Hello from sleeved-to-be!
DanaInNewOrleans replied to sleevegurl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I stayed home and sent my hubby to my brother's house so he didn't have to suffer because of me! It didn't bother me at all not to go BUT I do think it may have been tough if I'd have gone and would have had to watch everybody eating some of my favorite things.... (oyster dressing, artichoke casserole...) -
Hey MK, The first 2 week post-op were the hardest. Actually the first 3 days were fine because I did not feel like eating or drinking anything. I made myself drink though because you really have to stay hydrated. A lot people end up dehydrated and in the ER. I was able to drink a few hours after surgery with no problems whatsoever so when I got home liquids were not a problem. I just didn't FEEL like drinking. I had Jello, broth, popsicles, fudgesicles the first 7 or so days. Then I was able to add full liquids which meant I could do Protein shakes, S/F pudding, watered down oatmeal and cream of wheat, creamy Soups.... Once you get past the first 2 weeks it opens up a little bit.... it's only now (6 weeks post op) that I'm eating somewhat solid food. Mostly baked fish, eggs, egg salad, etc.... Do you have your surgery date yet?

Hello from sleeved-to-be!
DanaInNewOrleans replied to sleevegurl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! Welcome to SleeveWorld (my own little name for this place. I reference it so much to my husband that now I just preface everything with SleeveWorld Alert)! My husband has no idea how much I weigh (or at least I think he doesn't -- but who knows-- he can sure see it though! ) When I first came here in August I did not post my weight either. I've NEVER told people my weight but after a few months I finally said, what the hell, it is what it is and everybody here is in the same boat. And it made me feel really comfortable that everybody was so supportive, whether they weigh ( or started out at) 450, 200, 310 or even 180. I also liked everyone's tickers...it really added to the experience and helped to overcome all the anxiety that comes along with this whole journey. So for me to add tickers I had to come clean... It was a VERY positive thing for me and felt like my first step to FREEDOM and PEACE in my own body.... Good Luck! ~Dana -

DanaInNewOrleans replied to LadiWobs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree....I've had absolutely zero problems with liquids and I can drink a 12oz shake ( I make my own) in a few minutes. I try to stretch it out but if I had my protein and carbs in liquid form on a consistent basis throughout the day -- which I have no doubt I could --- I'd be getting in a ton of calories. Now, when I eat real food it is like a giant stop sign appears with only a few bites. Now I get why they want you to transition to most of protein and calories coming from real food....it's a lot tougher and much harder to overeat by getting 70 grams of protein eating solid food. ~Dana -

My two cents... So what is OP is lying or exaggerating? What if she isn't lying or exaggerating? What if it's something in between? This forum is not a place to play Sherlock Holmes or House or Gotcha. It's no skin off my back if she's not being truthful (I like "not being truthful" better than "lying"...seems much less confrontational, especially when there is no proof). So, I offer my opinion and support to someone who might or might not be truthful...What did I lose? At most I lost a few minutes of typing, at best I offered support to fellow human being.... -

Hi, Did your doc give you an idea of what "more" means? I'm worried my calories are too high at 800 daily and my plan does not specify calorie amounts at all. Thanks! Dana -

I joke with my husband all the time that this is like a puzzle and somehow all the pieces are supposed to fit. I just do the best I can... lol

Is there such a thing as TOO MUCH PROTEIN?
DanaInNewOrleans posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just curious if there is some sort of reasonable limit on daily Protein. My plan has me at 70 grams per day. I could add more if I add Protein Powder to my Water (although not my favorite thing) and I'm wondering if it would have a benefit or if 70 grams is sort of the most a body can use in a day? And if you can add more, when does it become too much? ~Dana -

DanaInNewOrleans replied to LadiWobs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To gain a true 20 pounds of fat would require an extra 70,000 calories (each pound represents 3500 calories) over what her body burns to maintain her current weight. The only reasonable explanation is that most of that 20 lbs in Fluid retention. Unless of course she is somehow consuming a 5 Ben & Jerry's pints a day.... of course there could be some kind of fluke thing..... Hope they find out the problem. Good luck obs... -

My leak test was also done in surgery. Which to me makes much better sense -- why wait until you are out of surgery to detect a leak? If there is a leak then it's back to surgery. It also saves the patient from having to go through what appears to be a pretty miserable experience ( based on what I've read on VST). Just my opinion. -

Hi, We are twins! I'm 6 weeks out and have only lost 20 lbs. I am also being told the same thing about concentrating on protein and water. It's frustrating..... I'm thinking about dropping back my calories to 600. I'm averaging 800 now. But even on VST everybody is all over the map. Some say 1000 calories, some say 800, some say 60 carbs, some say 20..... -

Vitamin / Nausea Observation
DanaInNewOrleans posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've lived with a slight underlying nausea since a few weeks after surgery. Especially when I drink water or any clear liquid. I was not able to get enough water in because it was making me queasy. I skipped my vitamins yesterday (by accident) and realized today that I did not feel as nauseous all day yesterday. The only thing I could think of that was different was the fact that I missed my vitamins. I skipped it today on purpose to see if I was still nausea free.... today was even better than yesterday, almost no nausea or queasiness. Of course the real test will be when I take my vitamin tomorrow --- if I'm queasy then of course it's a fluke. I know vitamins cause nausea but I guess I didn't think it could linger all day/evening. I did some surfing and it seems like yes, vitamins can cause a constant queasiness. Some suggestions were Take vitamins before bedtime Split vitamin in two doses Try another brand of vitamin Just wanted to share in case anyone is having the same issue. ~Dana
