I'm single so I'm use to being alone. My family lives in a different state. You have a strong will power to stay on your pre-op while others are eating real food. Good for you.

Anyone Out There Cold After Getting Sleeved?
tbearfan replied to Boofster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So timely. I was sleeved in July and just thought the A/C was changed. My sister was here to take of me and I didn't want to change it so she wouldn't be too hot. Then, I thought it was because the temps were getting cooler outside. Yesterday I work I was freezing and I even had an extra sweater on. I thought I was getting sick. So glad I'm normal--not a word that can usually be used with me. I have learned so much from this site. -
I am remaining at home so I won't be tempted. I'm just going to bake a tiny (2lb) smoked turkey breast, deviled eggs & greenbeans. A friend gave me a recipe for pumpkin protein pudding so I get to have dessert. I'm not going to my families for Christmas either because as we did growing up, there is handmade fudge, candy, cakes, and pies sitting around. I told them I would remain in the south this year.

Hello, The last couple of days I have had the munchies. This is the first time since my sleeve 23 Jul. I can only eat so much string cheese. I've also munched on pecans and walnuts. I know it is from stress at work and completing my degree...finally. Drinking Water doesn't help. My first reaction was to purchase grapes but those are high in carbs. I also purchased a box of Atkins snack bars but my nut said to stay away from Protein type bars. I'm stall so much and I don't want to regain any of the weight. What do the rest of you do? Thank you

Thank you everyone for your help. No I'm not hungry. It's only been three months since surgery so luckily I don't feel hungry. What is 'pirates bootie'? We can eat salads? I thought we had to stay away from salads because our tummies won't digest it. I have been wanting a salad with grilled chicken on top. Fruit is high carbs and where I had mine done the patients, depending on the doctors, are given a 25-30g carbs per day limit with goal of 80g protien. By the time I would eat 1/2C grapes it would zap 2/3 of my daily carbs. I've been wanting a nice juicy apple and a banana. Seems I'm always messing up regardless how hard I try. Thank you again for taking time to answer.

I Need Help Please!
tbearfan replied to jewels1227's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really? I guess doctors are different. It was even on the post op directions. When I was getting dizzing and weak I told them I was getting about 60g day and was told that 60 was good but aim for 80. I've felt better since I'm getting the extra. Maybe it is because I was/am so large? -
I Need Help Please!
tbearfan replied to jewels1227's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to shoot for 80g of Protein per day. I begin with a Protein shake that I blend with BSN Lean Dessert Protein powder. Sometimes I add 1/4C Greek Yogurt to add extra protein. It takes me about two hours to drink it. While at work I will eat string cheese, low carb yogurt (Carb Master found at Kroger), a Pure Protein RTD shake. I also take protein shots (I know, some don't like these but I began feeling better after I started taking them & my nutritionist is fine with them). when I get home I mix up tuna or or very lean hamburger. The Protein shakes help to get the liquid count. BariactricAdvantage has a lot of protein Fruit drinks, protein pudding, etc. I purchase some things from them so I can get a change. Hope this helps. -
Sleeve Date Is 01/08/13 ! Help With Clots And Leaks: Have To Do Liquid Diet For 6 Weeks Per Md. I Have Questions And Concerns. Please Help
tbearfan replied to rxkid2384's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello, I was very nervous about the same things. You will be fine. Just remember to following the post op diet. Try to get enough Protein and Water in. Your tastes will change after surgery. Nothing tasted right to me. That will slowly improve. Write down all of your questions and concerns then talk with your doctor about them. Turns out that I'm allergic to morphine so I had hard dry heaves a lot the night of surgery. I was scared that I ripped open my sleeve but it didn't. Don't get scared if you get sick at your stomach. If mine survived that first night in the hospital then you should be fine. I have titanium staples (they don't dessolve) in my sleeve. The dr also put a stitch between each staple. Don't eat steak or hotdogs, etc until you are at the right stage. There was a lady that had the sleeve about two weeks after I did and she ate a hotdog. It caused her to throw up and it caused a leak. When I went in for my 2mo check up she was still in the hospital. Anyone is in danger of blood clots if they don't move around. Try to relax and focus on your future and baby. Read about all of the positive things about the surgery. I was off of my pre-diabetic and high blood pressure pills the second week of my pre-op surgery. I'm able to walk a lot better. I still have arthritis but it's nothing like it was. When you get nervous think of how much better you will feel to be able to play with your baby and she will have a healthier mommy. I pray things will get easier. -

I was just informed that the shots from Wal-Mart are not the same as those I had ordered from Bariatric Advantage website. Here is the link for the good shots. https://www1.bariatricadvantage.com/catalog/list/11/Protein -
Protein Shakes Help Please
tbearfan replied to Carol Watts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK I goofed. When I saw the word 'Whey' in the name I thought it was the same as the ones I ordered from Bariatric Advantage web site. I just checked and it's not. The 'Yes Whey' brand says it is 100% whey. Again, thank you guys...I'm serious. I took for granted they were the same since the name was so similar. https://www1.bariatricadvantage.com/catalog/list/11/Protein -

Interesting. Thank y'all for setting me straight on the protein shots. I thought they were ok because I first found them on a bariatric website that my doc uses. I'm only 2 months post op and I admit that I'm still learning. I'm still in the trial and error stage...mostly errors. -

Protein Shakes Help Please
tbearfan replied to Carol Watts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sure does. Has protein isolates. Whatever the protein it works for me and I got approval to use it. I stopped getting sick after starting them and the doc was very pleased with my protein levels. That's all I can go by. -
Protein Shakes Help Please
tbearfan replied to Carol Watts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OTR sleever. The shots I purchase is made with whey protein which is absorbed by the body. My protein level when I had my blood work was right on. The nutritionist in with my surgeon thought they were good to use. -
Since our bodies won't accept that much protein at once I drink half (about 1.5oz) in the morning and the other half when I get home from work. I blend a protein shake in the morning and have a pure protein at lunch.

You are so funny. I didn't have pain in my right side until about a month after surgery. I figured it was probably the titanium staples rubbing something. Gurgling yes. In fact I still have it at times. At week two I couldn't stand the taste of anything liquid. My sister bought me one of the tropical drinks from Sonic. It was very sweet but it had a good taste. I had a lot of chicken broth the first three weeks. was so ready for real food. My ice tea still doesn't taste right. About a month post op I found protein shots at Wal-Mart. I wasn't able to get enough protein shakes down...there isn't room. I buy the 42gram shot and drink half in the morning and half in the evening. The shot plus a protein shake in morning and at lunch gives me my 80grams. -
I am so sorry you are having a bad experience. Ask your doc about coming off your bp meds. If you are dehydrated or not getting enough protein that can really make you sick. I was sick at my stomach a lot the first two weeks even though I was taking nausea medicine. As mentioned above, I am off my HB pills, pre-diabetic pills, and no longer taking over 1600mg ibuprophen for my osteoarthritis. Things will look up. A lot of people don't realize this is a major surgery. Our stomach wasn't bypassed....a lot of it was removed. It's a big life change. The sleeve is a great surgery and you will appreciate it when you get to feeling better. Hang in there. Try the protein shots (3oz tube) at Wal-Mart and see if they can help you feel better. I take one a day. Praying for your strength. Remember we are all here for you.

Protein Shakes Help Please
tbearfan replied to Carol Watts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Carol, As mentioned above a lot of things that I liked before surgery doesn't now. Remember that your sleeve is very angry right now so anything that goes down would probably make you sick. I took my nausea pills for the first two weeks and couldn't handle protein shakes until week 2. The Pure Protein is a good brand because it is also low in carbs as is the Atkins brand. Now, if you want a variety of flavor I buy BSN Lean Protein Dessert Shake powder from Amazon. Sometimes I add a 1/4 C of vanilla greek yogurt or 1/4 C heavy whipping cream. I currently have Banana Nut, Chocolate Coconut, Cinnomon Bun, and Chocolate Fudge. If you have a Wal-Mart close to you they have Protein Shots. I buy the ones that have 42grams and drink half in the morning and half in the evening. I bought a post-op cookbook that has protein shakes and where I had my surgery gave us a little cookbook. If you want I can provide you with some of the recipes. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_fb_0_8?url=search-alias%3Dhpc&field-keywords=bsn+lean+dessert&sprefix=bsn+lean%2Cgrocery%2C230 -

Nessa, I checked on Amazon.com and they carry the shampoo. http://www.amazon.com/Garnier-Fructis-Shampoo-Fall-Fight/dp/B008DUCG7E/ref=sr_1_19?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1350250687&sr=1-19&keywords=garnier+shampoo -
The Other F Word....
tbearfan commented on LinSmargiassi's blog entry in Linda's Blah blah blah blog
Hello, I was on the pre-op diet for 1.5 months. I was good and only ate what they said I could eat and I got rid of 30 lbs. My co-workers wanted to know why I didn't just stay on the pre-op until I lost all the weight that I wanted to. My answer to them was because I wouldn't stay with it. I know me. I love to eat. I'm a chocoholic. I knew that I would only be able to control staying away from sweets for so long. Besides, I'm also an emotional eater and I always gave in to the emotions. I wouldn't stay on protein shakes and chicken broth. Your breakfast sounds like mine except I ate a whole banana. I could make a pan of Hamburger Helper and eat half of it. People had said 'eat to live not live to eat' but I knew that wasn't me. I didn't live to eat. Wrong. The first day of my pre-op diet was horrible. I was in a panic by the end of the day. I kept telling myself that it wasn't worth going thru this. That was the moment that I realized I was living to eat. from then on it was easier. I prayed often for strength. My tastes changed after the surgery and that's ok. I won't tempt myself by trying a pastry or a piece of Hershey candy. It's only been two months since my surgery so I want to wait until I know my willpower is strong. As mentioned above there isn't much room in your sleeve. I was having a very hard time at first getting enough protein down because it wouldn't fit. Then I found the protein shots at Wal-Mart and that solved the problem. As mentioned above it is a mind-set. Once I made up my mind I was ready to have the sleeve...didn't want the others...I was determined. I don't crave anything yet and I hope I don't. I can sit and watch my friends eat turtle cheesecake and not want any. I love being able to do that. I love being able to walk. You will know when you are ready to take the step for surgery. I had to try another stab at Weight Watchers and that lasted maybe two weeks. I knew I was ready for this emotionally and physically. Good luck in your journey. I have found that the people on here are great about answering questions that I have. -

Happy, Thank you for the info on the biotin and black current. had not heard about the side affect of biotin. Is the shampoo/condition at Wal-mart or stores like Kohls? -

Hair Loss After Surgery
tbearfan replied to RoseNP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Rose. I had my surgery 23 July 12. I haven't had hair loss, that I've noticed. However, I was in one of the chat rooms and a lady mentioned that she had hair loss and started taking Biotin. I bought some and take 2000mg a day. I hope this helps. -
