I have had to put off surgery in order to save up leave time. I used (and borrowed) many hours of sick leave during a recent total knee replacement and found it would take several days more leave for pre-op appointments, plus the time off for surgery, plus recovery time and post-surgical appointments.

The surgical hospital I will go to has been trying to offer pre-surgery appointment schedules in blocks of time, so those of us who live in very rural areas have to take off less time from work. They are perfecting that now, and will have more to offer at a later date.

In order to pay back the borrowed time and build up leave in preparation for the surgery, it will be about 9 months before I can have the surgery, judging by the way it looks right now.

The good thing is that the insurance company has offered to put me on the fast track for the surgery because of several comorbities, such as hypertension, sleep apnea, and hypertriglyceridemia. So now, it's just be patient...
