About One Year And Feel Like Failure
Illuminated replied to kltrn75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was talking to my surgeon about stalling or Plateauing and he said, during those times it is very important to really exercise and get your resting heart rate up to burn more calories and jump start your metabolism to start kicking the weight off. Try not to get discouraged and do your best to stay active and maintain your diet. Best of luck! -
Having A Hard Time Getting Back Into Work Mode...anyone Else?
Illuminated replied to cantwaittolose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not gone back to work yet, but I already know the same thing will be happening to me. I am actually nervous about being able to get all the Water and Protein in when I am running around the whole day and for the particular work I do I cannot always have a bottle with me. Hope someone has some suggestions for us! =) I am an august sleever also and use to live in the OC! Good luck! -

Ryan, you inspire me with only 7.6 lbs to go! Awesome! So happy for you and the others. I hope to be inspirational for my family and friends. I am really open about the surgery and discussing with others. I only hope I will have the same success as you. Let us know when you get to goal! Good luck to you! -

My Op Has Been Cancelled Today :(
Illuminated replied to Serendipity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a true believer in everything happens for a reason, and I think it is better to have everything checked out before being operated on. I can only imagine how upsetting it is, but hang in there, once you are in the clear you will have a safe and well done procedure. =) All the best -
I had the chest pains, its light a tightening and your like WHATTT and then it goes away? They go away after the first few days =)

Old Bad Habits Creeping In
Illuminated commented on phoenixgen2's blog entry in The Weight Loss Journey of VegasBusby
I am right there with you. I have not been hungry yet. I just want junk food. And I do a really bad thing. I watch the food channel all the time :| Why do I do this to myself? I am absolutely 100% committed to losing weight and getting healthy. However, I am a food addict and I am nervous my old habits will creep up, maybe not in 6 months or a year but maybe 2 years from now or 5 years from now. It is scary, and in order to combat this, I think we need to really work on why we crave food and what the draw is. In my classes I was required to take to get the surgery, they often said we will be getting bariatric surgery, not brain surgery and we need to be able to change the old us and our old way of life to be successful in the long run. I think what you suggested is really smart. Just finding something else to do or going out to exercise. Do you have any sleeve or WLS support groups around you? Sometimes just being around people with the same struggles, keeps you in check. Someone once suggested keeping a thoughts journal, and entering in why you are hungry, what you want to eat, what was the trigger and things like that so you can in the future stay away from the triggers and understand why you crave. I know we can triumph! Good luck =) -
I have the same problem and I am on week 3 now, I asked my surgeon, and he said to drink slower and that should calm it a bit. He described it as for the liquid you are putting in, air in ur stomach is being displaced, and therefore a burp will occur. I guess some of us are just lucky to have more air and what not than others. :| I do find that when I sip slower it does help a bit, but as the day goes on so do the burps.... Good luck to you =)

What R U Eating 11 Day Postop?
Illuminated replied to pattivalvo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was scheduled for only 3 days including the same of the surgery. But then they said I was not drinking enough and wanted to keep me another day because I had to start getting enough liquid in. It was ok though I did not mind too much because I was being taken care of and monitored an extra day. -

Oh the timer is really smart, I think I will do that. I think I may be taking smaller sips more frequently. I have had to really fight the urge to chug down the protein... -
What R U Eating 11 Day Postop?
Illuminated replied to pattivalvo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Ladies, I had my surgery on August 2nd and I AM THE SAME WAY! I am about to throw these protein shakes out the window. Geechee girl, It was funny because when I read your post you sound exactly like me. I am in socal and my surgeon is a little more lax and said if you feel up to it you can start the soft things a little earlier than the 14 day mark, but I am a little apprehensive and I think I may stick to the plan. I have been having a hard time getting all of the protein in because I don't really know how fast I should be sipping. How often are you guys sipping? and what exactly is a sip to you? Pre surgery I was a big gulper so I just want to make sure I am not over sipping. Thanks!!!
