    May 2007 Banders

Cindyluhu, I was banded on Tuesday, and my port was placed behind my bellybutton. The nurse told me that the Dr prefers this because as you lose weight it is less noticable than it can be on the side.
  2. Tesma, I was totally struggling with the decision. I even canceled my surgery 2 days before for being a chicken! 2 months later I decided to look into it again. My insurance paid for it, so I felt like "why not". I rescheduled for 5/8/07. On 5/7, I started freaking out again! I had a meltdown, continued to talk to people, read these boards, and decided to go for it! I was banded on the 8th (2days ago). All went well, they say I had a hernia, which the fixed while they were in there. I also thought, why can't I just eat like I did have the surgery, and not do it. That didn't work for me. My will power is very low. I feel fine, a little tender, but I hope this is gonna be my year! Good luck with your decision. Tami

    Days missed due to surgery?

Hi there, well I got banded yesterday. And I was only a little nervous. Things went well. The doctor told me that I had a little hernia, so they fixed that for me as well. I didn't have any idea. Anyway, I am a little sore and tender in the stomach area. I've been taking liquid tylenol for the pain. My biggest problem is gas in the back of my shoulders! OUCH! I've been in so much pain. I couldn't sleep at all last night. I finally resorted to pulling out the heating pad, but that's only temporary. Anyone have any ideas of what I can try next? Tylenol and heating pad aren't really working. Also, can anyone tell me how long I can expect this pain to last? Tami
  4. Spydr, OK, now I am really worried! I am due for surgery tomorrow for the band. I am already freaking out. I did things a little backwards... 2 years ago I lost about 40lbs, and got a TT and lipo of the hips, thighs. Your comment: "You know, at first, the pain was less than the band" worries me. I don't want to hurt that much, I thought it'd be less than that! OUCH! I can't imagine going to work within a few days if the pain is more than a TT.

    Days missed due to surgery?

Thank you so much for your encouragement- I really need it. I was so tempted to say forget it this morning, and eat something. I've been on a fast and am so hungry! I think I was just thinking "if I don't go through with it, then I can go ahead and eat now". But, I stayed strong and passed it up. I poured out the cup of coffee that I had made and left the kitchen. I made a bottle of crystal light instead. I'm trying to hang in there. Tami

    Days missed due to surgery?

ok guys, my surgery is tomorrow AM and I am FREAKING OUT! I couldn't sleep last night at all. Too many things going through my head. Yesterday I was convinded that this was the right thing to do, today I'm not sure. I went to work this morning and everyone is telling me I should just exercise and diet. They say I'm "not that big". I need reassurance. I am 5'0" and 213lbs, I have a BMI of 41.6.

    Days missed due to surgery?

NVgirl, Please let me know how things go. I am right behind you with a 5/8th surgery date. Good luck & Congraqtulations!
  8. Thanks for your information. I have had surgery before. I get VERY nauseated! And VERY sleepy. I just want to sleep for about 24 hours-this takes my mind off the nausea, too. I had a TT about 2 years ago, and my pain was not too bad. I didn't take any pain meds for the first 4 days, until I found out they'd help me sleep. I think I have a high tolerance for pain- had 3 kids naturally with NO drugs! I had a lot of pain when I had my tubes tides about 7 years ago. I was walking doubled over, holding my stomach with my arms- but didn't take any drugs. I do commute about 30-60 minutes, depending on my "wonderful" Southern California traffic.
  9. Hi I'm Tami, I just started getting familiar with this site a few days ago. I've been learninig a lot. I am set for surgery Tuesday morning in LA with Dr Liu. I wanted to find out, what is the average time people are taking off work prior to going back. I'm told sometimes within 3 days you can be back, if there are not any compications. Anyone go back to work that quick, or quicker? I have an office job where I can hide in my room all day, not much running around is needed. I'm both very excited as well as nervous! :nervous Tami Banding 5/8/2007
  10. Hi my name is Tami. I have been thinking about banding for a few years now. I had made up my mind to get it early this year and was scheduled for 3/1/07. My husband's aunt had the procedure done in early Feb. She had horrible results. Her surgeon had nicked her stomach 6 times and didn't catch the mistake. She went home and one week later, nearly died form being so septic. After having the band removed immediately and being on a feeding tube for 2 months, she has finally recovered and decided to just be fat. She, as well as the rest of my husbands family strongly discouraged me from having the surgery. I was convinced in my mind, that my surgery would be ok. Needless to say, 2 days before surgery.....I chickened out and cancelled. I have been having regrets every since. I know researching your DR is key, which I have done, I just still have a little voice in the back of my head saying, "is it worth the potential problems"? Was anyone as chicken as me, and is this normal. I've had elective surgery before and not thought twice about it. :help: Has anyone used this Dr? I welcome any thoughts or comments. Banding at Betencourt

Mya, Don't you think that your height only being 5'6" will be more of a hurdle for you to get over, than your current weight? Most models are a lot taller than you are. Tami

    So CAL Bandsters

ahaizlip, I have been considering lap band and consulted with Dr Liu. How was your experience with him? Any complications? Were you banded in LA or Orange? Tami
