I'm sorry for what you are feeling. I can tell you that I had my surgery 11 months ago and I'm still losing. It's much slower now, but the scale is still moving down. I feel better than I have in the past 20 years. I am regaining the confidence I was meant to have. Everyday is a concious decision to eat food for fuel, not for pleasure. I'm guessing it will be that way for me for the rest of my life. I'm more than willing to follow that rule to never end up back where I was. Do I still to plan 100% the time? No. But I do it at least 95% of the time and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything! Best of luck to you and your final decision. For me, it was the BEST thing I've have done for myself EVER!

I'm going on 11 months out, down 104 lbs and I only told my DH and my BFF. That's it. No family members, no office workers, nobody else. I'm so glad I did.

Finding "True North" has been my best, most unexpected NSV of them all...when the End of the Road is overtaken by the Journey.
thinathart replied to Pookeyism's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This is one of the best posts I've read. Thanks for the reminder! -
for those of you who have had to have a colonscopy

As long as you do the prep, they'll do the procedure. Be home and near a bathroom when you start the prep. -
Weight gain because of birth control
thinathart replied to w8loss4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on depo for over 10 years, and I attribute a lot of my weight gain to it. I have mirena now and I love it. I took the shot every 10 weeks instead of 12 for spotting issues. It made me into an eating machine. -
Sorry, I should have said I suspect "my" dizziness is from low carb/low sugar. Mine is not from dehydration. I drink over 100 oz of water a day. I'll be meeting with my Dr. on Thursday. I didn't mean to come across as diagnosing anything. I'm a programmer, not a medical professional.

I find I get dizzy when I stand up from sitting, pretty much every time. My BP is good, so I'm not sure what the deal is. I'm going to bring it up at my 9 month follow up this week. I'm guessing it has to do with low carb/low sugar levels? I'll let you know what my Dr. says about it.

Same here! I thought you were talking about asking about PS. -
Bit of a rant: Pissed off - upset - depressed
thinathart commented on BigDaddyJoe's blog entry in My journey
Your wife is right. You look great. And I don't see any little old man in the pic that you posted. Keep up the good work! -
I'll be 42 and I had about 120 lbs to lose (19 to go), and my skin has been pretty good. My massage therapist commented on how well my skin has rebounded. The main exception is my arms. I'll be having that excess skin removed in a couple months. My PS told me that is the one area where the collagen in the skin is limited, so the elasticity isn't very good.

post plastic surgery question
thinathart replied to kaysonsmom's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I met with the PS in May. I had my VSG on Oct 30, 2012. I have my arms scheduled for November 2013, and the "girls" will be done early next year. My PS said the last 20 lbs I need to lose won't be coming from either of those areas. I didn't even talk about it with my VSG surgeon. I went straight to an expert in skin removal. -
I'm the same way with pulled pork. Why of all things does my stomach not like pulled pork? It's on the list of high protein meats...but it rebels every time I try. I haven't learned to stop trying in the last 10 months. I keep hoping one day it will decide it likes it after all.

I totally agree with what was said in prior posts. The NUT visits are very helpful for your life post surgery. I wish I had went into my visits with a better attitude, rather than to just fulfill my insurance requirements. Turns out, I still go to her when I get in a stall and her info is still helpful. Who knew?

"Hi, my name is George" - says my tummy - did you name your sleeve?
thinathart replied to Pookeyism's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I named mine "Fred". Close to 10 months post-op, he still has some attitude. -
I wish I could turn back the clock and have this surgery at 27, rather than 41. I feel like I wasted so much time not enjoying life because of my weight. It is the BEST thing I have ever done for myself!

Self pay initial consult question
thinathart replied to AtlantaRed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't get me wrong, I found it all to be very helpful, but my surgeon didn't require it. Best of luck to you! -
Self pay initial consult question
thinathart replied to AtlantaRed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder if you need all of the extra visits (nutritionist, psych, etc...) if you are self pay. I don't think my surgeon required it, my insurance company did. -
Besides weight loss, what has been the biggest benefit since getting surgery?
thinathart replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My mother-in-law had to finally say I looked very nice (after 20 yrs)! Seriously, off the BP meds, and my severe disc degeneration is 100% times better. I can actually move without pain now! Best thing I ever did. -
This morning I weigh 99.8 pounds less than I did before I started my journey (roughly 1 year ago, with surgery in October 2012). I wasnt' going to post until it was an even 100. But I thought, .2 lbs...really? You're going to let that stop you from celebrating this milestone? No way! I wish I had this surgery 10 years ago. I feel fabulous, both physically and mentally. I still make mistakes and continue to learn. I'm able to stick to plan 95% of the time. For those who are riding the fence, I can tell you that this is the BEST thing I have ever done for myself. I know it will be a lifelong journey battling my issues with weight, but I finally feel like it's a fair fight.

Sprung a leak at 6 months out, no more sleeve or tummy
thinathart commented on MrsGina's blog entry in 6 Months, this isn't good.
Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry to hear about your leak. My surgeon told me if i didn't get a leak within the first few weeks, I wouldn't get one. I'm going to let him know about your case so he doesn't tell patients that it won't happen several months out. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. -
I have a desk job. I had my surgery on a Tuesday and returned to work FT the following Monday. I didn't even tell anyone at work about my surgery. I felt fine.

I'm so glad I had VSG in Oct 2012. I feel 100 times better than I did a year ago at this time, mentally and physcially. I had my surgery in the states, but I have traveled to Mexico many times for vacations and have never had any trouble there. Best of luck to you for a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing you on the losers bench!

A little quality bed time is a good thing. Sorry you're feeling blah.

I never thought I would ever say this (EVER), but today I didn't work out, and I feel kind of bummed about it. Like I'm missing something. It kind of grows on you and into your routine. When you don't do it, you miss it. A year ago, I would have bet a million dollars I would have never said that, but I'm a new person since VSG.

Why did you choose sleeve over bypass?
thinathart replied to rocknrollmama1980's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I chose the sleeve over RNY because it didn't seem as radical (even though it probably is). I didn't want the malabsorption issues either. I have 2 friends that have had RNY, and while they had great success in the beginning, both have had regain. I'm hoping my tool keeps me on track and accountable for the rest of my life.
