  1. I got my CPAP a year ago as part of surgery prep. It totally saved my marriage as Hubbs was tired of my sawing logs so we were sleeping apart. I am 6 weeks post surgery and 30 lbs lost. I had to see the sleep doc because the pressure on my CPAP started blowing my mouth open. I was waking up with cotton mouth and the racket was, you guessed it, waking up Hubbs. Doc turned down the pressure on the CPAP and says if I keep losing and getting healthy, I will probably be CPAP free at goal. This is very motivating!

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I so agree with the post that vitamins are harder to manage than keeping up with liquids! I can remind myself to take sips, but I am taking so many vitamins, and some have to be taken with food, that I have started carrying them around with me in a snack bag and parsing them out over th course of the day. Breakfast 2 Flintstones Complete Multivitamins chewables Mid-morning 1 Vitimin D3 and medicine tab Lunch 2 Calcium Citrate chewables Dinner 2 Calcium Citrate chewables Met with nutritionist today (NUT) and she says I forgot to add B12! At least that one goes under my tongue and not in my tummy!

    January 2013 Sleevers?

Walking is key to moving gas in the hospital. I also got some relief from doing what I did for my infant daughter: "burping" by patting the left side of my abdoment rhythmically and running my hand from ribs to hips to guide gas out of the large intestine. My nurses gave me a warmed blanket to help relieve muscles locked by morphine; that was heavenly. The best relief came from transitioning off morphine and down to codeine and then children's liquid ibuprofen. Once the narcotics were out, my gut work up and started processing the gas as it should. Hang in there! It gets better.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

Good luck, Y'all! I am one week out and feeling good. The staples are out, and I am drinking lots of coconut water (high in potassium/electrolytes), mint tea, and eating chicken broth, egg drop soup (no msg) and cream of rice (the latter in tiny portions!). See you on the other side!!

    January 2013 Sleevers?

Greetings, Jan. Sleevers. I was sleeved on Wednesday and came home Friday night. Surgery was longer than planned, so recovery room time was longer. General anesthesia can cause nausea. I had no idea. I do now! Worst part of hosptial stay was the gas. The morphine, which was followed by codeine, locked up my large intestine. So I could not eliminate the gas they used during the surgery. Walking and a warmed blanket on the belly offered some pain relief. Once I got off pain meds and onto children's liquid ibuprofen, the gut calmed right down. My incisions are small and staples come out on Monday. I think that is wicked fast, but the surgeon wants them out on days 5-10 to reduce scarring. Super weird that there is no dressing on the incisions. But the doc is right. They don't need them. I am sleeping alot. And I have never been so happy to drink boxed chicken broth in my whole life. Very comforting.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I, too, don't want anymore public failures. And some of my work colleagues are super judgmental. I am doing this for me. 2013 is my year! I am turning 50 in August and cannot bear to be so unhealthy any longer. It is finally my turn. Period.
