Will I always be cold?
jackpell replied to Iowa_summergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
starting my 3 year and I am cold when it gets to 72 degrees I get cold. I wear an undershirt . top long sleeve shirt and then most times a sweatshirt or light jacket. I live in central Florida thank goodness winter is short here. I can't wait for me to "normalize". I have lost 120 pounds of insulation!! Not really complaining. -
Your all youngins... I am 69 and doing great... Its been almost 5 months. 255 at weigh in and now 170. Sleeved on 1/11/13. Just a little sorness right after surgery. Kinka like I had been doing 100 situps. That lasted about aweek. Just remember to get walking very soon after being sleeved. Also drink... no...sip water all the time... have a glass in hand almost all the time. You will be just fine... Good luck

Favorite UNFLAVORED protein powder?
jackpell replied to asmaclare's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like unjury also.. It dose have a slight taste to the unflavored. I add it to strong flavored foods or drinks and its not so noticable. I use it in veg juice or beef broth. -

January sleevers......what's your weight loss so far?
jackpell replied to pottergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved Jan 11th... down 63 lbs... seem to be slowing down a bit. The most important thing is that I am off all my diabetic meds. I have eliminated 7 pills. Plus no more insulin shots!! -
3 month follow up today..
jackpell replied to soccergirl88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the same day... I am down 63 lbs. I eat 3 meals a day with a snack after dinner. I can only eat 4 to 6 onces at a time. I feel great off amost all my meds. I want to lose as much as I can while I am in the "honeymoon" phase. When I get close to my goal weight I will work on uping my calorie intake. I don't think it will be too hard to start eating high calorie foods like milkshakes....only very small ones...only kidding don't eat unhealthy foods. -
I've fallen off the wagon.
jackpell replied to ashbhey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Please be honest
jackpell replied to butterfly_gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No pain for me.. a little sore... it felt like I had done a hundred situps. That went away after about 4 days. Its best if you start walking as soon after surgery as possible. They will give you a liquid pain killer if you need it but in my case I did not need it. -
Outraged! Age Discrimination in Medicare coverage of the Sleeve!
jackpell replied to scsleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I live in central Florida and I am 69 yo. Medicare just started paying for the sleeve in this area as on Jan 20013. They would have paid for both R n y and the band before but now covers the sleeve. I waited allmost 6 months for Medicare to pay. Well worth the wait. -
I live in central Florida and Medicare paid for mine. Just started this January. I am 69 years old. i was sleeved Jan 11th.

Benefits of Weight Loss.......Funny but true.......
jackpell replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Having more room on the toilet... lots more room back there...... Washing the bottom of my feet in the shower. Actually wanting to get on a scale. Having my shoe laces too long. Who would guess that you can lose fat in your feet!! -
Hi I am 6 weeks out and also having a hard time drinking. It feels like I swallowed a rock. I only take small sips and same results.Warm tea and broth is a lot easer. I was told by a freind that had the sleeve that it gets better with time.

I am almost 6 weeks out. I am still haveing a hard time swalling water. I love water.... but get a lump in my throat and it feels like I swallowed a rock. How long will this last? This makes it hard for me to get in the required amount of water. I sip water all day long. It is uncomfortable even though I sip.
-
I have not tried Gatoraid but I have trouble with protien shakes and most other liquids. I do swallow warm tea and coffee better. Hot broth go's down easy. I was wondering if I may have a stricture. Or will this problem pass with time.

Unjury chicken flavored soup
jackpell replied to Tryingtobringsexyback's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Good stuff.... I micro wave a cup of water and then temp/taste it about the same as warm coffee. Mix it in and enjoy. Taste like very good chicken broth. Great taste change from Shakes. -
Move to Florida.... LOL... just kidding.... I have lost 40 pounds and I feel cooler than when I had that "insulation". I think your body will adjust... just give it some time. By the way I live in Florida and it dose get cold here.

jackpell replied to TheCurvyJones's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All those pills... they all seem to be so big. before I could swallow a handfull. But not now!!! -
my Doc said shots were absorbed the best. My insurance won't pay for the shots. I may try walgreens at thier cost.

Where and who did your surgery?
jackpell replied to danyellhoweth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr Kieth Kim. Celebration hosp. Kissimmee Fl. Not the best bed side manner but very well respected. No complaints except some unexpected extra cost not covered by insurance. I would recomend him! -
Yep... risk vs benifit. We sleevers can have ulcers very easy. Its best to use tylynol. But when your in great pain and nothing will make it better except advil, its then benifit vs risk. But I would check again with my doc again.

Diabetes for more than 5 years
jackpell replied to jsmith100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had the sleeve to help me with diabeties. I was diabetic for 25 years... on metform with glyburide. Two pills in morning and 2 pills at night. I was also on 80 units of insulin at bed time and still was not controlled. I had the operation on Jan11th and I am on 1 metformin a day and insulin 20 units at night. I expect when I lose a few more pounds I will be off the insulin for sure and may not take the metformin-glyburide. I have lost a total of 32 pounds between preop and now 1/26. Best thing I ever did for my health. I hope the best for you. -
Yes I think its normal also. I felt great except for the largest incision (the one they use to extract the cut off stomach) it felt like I had done 100 situps. Just in that one spot. I hurt went I changed from siting to standing. It really hurt when I bent over. And to have a bowel movement was no fun. The good news is that after about a week the pain went away. i belive you just have to ''work it out".

1st Day on Pureed Food
jackpell replied to dollbaby1969's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know what you mean.... my first puree food was baby food, turkey and "gravy". I thought it was Heavenly. I have moved on to puree steak , chicken etc, To make sure I get the required protein I start the day off with a double scoop of protein powder in skim milk. I am now on soft foods..Yea!! but I still get that jolt of protien from shakes early in the day. It also helps get the required amount of water.
