    Sleep Apnea...question

Scared's posts on here have really helped me out. I'm on night #3 of this machine from hades. It's good to know there are others who hate this thing. My hubby has had one for 6 years and could sleep like a baby from day one. I actually thought about cheating and having him wear my machine to show "my" compliance. But I would like to sleep in the hospital and they are going to make me wear the thing. Last night I had a mini tantrum. Woke up after only sleeping an hour and wanted to throw my mask across the room. I've also been diagnosed as an insomniac. Very hard to get to sleep (even with sleep meds it's still 2 hours min) and hard to stay asleep. I only stop breathing in REM but that's not good. The last 2 nights I've had it on while trying to sleep and that takes at least 4 hours right now. Then I'm asleep for an hour or two then up again, doze then take the infernal thing off for the last hour of sleep. I can't wait for surgery and the day my husband gets his new machine (I'm giving him mine). I hope it all gets better very soon or the urge to cheat will get stronger.
  2. I'm self pay as well. My insurance has a writer in it that says they will not cover any type of WLS nor anything related to WLS (ie doctor consults, psych consults that are leading up to WLS) I am looking into an insurance extra called BLIS. For a little less than $1500, they will cover complications Should they arise. Perhaps something to look into.

    Sweet! I'm Diabetic!

So, here's the bright side: this all may be temporary. With our comorbidities, it seems like we are ticking time bombs and I am guilty of getting pretty down about all that. But! Think of our surgeons and staff as the bomb squad. We just have to stay well and keep fighting so they can do the best d@mn diffusing ever!

    Any Oklahoma Sleevers

I'm here in Tulsa. Seems like us Okies have crap insurance that does t allow WLS. No wonder we're one of the fattest states. Anywho, I'm going a little different route than you guys and having Dr. Walton in Edmond do my surgery. My hubby found an old retirement fund he forgot about from another job and we are paying for my surgery that way. He wasn't comfortable with me going down to Mexico and I like having my dr nearby just in case anything were to happen or I should have questions later. I've done all the steps and the only thing holding me up on getting a surgery date is losing a required 15 pounds. I have an appointment on Monday but am only half way there. But I guarantee that the minute I lose the 15th pound, I'll be calling making another appointment!
  5. If I'm travelling with a shake, I may put them in that so they can soak for a while. There are always stragglers but never too many. I personally just hold a little water in my mouth then rip a spoonful in, goes right down. Sounds odd, but I take pills like that too. But as it has been said before, drink lots of water because those little buggers are thirsty!
  6. This is an old thread but I'm currently going through WeightWise with Dr Walton. I'm self pay and have done everything needed EXCEPT lose all of my 15 pounds. I was curious- after this last hurdle, how soon does dr Walton schedule surgery? It's my biggest unknown and it's the unknowns that knaw at me

    Weightwise In Edmond Ok

Did you choose a surgeon? I am currently in pre-op status with Dr Walton. I've been very happy with them so far

    Tall Torso

And that first sentence should be a 'she' not a 'he'.

    Tall Torso

She's saying he has a long body and I'm guessing shorter legs. I'm the same way. My husband is taller than I am standing. But sitting down, my torso is longer so it appears that I am taller. I wish I knew the answer to the OP's question. I've read on here our pouch may be a bit bigger or our stomach may be longer than others. But honestly, I haven't a clue. Not sure if it really affects anything except finding decent fitting tops!! Ha!
  10. Instead of unflavored protein powder in flavored geletain, has anyone tried the opposite?
  11. My 14 year old son is acting out. Long stupid story but it boils down to 'respect your parents and trust they are doing the right thing even if it seems stupid to you'. ANYWHO! My mother (who says she supports me) told me I needed to put off this surgery and quit my job because my son feels he's getting less attention. -blink blink- Well! I've got news for her!
  12. We bought the boy new shoes to replace old worn out ones. He refused to wear the new ones. We threw the old ones away, he got them out. When his dad went to throw them away in a remote dumpster, the boy physically blocked my hubby from getting to the car then he ran off. Even refused to go to school until I called his coach and coach told him he had 15 minutes to get to coach's office or he'd come to the house and physically put the shoes on my son. This is 3 days worth of fun! See, I told you it was stupid. The reasoning for new shoes- the old ones were broken down and he needs the base to support his knees & back. He's 6'2" 210 lbs. at 14. His knee bothers him after hard practices. We honestly know what we're doing here (about the shoes, not the boy). But the mother has decided this all stems from me doing all this stuff to prep for surgery, the surgery itself and times when my job keeps me busy.
  13. I'm finding that a tough one. I'm trying to lose a manditory 15 pounds so my surgery will be scheduled and as a result, drinking most of my meals. Just last night I sat sobbing 'I just want to eat!' Food has always been there for me. But it's such a bad relationship. Drive thrus are my dealers! It's how I numb my feelings. We need to deal with our feelings and learn how to really feel again. A lot like other addicts trying to recover. We can do it. Exercise even if you hate it, punching bag, artwork (I have some of the angriest art around), scream in a pillow. Heck, I have a friend who has a 'stress altar '. She buys dishes in garage sales then when she's furious & needs relief, she heads out to the stress altar to smash some plates.

    Loan For 200 Where

Last year we were short for bills and had an emergency garage sale. Put stuff together overnight then put out signs in the morning. It got us through until payday.

    Headaches

Hate to be Debbie Downer here, but my PCP told me that if it is a migraine to stay away from lortab. It could make it worse. Perhaps call your bariatric doc to get a pain reliever without the 'codone'.
  16. And now here's my whine- get the cheese. My surgeon requires all patients to lose 5% body weight before even a date gets set! I thought 'no biggie! I'll just drink shakes most of the time'. I really didn't realize how dependent I was on food. What do I do when I'm stressed or upset?! I eat. So, I've been back and forth on these first 5 pounds lost. And now I'm starting stressed over the last 10! This is a terrible test. Worst one yet. What's with this dang self sabotage! I've been planning and cooking dinner for my family and then fixing a shake for me. And tonight my boys weren't hungry and hubby was too busy to stop and eat. Screw this! Make dinner I can't eat so no one will eat it?! So my response was eat my bariatric Protein bars because there was nothing sweet in the house. I just feel even more isolated from my family than before. I feel under so much pressure to just lose the weight. If I had a date, my drive would be stronger. It's hard to bust my hump for a hypothetical. Sigh. Just a big whine. Having a pretty good pity party I guess

    Syntrax Nectar

andycharris mentioned the Matrix line by the same people who make the Nectar. I have to agree it is pretty yummy. I ordered sample packs of both the Nectar and Matrix from bariatric pantry(they had them on sale so I went for it) and am working my way through the samples and making a list of the ones I really like, sorta like, etc. So far I tend to like nectar for my fruity and mixed with water drinks. It can be a bit foamy and settles easily. But the taste outweighs the maintenance (frequent shaking). And I like matrix for the sweet ones I mix with almond milk.

    Essure Vs Paraguard

We've discussed the vasectomy option but for our own reasons decided on either the Essure or Paraguard.

    Essure Vs Paraguard

There's very little discussion here on Essure and more on mirena than Paraguard. Just hoping we can get a good discussion going.
  20. I haven't been sleeved yet, but gave been referring to my future pouch. "My pouch will be able to just hold this much" "my pouch won't be able to eat this and that" etc. It is like my stomach (whom I do not like very much right now) will move out and pouch will move in. By having a name for it (even though mine is boring), I feel I'm riding myself of the hatred for my stomach and replacing it with something positive. just another way of making a new start.

    Lentils

I used to have the book "Skinny b***h in the Kitch". When my son went vegetarian for 2 years, it was my go to book. It has a really good cold lentil salad in it. Peppers, fennel, lentils- all sorts of stuff. Wish I had the recipe still but shouldn't be too hard to find.

    Failed Over Night Pulse Ox

Insurance will usually pay. However, check with your surgeon. Since so many of us only need a cpap temporarily, my surgeon has started to rent donated machines out. Also, on a related topic, if you are anxious about your sleep study at all, ask your dr for an anti-anxiety med and not a sleep aid. Better be prepared but chances are you won't need it.

    Disappointed...

But what about your bone structure and are you muscular at all? BMI isn't the final word on everything. A story came out that a lot of Olympic athletes were considered obese by the BMI. That said: Don't dismiss your weight loss! You've done amazing stuff in just a year. Your body may not be done yet. Just keep on keeping on. As my surgeon says, "this is a marathon not a sprint"

    Cpap

My hubby has a CPAP. To me, it's like white noise in the background. When his seals started to wear out, they started to make a high pitch whistle that made me nuts. Or if his mouth should get stuck in the open position, it sounds 'off' and wakes me. But! It's all so much better than snoring!! My favorite thing to wake to is when the cat decides to sleep on the warm snore machine and inadvertently turns it off. Her name is Stash. So I hear: -snort snort- DANGIT STASH! I chuckle every time.

    Chia Seeds

Thank you. I've just been taking a spoonful in the morning with my protein drink then lots of water. Been slow going for these first few days but I'm sure it's just transition. I saw a drink in the store that was a chia infused drink. Also heard you can use something other than water for it to gel like juice. Better flavor, but I'm a texture sensitive gal so downing the dry seeds is good for me.
