  1. Not saying this is the best thing but if you really really feel the need for it, could you kinda take a swig swish it around and spit it out so that your tummy doesn't feel it? I mean it is a waste to do it that way but at the same time you may realize that you really do not need the soda that much. I have done the above with a few foods and I just didn't like the spitting it out and I decided just to eat what I am able to (the healthy foods) and not the junk that got me into this mess in the first place even though I love my brownies lol I would personally stay strong and stay away from it
  2. It takes time to see the difference. If the scale doesn't move more then likely your losing the inches. I noticed after a while my clothes started fitting differently although I still see the big girl when I look in the mirror I have been with her for over 20 yrs so it is a work in progress to get my head around the fact that I am no longer Her but a more healthier me. One thing to remember is the weight didn't come on over night nor will it go away that way. Just stick to your doctors instructions and you will do fine, just take baby steps.. one day at a time is the best way
  3. YAY!!! It will be here before you know it!
  4. I wish I could drink a half an hour after I eat.. I have to wait at least 45 mins to an hour otherwise my sleeve gets mad at me lol I was also told the no drinking 30 mins before or after.
  5. I would try some Pedialyte pops just to make sure you do not get dehydrated, they were my saving grace.
  6. I drink from a blender cup that has the ounces on the side of the bottle. One thing that I do because I can't stand tiny sips is I will take a big swig then slowly swallow it lol

    Oh! My hair!

Have you tried taking Biotin and are you getting in enough protein? I am still a newbie to this only 6 weeks out but have heard Biotin helps with the hairloss so I take one every day.

6 weeks post op...what do you think?

Are you getting in your Protein and lots of fluids? I try to hit at least 60g of protein and I try for my 64oz of fluids but I can't always hit that mark also I know lots of people talk about calories too I am around 600-700 a day. ( I know everyone's doc and post op instructions are different) Also for the bathroom problem you can use Milk of Magnesia it helps me within a few hours. Just as of the past 2 weeks I have needed to use this 2 times I am going to need to up my Fiber intake or something to help so I do not rely on "MOM".

    Protein drink or shake ideas

I turn mine into a frappuccino type. I use a tsp of caffeine free instant coffee, 8oz of lactose free/ fat free/skim milk, 1 scoop of Vanilla unjury Protein powder and some ice. Blend it up and yummy!! I also use chocolate unjury sometimes instead of vanilla. Or sometimes I just turn it into hot cocoa by warming up milk and a scoop of chocolate unjury protein

6 weeks post op...what do you think?

That is awesome, I think you are doing great! Congrats on the loss! Just remember everyone loses at a different pace, do not compare yourself to anyone else or get disappointed if your loss isn't moving as fast as theirs @ 5 weeks out I was down 25lbs from surgery
  11. I had it bad for quiet a few days after surgery. Make sure your not drinking right before you lay down. It eventually went away for me. My pcp placed me on Nexium though to help with the acid since I was still early on she wanted me on it for a month. Are you taking anything for the reflux?

    Medical Id Tag Or Bracelet?i

Hi All, I was looking into a Medical bracelet and this is what my Dr. had said. A blind nasograstric tube can maybe harm a small pouch in a gastric Bypass, since you have a VSG a NSG tube will pass and maybe stay long enough before it can harm you (you have a 3 line stapling and a prolene suture above the staples, so the tube wont penetrate your sleeve it would stay but wont fit al the tube long). NSAID's can be a NO NO after the surgery, they cause gastric irritation and discomfort, they wont put you in any danger if an emergency would appear, neither the aspirin, you will need to take them for some time to really cause you the trouble, if you have an inflammatory process or some articular pain, a couple of days of ibuprofen wont kill you if you take the measures needed, like taking prilosec before administrating the pill or just taking the pill followed by some ingestion of food. I still think a bracelet noting I had VSG would be a good idea, just not sure the rest is needed. Like the above poster noted, its personal preference. Just thought I'd share

    Light headed :(

Have you been taking in enough fluids? I find that happens to me when I do not drink enough. It had gotten to the point one time I was going to go to the ER but after having some pedialyte and Powerade after a an hour or 2 I was feeling better. If it continues to happen to you I would call your doc or goto the ER just to ensure it is nothing serious. Hope you feel better!
  14. I also had my phone on airplane mode because of high rates. I made calls before crossing the border then everything was email until the hospital (Mi Doctor) we were able to use the phone there.
  15. Have you been taking meds for it? I wish I was able to help, I am only about 5 weeks out and my pcp gave me nexium to take as a preventative measure for my healing tummy but since I have been taking it I haven't had any reflux issues either. I hope you feel better without having to go to bypass
  16. It does get better, I was miserable from the day of surgery and 3 days after most of it was due to the pain medication they had given me I was getting sick from it and then from the tube in my throat, anesthesia and everything I was coughing and miserable. I was not able to get in Water because it felt like it would get "stuck" so I have been drinking Powerade zero or gatorade since. You may want to try pedialyte popsicles they were my saving grace. Tomorrow I will be 5 weeks out and feel a whole bunch better, I still get the moments of what did I do but that happens when a food doesn't agree with me, or I forget to chew enough or drink too much too fast.. but its all a new learning curve. Keep your head up!!!

    Protein shakes... Help!

I use Unjury protein - I love the Chocolate I add milk and warm it up and taste like hot cocoa and also the vanilla is great! I normally put some ice in a blender with a scoop of vanilla ( you could use the choc also), cup of lactose fat free milk and add a teaspoon of instant caffeine free coffee blend it up and yummers!
  18. I am sorry you had to go through this, my prayers to you and your family and I hope you have a speedy recovery! I hope that others as you mentioned that may have scar tissue speak to their surgeons beforehand about it, definitely is a great question to ask.

    Just want some input please

Initially I was using neosporin it seemed like it took forever for them to scab up and heal. Since then, I have been using cocoa-butter with Vitamin E or just vitamin E oil.. not sure if it will work but I hope so. Keep up the great work everyone!

    Period During Sugery

I too had my period on the day of surgery, before they took me in I put a tampon and then after surgery I swapped out for the pad. I guess every doctor is different.. but my oh my it feels like it is back with a vengeance this month lol
  22. I wasn't a revision but the soreness will last for a while. My post-op the first week my doctor just wanted me to concentrate on fluids and not worry about protein. I have only had maybe 2 ounces of water since surgery it is too hard for me to get down so I have been drinking powerade zero. I am now a little over a month out and still can not get in 64oz of fluids but I try and I am now able to get in at least 60gr of protein thanks to the shakes. The fluids will get better as you heal, right now your tummy is swollen so in time you'll be able to drink more. One thing I would suggest is to get some pedialyte popsicle and see if you can get them down to help ensure you do not get dehydrated.

How long did the Nausea last

I requested they stop giving me pain meds and I started feeling better (too bad for me it was the last day in the hospital lol). I haven't taken any since and I am a little over a month out. I hope you feel better!

i think some people go over board

That is true, it is what I have gathered from the boards. If something doesn't agree with one person it doesn't mean it wont agree with the next. Also, everyone heals at different paces and everyone's doctors and post op eating instructions are different. The bottom line though is to listen to your doctor because he knows best for you
