This just got REAL!
FeeIsMe2 replied to LovinCheryl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I looked KetogenX up its a new protein by Bariatric Advantage -- basically you go on a liquid diet for 2 weeks before surgery, (to shrink your liver and make surgery safer) as many of us have. As for the low D, I too had the same problem and take supplements to increase my levels. Many doctors require some kind of weight loss before surgery, mine require both pre surgery weight loss and a pre op liquid diet. -
I use Myfitnesspal.com to track everything, I am more conscience of the protein than the calories -- but tend to be around 800 calories a day.

Good Luck everyone! You can do it!!
-
I had to wait until 3 months out -- ask your doctor or NUT.

Hi Sandra welcome and good luck with your journey!

Post-Op Discharge Instructions/Nutrition Support
FeeIsMe2 replied to CocoM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr has everything I needed from the start of this whole process. Nutritionists, psy for the evaluation, pulmonary specialists, he does the endoscopy himself . The only dr I had to see outside his office was a cardiologist which I chose from a long list that he provided. I followed a dr/ nutrionist recommended low carb high Protein pre op diet, then 3 weeks before surgery I was put on 2 Protein Shakes & a lean protein meal diet. After surgery I was met by a nutritionist at the hospital and given instructions (liquid) to follow until my post op appointment. At my 1st post op appointment I met with my surgeon & then the NUT and was moved to mushy foods, then 2nd post op I was moved to soft foods, 3rd appt I was moved from soft foods To all foods except veggies. You just really need to find a dr that will be helpful both pre & post op. Good luck! -
Post-Op Discharge Instructions/Nutrition Support
FeeIsMe2 replied to CocoM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it really depends on the surgeons/ doctors office. My surgeon has a great post op program, in fact my first few post op visits all including meetings with my surgeon and a nutritionist. -
I eat pork, chicken, lamb and beef all with no problems.

Appetite suppressants to get through pre-op diet?
FeeIsMe2 replied to erp's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly, I wouldn't mess with appetite suppressants, many are not FDA approved and may contain "crap" that could affect you during or after surgery. My surgeon said to stop green tea, st. john's wart, and other supplements 3 weeks before surgery. You can do the pre-op diet without them, you've come this far why take a chance of screwing things up now. -
Eating large amounts vs. Eating unhealthy
FeeIsMe2 replied to LovetoDeath's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you used a food tracker like Myfitnesspal? Maybe if you tracked your daily eating for a week or so, you would see how much you actually ate. Is it as little as you think? Does what you are eating, have a lot more fat / carbs than you thought you were actually eating... Just a thought... -
