I can't stop eating after my 1st fill ... help!!!!
CJQuilter replied to jeejee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my first fill yesterday. The nurse was holding my hand like I was an old lady. It did not hurt one bit. They put something on it to numb it and then a slight stick. I never felt a thing. I got 1 CC. Dr. told me that I may nor may not fill restriction after the first fill and that is normal. He said they don't like to do more than that because your stomach is still healing and it can cause erosion if it is filled too much. The next time I go in he said I get 1 more CC. Last night I didn't notice anything like I did when I first came home from the hospital. Today - I am just trying to be careful and watch what and HOW MUCH I eat.... so I can let this tool work for me. I feel fuller faster than I had been for the last week or so. I have lost 30 pds and was disappointed in the lack of weight loss. He said I had done terrific and they feel good if Lap band people lose 50 in a year....So I guess I was expecting wait loss like the gastric bypass folks where it seems to melt away. I need to talk with the nutritionist to get some new ideas. I was supposed to meet with her two weeks ago but she went to Italy and I went on vacation....so I'm behind the 8 ball on that. Carlotta -
Ange - I was banded on 6/18 in the afternoon and went back to work on Wednesday 6/20 for half a day. Then the next day - I spent the whole day. I was moving slower than normal (usually I walk with a purpose and fairlyfast - however, I was definately down to the "moseying style" of walking! Ha. No pain meds after Wed

tONITEACH - the reason for no straw is that it can get too much air into your stomach and can cause problems for you...at least that's what my doc and nut said. So I decided to follow their instructions - afterall - they've seen the results and I guess they just don't make stuff up to give us "rules for nothin". Of course everyone is different and I think some people have not had a problem with it. I was self-pay and after spending all this money - I'm going to follow the guidelines I was given. In the hospital they wouldn't even give me a straw to drink from. CJ

is it possible to loose 30 pounds in 5 weeks
CJQuilter replied to vixie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No I ate 70 grams of protein. did I type 70? And 30 grams of carbs. My nut told us to stay away from slimfast because it has too many carbs. -
Just follow docs instructions. The purpose is NOT to throw up. If you do then you likely have eaten too much - too fast - etc etc etc. I was banded 6/18....am not hungry. I am following the diet to the T.....also getting my Protein in 80 grams per day..via whey bullets 42g and Protein shake 35 grams. Drinking at the prescribed times...and absolutely am not hungry. I eat my 2 tbs of food at meal time and my A"food govenor" is full. Take care and do what doc tells you to do. Carlotta

I was banded on 6/18 and my bloating went away pretty much yesterday. My doc has a similiar prescribed diet as Annes. clear liquid first day = then total liquid rest of the week - then mushies starting 6/25. I call it my "food govenor". I can only eat about 2 tbs of food a meal time and I'm full. I'm not gonna stretch that baby out. 2 tbs is it! I've lost 10 pds since Monday. 17 on my preop low carb - hi protein diet before that. So I'm down 27 pds since 5/7/07 yippee! Its funny - even though I'm eating small amounts I AM NOT HUNGRY! I do not want to do anything to make the band slip while it is healing. So I am following his diet to the letter. Carlotta

shoulder and neck pain = but it is tolerable. I'm not in the leawst bit hungry and have only had liquids since surgery on Monday. I think next week I get to graduate to mushie potatoes and stuff like that. I think we are supposed to be healing this week and not eating...at least that's my orders. I wish everyone well. I didn't know that SF jello could be so filling! ha Carlotta F

is it possible to loose 30 pounds in 5 weeks
CJQuilter replied to vixie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
beet you could do it with lo carb hi protein les than 30 carbs per day and up to 70 protein....no more....but the weight comes off. It s mostly water coming out of the liver from the low carb///but hey it works. -
This is my 4th day after banding. I tried 2 tbs of Soup yesterday at lunch and dinner. It is frunnyy - I'm not even hungry....not light headed. I'm not sure what full feels like. So I'm sticking with the 2 tbs until I go see doc on Monday and get my staples out. I don't know if the twinges are gas pains or are what full feels like! 269 highest 2004 251 went to Dr. Cheblis 4/27/07 237 surgery 6/18/07 229 today 6/22/07 Carlotta

CJQuilter replied to CARIE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was banded 6/18 afternoon.....and went back to work yesterday - Wednesday for half a day. I'm here today hopefully for the full day. No complications...no problems. The firt night was a little uncomfortable,,,but since that time - smooth sailing. I hope everyone else is the same My 4 yr old grandson was here and I pushed him in the swing on Tuesday for about 1/2 hour. He loved that. it was good for me too - I think being up and about has made a big difference than if you lay around. Carlotta -

Surgery date 6/18. My doc required a sleep apnea test because he thought I might have that. I got results today that I do have a mild case - and want to do Cpap fit. They said they would loan me an automatic one if I couldn't get mine in time. Do you think doc will think that is okay? He is on vacation this week and next. I do not want to cancel this surgery date becaue I have it arranged through my work. CJ
-
Thanks Minty. His nurse is on vacation too. I think they went to some band seminar somewhere. I was just looking for reassurance. I think I will just have to wait it out! cj Good luck on the 28th! Carlotta

Hey Bevers....that fitday is a very cool site. I love the way it really shows you what you are doing with what you ate! Thanks for including it. My surgery date is 6/18...so I'm trying to lose as much as possible before then. I have been locarb - hi protein for the past three wks and have kind of come to a standstill. Perhaps this will jump start me into measuring more carefully. thanks again, Carlotta in Washington state

Urgent Question about Gum
CJQuilter replied to Susan3343's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I had my first nutritionist counseling - she warned of no gum....for fear it will get stuck/blockage. Carlotta -
I don't want to diet before banding or pre-op diet. Is this normal?
CJQuilter replied to hopefull loser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doc requires a pre-opm diet - to lose 5% of your body weight before surgery. It is a lo carb high protein diet. The reason is two fold....one that type of diet makes the liver shrink because it sits on top of the stomach -So the surgery is easier on you AND he wants to see that you can follow a diet - because to be successful after surgery - YOU MUST follow their instructions so you don't have problems and you don't gain weight. Carlotta -
Allison - while you are in the kitchen fixing dinner and lunches - try using canned food as weights - such as arm lifts - bicep curls - etc. Also if your child watches any of the Blues Clues - Jo Jo's Circus, that kind of thing....often they have interactive things for the kids to do with them. Join in! Good luck. You are doing the right thing for your child in the long run. he will have you around for a lot longer! CJ

Just about had it with people and negative comments on my surgery!
CJQuilter replied to wadew1976's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is exactly why I am not telling people at my work. Only my husband and adult children know and I have no intention of telling anyone else. It is humiliating to me that I have not been able to control this portion of my life. I have control over everything else - but not this eating thing. -
How did you feel? What did you eat? I'm trying to prepare myself and my family. 6/18 is surg date. cj
-
Hi...I am CJ. Surgery date of 6/18. getting excited - scared - wanting to know what to expect the first three days after lb surgery.

I went to an educational seminar last wk and have an apt tomorrow with Doc. My insurance will not pay - so I guess I guess I will be self pay. My hubby is going with me. I've been looking into this for the last few months. I'm not sure even what questions to ask. I want to have it done NOW....I DON'T WANT TO WAIT FOR MONTHS! This is the first time I have looked at this chat. I'd be happy to receive any pearls from you all who have been there. CJ
