Sleeved On Nov 5 Still Sick Here Is My Story
minigoddess replied to emptyfeelings's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You could mix unflavored or vanilla protein with some juice like tang or crystal light, make it thin so it goes down easier. Also I had good luck with sugar free pudding mixed with unflavored protein powder. Go online, there are a multitude of sites that offer mixes, you're bound to find one or more that are helpful. like Bariatric Choice.com, Diet Direct.com or nausha nutrition to name a few. just type Bariatric foods in the search engine. Good luck, this too will pass. -
Have you tried other brands of protein shakes, check out Bariatric Choice.com, they have drinks, puddings, fruit drinks, soups all with about 15 grams of protein each, at this site you can purchase single servings to "try " them out before you spend the money on a larger size.the ones I've tried are pretty darn good. Also try some Ready to drink shakes-cold. Premier protein at Costco, EAS strawberry or fudge-available at many stores and online. Sometimes the RTD shakes are more acceptable for some people. Unjury makes a shake mix with 21 grams of protein comes in strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, unflavored, and chicken soup. Use the unflavored in regular soups or puddings. Try mixing crystal lite with water and adding some vanilla protein powder. Also check out GNC, you can return products even if opened, if they don't go over so well. Good luck. I am 1 month out and am starting to try small (fingernail size) bits of foods or finely chopped items. Eating on chicken and fish, no beef yet. I put tune, a stalk of celery and a bit of mayo in the food processor and it works very well, blend more for puree, less for later. Check out "The world according to Egg face.com. Lots of ideas and recipes."

7 Days Post Op And I Am Down......
minigoddess replied to Jessica89's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on your success, I am kinda itchy too I agree it's because of healing. 2 week post op visit in two days, so far my home scale indicates 17 lbs since surgery. I was surprised at how hard it can be to get the protein requirements, some days I can only get in 40 grams or so when they are asking me to do a min of 60 grams. But I am up to 32 oz a day in water for the most part. I purchased some fruity drinks(Bariatric Choice) to mix with water, they give an additional 15 grams of protein and that helps get the protein and the water at the same time. Good luck. -

Try making sugar free jello and using extra water so it does not jell, it will be a different taste and may help. -

Only had to do broth the last day in the hospital, then 2 weeks of protein drinks, and such, followed by 2 weeks of pureed food and then real food introduced. -

this too will pass, my first 3 or 4 post op were very difficult and I had some thoughts of "WTF did I do" but it does get better, I promise. Occasionally I long for something yummy, I think this is called head hunger. Have your tried a protien shake yet, if it is too thick just add more water. That may help with the lightheartedness. Hang in there. -
9 days out--no serious taste change --yet. when you purchase stuff for sampling, many of the online bariatric sites offer the purchase of single servings so you do not have to spend on full size. GNC will accept returns --even if opened.

sleepy for about 2 days 3rd day was a bit better, by 9/24 (surgery on 9/18) things were going well, REMEMBER to take SMALL sips and follow the plan, I learn quickly that a sip too large hurts like a ton of bricks. If you start burping or gurgling your probably full.

K mart has a van and choc one that is pretty good, also at CVS theirs are good. Check out Bariatric choice--fusion-Diet Direct- and Nashua nutrition. There are so many products out their and many will sell single packs for you to sample. Also I like muscle milk (best price Walmart) and EAS high protein shakes--especially good if COLD. Good luck, it will all work out. I am 7 days out of surgery and down 10 lbs.

well now, isn't the boss an encouraging person. DO NOT listen to the negitivity. the facts I have uncovered are that the sleeve has a much lower ratio of problems. A must quicker recov time. most likely no dumping syndrome. so on and so on. I like your web name, you just remember that phrase and take care of your self and listen to your doctor, do what he/she tells you, YOUAREWORTHIT! You'll be fine and I and I'm sure the others will all be rooting for you.

unjury is very good, high quality protein, a bit pricey, I also found some protein powders in k mart, not bad. Please check BariatricChoice.com The selection is amazing from shakes to soups and hot coco to fruit drinks and solid foods. average sugar is 1-2 gm and 9-15 protein or better

2 Days Before Surgery
minigoddess replied to seashell's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't be scared. All will be fine. Food is a means of survival, NOT your friend. Just follow your doctors instructions and chin up(or pounds down) -
when using pistachio pudding we called it "green mold"

I checked with nutrition data.com and It looks like this is the breakdown. Protein 29 g, Carbs 10 g (11 g.) Sugars 3g. Sodium 785 mg. (752 mg.) Fat 15 g.--saturated fat 9 g. Fiber 2 g (1 g.) Cholesterol 84 g. The difference is that I used onion powder not onion salt, based on recipe I used 12 oz. cottage cheese-1 % and 15 oz. ricotta part skim. Also sprinkled tops with a wee bit of Parmesan. The numbers in parenthesis are the data using 2 cups of fresh zucchini or yellow summer squash grated-instead of the spinach(my garden runneth over--ha ha ) I hope this was helpful

making popsicles is easy with paper cups and the wooden sticks you can buy in the dolllar store or a craft store. They are sold in large quanties and I've even be able to reuse them(washing up in between of course)

I am finally getting to the big day and I will be 59 later on this month. If 63 (see Steeve Guru) is the new 40 then I must be heading for the new 30(35?) Good luck. I'll watch for your posts.

Hi guys anybody out there whose surgeon is David Wernsing in Philadelphia, PA. contact me

You definnetly need to seek additional opinions. In 2009 I went to a seminar at Bartiatrics Clinic, I was turned down because I had stage 1, encapsulated, ovarian cancerous tumor; no chem or radiation and considered medically cured.. They (the Clinic) would not clear me for at least 5 years (if even then) Disappointment, My Gyn Dr. and the Cancer specialist both thought the clinic turned me down caused it would not look good on their record in the rare event something happen, they encouraged me to keep trying. Unfortunetly in 2011, I contracted a virus(similar to mersa) got put in the hospital for 17 days and then a rehab. facility. Had to postphone the WLS for a bit longer, finally in early 2012 I attended a different seminar(thru Pennsylvania Hospital) There I met and spoke to Dr. David Wernsing, he felt that I could be a good candidate and that the cancer should not be a problem. I was immediatly comfortable with Dr. Wernsing, even before he said he approved. He suggest the Vertical Sleeve due to having had several lower addominal surgeries there may be an issue of scar tissue which could make the situation more difficult. I did some research on the VSS and liked the idea, espically the rare chance of dumping syndrome. I am glad I did not give up. Please take the time to do more research and seek additional opinions, you will glad you did. My sleeve day is Sept. 18. Yours will be soon. Best of luck. (sorry I am not a good speller, where is my spell check)
