Hi. My partner is scheduled for surgery in 4 weeks. I am doing the Optifast diet with him in support. I am also reading up as much as I can about it. With all that others have been through' date=' could anyone please offer suggestions on how I can support him during both pre and post-op?[/quote']Be there after surgery. Encourage pain meds. Encourage walking. Be patient. Don't eat favorite foods in front of him. Remember that after a whole he'll be able to eat almost anything but really small portions. Be patient.

I was so much calmer about the thought of surgery after my seminar. Any questions or fears you have' date=' write them down. I had questions and of course in the moment forgot what I wanted to ask.Otherwise, take it all in and you can make your ultimate decision armed with as much info as possible.
Good luck!![/quote']
What doctor are you considering? Dr Noyan in nj did mine I highly recommend him

On October 28th it will b my one year surgiversary. Started at 255. Now 143 on a good day. Need to tone still. Need to stop stuffing my belly fast till I throw up n I need to stick to Protein like I used to. Acid reflux is still a bigggggg problem. I need to take my Vitamins more regularly!! My hair loss is still significant. I'm thinking of cutting it super short. I swim n go to the gym still 2-3 times a wk' date=' but the saggingness needs to majorly b worked on. Still not dating. I'm not 100% where I want to be at a year out. For some odd reason my cholesterol is high. I didn't even have that problem when was fat. Bottom line after having gone through all this I am reminded today to keep it up, respect the sleeve n focus on each goal step by step. I totally still eat junk food but I definately make healthier choices 89% of the time. Water is huge for me, I drink a lot of it. I also drink too much coffee though. I am very cold sometimes and very tired as well. I think a yr out the body is stilllll adjusting for sure. I'm happier, and I hope to have good news soon again. :0) good luck sleeve buddies!!!![/quote']Great job and thanks for sharing!

But still have always had some type of pain . Last night at about 2AM, I turned over and felt a popping sensation in the spot that has been giving me so much trouble. Didn't hurt, just weird....I am wondering if there was an internal stitch that was tugging and it finally desolved and let go........Well this morning I woke up and VIOLA...NO PAIN!!![/quote']

I had surgery in June and I feel great. I am down 62lbs and I have dropped 10 pant sizes. From a 26-28 to a 18-20. I fit into my Lawman jeans I bought 3 years ago that didn't fit. They were my incentive jeans. Now they are my looking to be to big jeans. Love my sleeve!!!!!I had an accident on 9-6-12' date=' I was hit by a truck pulling into my driveway. It was a horrible accident and I have missed my exercise and playing outside with my kiddos. I am very lucky not to have been injured any worse than I was.
My weight loss has been my goal to pull me through my injuries. This is my possitive.
Good luck on your weight loss to all.[/quote']
Congrats on the weight loss!

Who all uses it? I just got one through work - I work for HCA and they have a thing called H2U that is supposed to help you get healthy (ties in with insurance as well). Since I have a high BMI I was able to get one for free - They cost about 100.00 at Best Buy. If you have a profile and want to add me mine's http://www.fitbit.com/user/23RCRXPlease keep us posted. I am a gadget girl and was checking fitbit out. I'll wait for your review

Hi Everyone' date='I had my Two week checkup today. It was great! I've lost 12 pounds post-op. It was only 2 pounds of muscle that I lost, the rest was all fat. I love getting weighed at the office because they have a machine that breaks it all down. I've been cleared for exercise, so hopefully next month I won't have lost any muscle.
Dr. duperier, the wonderful doc that he is, spent time with me, as always, to answer some questions:
Stretching Your Sleeve: it is possible to stretch your sleeve, but you have to work hard to do that. One or two meals that are too big won't stretch it out. Constantly overpacking it for months will stretch it.
Gaining Weight or 'Cheating': The Sleeve will fail if you drink sugary liquids. He has seen it happen and it saddens him. That is why counseling is such an important part of this equation.
Losing Weight & low carbs: I thought once I was sleeved that I will always have to eat low carb. Not true. Once I'm at goal weight, I can eat freely, within reason, and Protein always first.
No food For 3 Weeks: The reason is because the stomach needs to heal and not strain itself by processing food. So I was wrong. I thought if any food was pureed, I could eat/drink it. Not so. It has to be full liquids with nothing the stomach sees as 'food.'. So my pureed oatmeal, pureed Soups (other than creamy & broth) are no-no's. There is no such stage as 'pureed stage!'.
It was a very interesting visit. They did my leak test in the office and he spent time letting me drink & watching my sleeve fill up. I even got to see what happens when I overfill my sleeve. I am a renegade! I asked him if I could and he said 'sure.'. It was really cool. No wonder it is uncomfortable.
I hope other August sleevers (and everyone else!) are getting good news from
their docs!

I find this idea off-putting and slightly creepy. Why would you want to name your sleeve? It's not new' date=' it's not a special friend or a cute fluffy pet, and it's certainly not a seperate entity. I hate when men name their d^cks and women name their boobs. It's still part of us. It's our stomach, it's just smaller more normal sized now. What we had before was an endless abyss inside of us or a monster that was always hungry. Surgery helped us out and made it so that we don't overeat. It's not cute. I find it embarrassing that I had no willpower before surgery; I hate the fact that my eating habits were so bad that I had to resort to this. I am very thankful that my stomach is now much smaller, but I won't be talking to it or petting it.[/quote']Ok. That's fair. This is just meant to be light and fun. Please forgive me for commenting that while you may not plan on talking to it, it will talk to you.

My first goal was to lose 10% of my body weight. I was 293 the night before surgery. I hit the 29 lb (10%) loss mark during the 1st month after surgery. I am now 6 weeks out and almost at my 2nd goal which is to weight LESS than my boyfriend for the first time in 4 years. I was always SO embarrassed that I weighed more than my boyfriend who at 5'10"/250 lbs is no lightweight. I don't think any woman could ever be comfortable with that. Men are supposed to be bigger. Period. Then in the last couple years I started to realize that I weighed more than many professional football players! That blew my mind and made me feel soooo bad. I love watching the Green Bay Packers' date=' but, several times during every game my heart would sink when they would show player stats. I would think "I weigh more than an NFL linebacker. Ugh." I was never drafted by any NFL team. Sure I have the girth to play, but, I'm only 5'4".My surgery and weight loss has been motivation for my boyfriend to make some changes and he has lost weight too. It's taken me longer to catch him because of that but I don't mind. I've still got plenty to go and I'm happy to see he's ready to change too. It won't be too much longer though and he can resume his place as the biggest living being in our house. The way nature intended it.
I also calculated the average weight of the Green Bay Packer's active roster. Those 53 gentlemen have an average weight of 243.75 lbs. I'm looking forward to getting past that benchmark and down to the weight of the quarterbacks, kickers and wide receivers (190-220 lbs ). Eventually I'll slip below them all and be able to just watch football. Clay Matthews will always have better than me though. Go Packers and Go Me!
[/quote']
I've looked at the stats of pro football players and thought. I weigh more then them. Sleeved on 8/27 and on my way!!!!

Find a new surgeon. There are a lot of people that have hernias repaired while they are in there. Mine did.
