel almost normal, except that I'm just never hungry, and I haven't eaten a solid for 3 weeks now (unheard of for me!). Just my two cents . Be excited!!!
