SkinnyJeans started following Dr. Alvarez, Incision Pain After 4 Months, Weight Loss Stall And Eating Too Many Calories? and and 3 others
-
I had my surgery in early September. Incisions have healed and all pain pretty much went away around beginning of October. Went on a business trip, and sat on an airplane longer than expected wearing jeans that were still digging in a little around my waist around the largest incision site. Since then, the muscle underneath has been constantly hurting. Everytime I sneeze or move around in bed or get up from the couch, the muscle in that are hurts. Not a horrible pain, but an uncomfortableness. Is this normal? I have heard that sometimes the internal stitching can take longer to heal sometimes and am wondering if this is the case? Am thinking I need to talk to my PCP soon if it doesn't get any better. But has anyone else had internal incision pain months after their surgery??

Weight Loss Stall And Eating Too Many Calories?
SkinnyJeans posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so I know there are lots of posts on stalls. I had my surgery 4.5 weeks ago. Lost 17lbs the first week. Weeks 2-4, it's been slow and I eventually lost 4 more lbs (but it's been up and down). On a side note, it's cruel that we see such a huge weightloss so quickly in the beginning and it slows down dramatically almost overnight and we get upset for "only" losing 1-2 lbs a week. I have to keep reminding myself this is a normal pace. Anyway, I know that even with the sleeve, it's possible to eat more calories than you think you are - darn foods are deceiving! So, I'm wondering if maybe what I'm eating is too many calories, hence the reason for the SLOW loss. I know I'm eating way under 1,000 calories, probably more like 500 calories (I know, I should track my calories better). Is this too many calories this early on? For example, I had about 1/4 cup of chicken salad with grapes (real mayo, can't stand fat free), and half an avocado. Tonight, I will have two turkey slices rolled with about 4 slices of pepperoni inside. This doesn't sound like a lot, but I know how food portions and actual calories can be deceiving. Should I be anything different? -
Second Week Weightloss At A Stand Still

I am so glad you posted this! I too lost 17 lbs the first week and now am at the end of my 2nd week - lost 1 lbs a couple of days ago and and gained 1.5 lbs this morning! I have been worrying that I would be the ONE person that the sleeve won't work for, but after reading these posts, I'm so glad to know that this is normal. -

5 Day Post-Op And Hungry
SkinnyJeans replied to SkinnyJeans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyday is getting better. Today, I didn't even have to take the pain meds, but I am still taking the acid blockers. The hunger feeling is getting a little better. It hasn't completely gone away, but it's more tolerable now. I weighed myself on Monday when I got home and I was down 6 lbs. I haven't weight myself since. I'm still scared to step on the scale because I'm still afraid that this surgery won't work or will work VERY SLOWLY for me. As anxious as everyone who has this surgery are to get on the scale, I'm terrified of it! I've just been so disappointed every time I've gotten on the scale that I avoid it like the plague now. I will check my progress on Sunday. Hopefully I will have lost a few more lbs. by then. -

5 Day Post-Op And Hungry

Thank you so much for your reply. You're right, I have to remember that it was a major trauma that my body has gone through but sometimes it's so easy to forget when the trauma done is inside your body where you can't see it. I am going to let my body heal, and try to keep reminding myself that this is part of the journey. Sometimes, I still can't believe I actually went through with the procedure and I'm sleeved! -
Hi everyone, I was sleeved on 9/7. So far, I feel ok. Not super great, not super crummy. I am only able to get about 16 oz. of Water in a day; 8 oz of chicken broth, and I'll have 1 fudgecicle and 1 popcicle a day. Currently, my biggest problem is the acid and hunger. I'm on the acid blockers the doctor gave me which has made it tolerable (it was really uncomfortable right after surgery). And I'm still taking pain meds for the largest incision site - it feels the tightest and I'm still feeling a little pain. My biggest problem now is the hunger. I am constantly feeling hungry. I've heard that the acid will mimic the hunger symptoms but all I do is think about food! I was hoping that my craving for food would go away with this surgery and that removing the majority of the Ghrelin would help as well but it hasn't so far. Is this because my stomach is healing? Will I eventually stop feeling the constant hunger and food cravings that got me in this predicament to begin with?

Heartburn/acid Reflux/gerd After Surgery - Does It Go Away Eventually?
SkinnyJeans posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled for my sleeve on 9/7. I've been reading a lot about people having heartburn/acid reflux post-op. I've never had heartburn/acid reflux before and I'm worried about getting it. For those who have never had it before, and got it post-op, did it eventually go away or is this something that we will live with forever? This is a big concern for me because my Mom has suffered many years from terrible heartburn/acid reflux (stemming from ulcers) and I've seen her suffer over the years. I just don't want to take medication for the rest of my life and have to go through the struggles I've seen my Mom go through. Also, because most of our stomach is taken out, I'm wondering what kind of long term effect this could have on us? Your insights are much appreciated!
