onderland! 10-20 pounds away from goal. in 7.5 months!
theoldmusicbox posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
WOOHOO! it's time to do the happy dance. come on and shake it with me! ( | ) ( \ ) ( | ) ( / ) ( | ) ( \ ) ( | ) what a wild ride this has been. this time last year, i was 5'6" and 373 pounds. i wore a 56" waist jeans and 5-6X shirt. i was sleeved on june 5, 2012 and now, 7.5 months later, sadly, i am sitll only 5'6", but now, i weighed in this morning at 196! i wear a 32" waist jeans and a 1X shirt. and yes that is a grand total of 177 pounds gone! feeling kinda like a rockstar right now. only 10-20 pounds from goal. this is most definately one of the coolest moments ever. life is good, love my sleeve. much love to those of you that i have learned from, such as OTR and PDX and butterthebean, and many many others. you are all my heroes. keep it up all. there really is no limit on what can be done when you work the tools. -
http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/p/favorite-recipes.html http://www.emilybites.com/p/recipe-index.html http://dashingdish.com/ these are my go to resources. many many awesome ideas on here. emilybites has a line called cupcake meals that are perfect portion control and taste great. so far, everything that i have made off of these three sites has been amazingly tasty, healthy, and not really difficult to make. most of the things made here with the exception of foodie, are recipes without any crazy exotic or expensive ingredients. most you either already have, or can easily and relatively cheaply get at your local kroger, walmart, or wherever you grociery shop. good luck in your journey.

tube aftrr surgery
theoldmusicbox replied to sleevemeplano's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
not sure about that one, but there is a tube from drainage in one of your incisions, it comes out the day after surgery, and i will warn you, it feels very weird when they pull it out. but, all is good. i wouldn't worry about it. -
Did you lose weight differently with your sleeve?
theoldmusicbox replied to lucky8mb1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup. When I graduated high school, I was 185 lbs and wore 38" waist pants. Now, I am down to 203, and wear a 32" waist. -

Grocery List Staples
theoldmusicbox replied to KK66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for all stages. Add to Protein shakes, or just mix it with Water or skim milk, or almond milk, and lick the spoon! I love it. -
Grocery List Staples
theoldmusicbox replied to KK66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing I haven't seen listed is PB2 - its powdered peanuts! It also comes in chocolate peanut! If you are a Peanut Butter lover, this is a lifesaver. You can add it to your Protein shakes for a peanut butter flavor. Or, you can mix it with Water or skim milk to make peanut butter. And it only has 45 calories for 2 tbs as opposed to 190-200 in the same amount of peanut butter. -
How do i be thin?
theoldmusicbox replied to woman in me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have this problem. I have a reputation for saying ANYTHING. Mostly because I have known that I'm not what women were looking for, so, I was safe. Man, I'm not safe anymore. I've been getting more attention, and sometimes, it's uncomfortable. But, I think in time, I'll be ok with it. -

Second thought! Please help!
theoldmusicbox replied to sstark1285's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i had the sleeve, my aunt had bypass. i have lost just as much as she did, but in a shorter amount of time. she has that 'sickly' look that comes with bypass weightloss, i just look like a normal person. if i do go ape crap crazy for a day and eat everything in site, i pick myself up, dust myself off, and start over, if she goes ape crap crazy, she gets dumping syndrome for about an hour or more where, in her words, she feels that if she could feel just a little bit better she could go ahead and die. she has a whole regimen of vitamins and supplements that she has to take to avoid malnutrition/malabsorbtion issues, i take a multivitamin, a B12, and a mega vitamin D (the d is only once a week). and, she has told me several times that she wishes that she would have gotten the surgery that i got. hope that helps you good luck -

I really want a chockate peanut butter smoothie
theoldmusicbox replied to LadiWobs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
that's what i do! 4-5 ounces of skim milk, 4-6 ice cubes, 1 heaping scoop of peanut butter chocolate body fortress protein powder, 2 tablespoons of pb2, mix in blender. mmmmmmmmmm (i'm alergic to bananas, or else i'd probably try to sneek a 1/4 banana and only 2-3 oz skim) -
Is losing too fast safe
theoldmusicbox replied to pvp2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
no worries. you have (1) completely violated your insides (2) drastically reduced your calorie intake (3) hopefully become more active and (4) hopefully started eating healthier choices. these all at once drastic changes will cause drastic effects in most people. and anyway, by 6 months, you'll be whining that you're losing too slow. it's all good. as long as you don't feel exhausted all of the time. if you become lethargic, call your surgeon and ask his opinion, otherwise, hang on and enjoy the ride! good luck. -
Has your mind caught up?
theoldmusicbox replied to debbie0406's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
i'm in a size smaller jeans (34in waist) than when i graduated high school (im 38) and i still think i'm a fatty. but, i have days that i honestly freak out when i go into the bathroom and see my reflection, cuz it just don't look like 'me'. we are our own worst critics. even though i still feel like a big fatty, my wife seems happy, so, that's good enough for me -
Yep. Ice is water, water is liquid. It's all good

what is causing this stall?
theoldmusicbox replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We all hit stalls. It doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. Sometimes, your body just has to catch up with what you're doing. Take a deep breath, relax, and stick to the program. -
I suck at dieting
theoldmusicbox replied to jac1970's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i suck at dieting too. lets face it. diet food sucks. but, i promise that there is hope! i have learned that while diet food sucks, healthy food, does not have to suck. this made me very happy. because, like most of us, i LOVE food. i like to cook it, smell it, and eat it. i have found some great resources that have helped me create wonderful menus that my whole family including a 15 year old boy, 12 year old girl, 4 year old girl, and my wife all enjoy much better than the crap we used to eat. try these websites for food ideas. i promise, i am 6 months out, and my family does not feel like we are on a diet, and my non-op wife has lost 75 pounds eating this food! www.emilybites.com www.dashingdish.com http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/ i promise, this is GOOD FOOD. not diet food. but it will help you meet your goals. my favorite part is that most meals are easy to make, inexpensive, and look like a chef made it. good luck on your journey -
1 week sleeved and constipated lol
theoldmusicbox replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
it was almost 2 full weeks before i had my first bm after surgery. my advice. start taking some kind of fiber supplement and a stool softener. my first one, was awful. like, hey honey, i'm on the pot and you may need to get the fire department to bring the jaws of life in here to get me out kind of awful. since then, i take fiber every day, and a softener as needed. it does get better, but, the fiber is a must for me. good luck on your journey -
Recipes plz
theoldmusicbox replied to YBSprefection's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Www.Emilybites.com Www.dashingdish.com Google bariatricfoodie her site is great too. Healthy food doesn't have to suck. I promise. I love food, cooking it and eating it. Now I feel like a chef, and my family loves our new menus. -
also, you have to remember that when reading 'typed' conversations, you can't hear people's 'tone', so, sometimes, people are not trying to be nasty or snide, but since you can't hear them, it sounds bad. or, well, let's be honest, some people are just mean and nasty

Suggestions please...
theoldmusicbox replied to pedsnurse120304's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
typically, i have a giant 1 minute Breakfast cookie (found at www.dashingdish.com) for breakfast. if not that, i use body fortress Protein powder to make a shake. i like the chocolate Peanut Butter flavor, and i'm gonna buy the Cookies and creme today to try. for lunch, i usually have either a cupcake meal (recipes at www.emilybites.com) or some kind of leftovers. for dinner i get recipe ideas from dashingdish, emilybites, and bariatricfoodie. i usually have 1 or 2 Snacks each day. ranging from string cheese, beef Jerky, Protein Bar (pure protein brand) or various other high protein to lower calorie ration snacks. -
Surgery on 1/10...scared and nervous and rethinking my decision
theoldmusicbox replied to roiansmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if you didn't have second thoughts, i'd say that you were a lunatic. this is a major decision and should be treated as such. for me, the pro's outweighed the cons. for as long as i can remember, when i ate, i had NO offswitch. i could honestly sit at a buffet and eat for an entire hour, then go home and have desert. i never felt full. this surgery fixed that problem for me. i now have a much more 'normal' life than i ever had before. i'm 38 and the life i have now, is not hard to live. ya know what's hard? not being able to cut your own toenails. not being able to play with your kids. waking up in the middle of the night thinking 'is that gas or am i finally dying of a heart attack'. i love my sleeve, and i would do it again every day and twice on sunday. good luck. -
