You'll do great sunflower! I've been having a little bit of trouble with gas (I think). It's a new feeling for me so I don't know how to describe it. Don't make the mistake I made last night. I slept flat in bed. So this morning I've been playing catch up with my medication. Being flat just let the gas build up too much. Let us know how you're doing.

Please Help - Was Sleeved On Monday The 12Th
dexter replied to dlinnh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved Tuesday as well. I made the mistake of sleeping with only a pillow last night. I've been up since 4. I just can't name my discomfort. It's my stomach but is it gas? Healing? Acid? Nausea? I don't know. I've already used my phenergan cream, protonix and a gasx strip. Oh please tell me again this gets better. I just feel like there is a large gas bubble that my liquids have to fight to get around. I guess misery loves company. Seems lots of us battle a bit when we get home. -
I was sleeved on the 13th and all went great. I just want to pass along a tip from the OR nurse. The day before, when it's the strict liquid diet, drink until you float so that you will still be hydrated the next day for surgery. It helps when they take blood and put in your IV. Drink all the way up to midnight. It works. I have terrible rolling veins but i was hydrated enough 12 hours after my cut off that it only took the nurse one shot at the IV. So, late November sleevers, drink up me hearties yo ho!

After a few rough moments of what I call throwing up air, (Not dry heaving but my little tummy lurching then a huge belch that sounded like a donkey bray coming out) I was able to rest some. I don't come out of anesthesia very well. My first walk was the nurse on one side & my hubby on the other and then me sleeping while moving my feet. By yesterday evening, I had turned a corner and was so much better. Now I'm headed home. There are gasx strips there and I can wait to have one. It's a 2 hour drive home and I had to promise my surgeon we'd stop half way to walk around. Today I feel my little tummy more and can feel where my incisions are (all 6). I've read here that days 2 & 3 are pretty bad pain wise. Makes sense. If we workout hard, the two days after are when muscles are at their sorest. I figure it's the same concept. They were so nice to me at the center but I'm ready to be home with my bed, my kids and my pets (and yes, in that order of importance. Ha!) Guess I'm over in the post sleeved side now! Thank you all who have offered well wishes.

November 19Th- Officially
dexter replied to selbradey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone on this thread asked if there is something we cannot have pre-op. besides incredibly varying diets set by our respective surgeons, the thing I was told was the day before surgery (my clear liquid day) was no reds and no purples. Makes sense. Don't want to really freak the surgeon out once he gets in there. -
Me too! All weekend I had a VERY short fuse and my bus and can attest to that. Today, I've slept in and just hanging out in bed. Hiding from the kitchen. One thing I'm doing is drinking until I float. The pre-op nurse said if I drink tons today, I'll be less dehydrated tomorrow. Which means they can find my veins better for an IV! I'm all for that one. I've had bad luck with IVs in the past so once I get past that, I'm pretty good.

Syntrax Nectar Question!
dexter replied to MsShaunaMarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes they did! I've made 3 orders with 3 different drawing requests. All three times I got my drawing. It also tells me it's a small company (also you can tell its all well hand packed) and they enjoy their jobs. Granted I'm a bit nutty on top of it all so... Yeah. -

I'm with Dr. Walton. I can't wait! The main thing I'm nervous about is getting the laundry done, house cleaned, etc. ha! I'm a tulsan too BTW. -

Syntrax Nectar Question!

I ordered a sample pack from bariatric pantry. They deliver pretty quickly and have good prices. Plus they put up with my 'special shipping instructions' like 'just for fun, draw a cat on the box'. I'm a nut, I know. But the psychologist already cleared me! -
Okay (had to find my paper on it) BLIS bariatric surgical complication protection 15055 sw parkway, suite 170 Portland, OR 97224 503-342-2444 Bliscompany.com The package for leaks, bleeding, infection & perforation is the highest price at $1376.02 (guess that .02 is really important) Stenosis/ stricture is $216.14 Cardiopulmonary, thromboembolic is $546.77 And just as an FYI, I do not work for BLIS or anyone associated with BLIS.

I'm smack in the middle of the country here in Oklahoma. We're one of the fattest states but I'm refusing to be a statistic! -
Surgery In 5 Days Ahhh

I am! I just went to the store to stock up on Jello & Powerade zero for afterwards. Just found out I need to check in at the center at 10:15 on Tuesday. Since I live 2 hours away, it's perfect! I get to take my kids to school that morning before heading out. I'm excited and nervous but oddly at peace. Please keep me informed how you're doing. -
First, you have very disciplined kids! Mine came home with only wrappers. But, that's what happens when teenaged boys go trick or treating. Second, have your kids hide their candy. Step out on the front porch while they hide it so you can't see or hear a general location.

I'm scheduled for the 13th! I'm so excited. I've done my pre-op meeting and paid for the surgery (I'm self pay). I'm finding I'm rather calm at the moment. Just a wonderful sense of peace with all this. I think the next few days will be packing and catching up with the family laundry. No real pre-op diet. I just had to lose 5% of my weight before I got my date. And now I've got to just keep it off (no last big splurge). Well, the day before I'm on clear liquids only (no red or purples). I get my surgery time Friday. I'm so excited I'm just rambling on.

Patient Instructions Night Before Surgery Question ?
dexter replied to Savedbyamazinggrace's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just bought my hibicleanse today. Blue?! Really?! Guess that explains why my surgeon said to only use it from neck to knees and not use it on my hair or face. I don't want to look like a smurf! -
I know this is going to be a problem for me. Just getting my exercise ducks in a row for after surgery (almost a week away but too quick to begin a regimen) and when I get the okay.
-
I've been wrestling with getting BLIS as well, but Aaron is right, it's pretty expensive and we self pay folks (contrary to popular belief) are not made of money. So, it comes down to confidence and piece if mind. IF getting supplemental insurance gives you that extra piece of mind, get it. If you feel confident with how things stand, go without. Like I said, I've got a few more days to decide and haven't really made up my mind yet. But it's good to know there is something like BLIS out there for us to choose from.

Syntrax Nectar Question!
dexter replied to MsShaunaMarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will agree with the OP. to me, the apple flavor tastes more like the apple STEM than the actual apple. I currently have the strawberry, chocolate & cappuccino in rotation at my house. I make it with almond milk and really enjoy them (well, as much as one can truly enjoy a protein shake). -

Thank you! Yep, I've already got two sets of love handles! I just didn't know how to get rid of that higher set! Ha!

You Know You've Been On Liquid Protein Too Long, When:
dexter replied to Strangefruit's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I can't watch certain tv shows. Like Big Bang Theory- They are ALWAYS eating on that show! I'm pretty much limited to crime and murder shows -less casual eating. Tho, I was watching Bones tonight and some characters were eating steak fries. I'm glad my surgery is soon because at this rate of temptation, I'll be down to infomercials and the jewelry shopping channel! Blech! -
Hit My Required Wt. For Surgery But...
dexter posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is yet another hoop to jump through. -sigh- I went to all my appointments, did the dreaded cpap and got the report saying I did, and (i thought) the last hurdle was to just lose my surgeon's mandatory 5% weight. So, when I was all giddy after my weigh in and ready to set my date and even pay for it all right then and there (I'm self pay)- I got told no. The psych has not signed off in it yet. I met with him last Thursday and he made no indication that he wouldn't sign off. Just dragging his feet. I know this isn't a big deal to 99% of the world, but to me it's something I've worked so hard on! My balloon was burst! I left my appointments numb. Today I'm just disheartened. It's not a rejection, but it sure feels like it. -
My nut said to try sashimi next time I go out for sushi. I have yet to try it. But now it will have to wait until I'm post-op.

I just got word today! Mine is scheduled for November 13th! Just a week & 1/2! When they called to schedule, I just started crying. She said the 13th was the only available day and asked if it would be okay. YES! Even if I had tea with the Queen scheduled, I'd cancel it for my surgery!
