    October 15 sleevers

We are about the same stats. I was 278 day of surgery, sleeved on the 11th and down 37 pounds. Emotionally it hasn't been hard for me, surprisingly. Although I do think that Christmas and the Cookies and Desserts is going to be hard. But I feel so much better physically already it has been so wonderful. Congratulations to you both! WE CAN DO THIS!

WELL...I'VE BEEN TALKED OUT OF IT...

My parents were not thrilled with my decision. They kept their mouth MOSTLY shut on the issue with a few comments like, "But don't you think you could do it on your own?" "Do you really think this is the only way." I had my husband's blessing (with trepidation, but full support) and my kids were on board and that was all that mattered. But really even if my kids hadn't understood I would have gone forward. (I needed my husband because of course it did cost money). Ultimately you are in charge of your life, yes it does affect others, but if you are an adult then your parents are secondary. If you have children/SO then they could have a say, but ultimately this is on you. The day of surgery my parents came to the hospital and with them and my husband we prayed before surgery. I did break down a little and said, "If anything goes wrong, please don't be mad at me. I know I have to do this to get my life back. And the only thing I am afraid of is if something goes wrong and I become a burden to you all." That was my only fear about disappointing them. They all reassured me, we hugged and here I am two months later feeling so much better. All my family is so excited for me. So ultimately your parents will understand, they are fearful (understandably) but they need to realize if you don't get your health back they may lose you sooner rather than later due to complications from obesity. Stand strong, do what YOU need to do to get better! ((hugs))

    coffee with creamer

I think it is fine if it is one cup a day or something like that. And I, too, use my protein powder as my "creamer" now. I LOVE half and half and would never "adulterate" my coffee with any type of milk or fat free "half and half" or whatever and I find that the protein powder gives it enough "creaminess" to substitute for my half and half. But if I wasn't having the protein powder for breakfast I would use a little half and half in my coffee.

    Any Jersey Sleevers?

I had Dr. Noyan at CentraState 10/11/12. He is wonderful, isn't he? Such a kind man! Very happy with my results so far. How about you?
  11. Today was my weigh in day and I lost NOTHING this week. Boo! I know I am getting my period any day now and that always messes me up but it really is a bummer. I only walked once or twice last week so I am sure that contributed to the stall. But with only 600 or so calories a day it is annoying - although I don't feel deprived, but I am just being impatient. On the bright side, I feel so much better and have so much more energy already, so have to remember the positive things!
  12. Once you get to "real" food it gets a bit easier. I find that I have my go-to foods for break lunch and Snacks and then dinner is the variable. It takes a lot of that stress of deciding what to have out.

    October 13Th Sleeved...

I was sleeved 10/11/12 and have lost 33 post op. (This week I lost nothing - boo!)
  14. How is everybody doing? Just curious to see how my other October sleevers are progressing. Any challenges? Any NSVs? What are you eating? I was sleeved 10/11/12 Starting Weight 278 Day of Surgery 273 (Weigh day tomorrow) - as of last week down 33 pounds 245 I am eating 3 meals (2 ounces of protein and a bit of other stuff, one shake per day) and some days one snack, some days two snacks (a cheese stick or an ounce of turkey pepperoni) I am watching my carbs but not really concerned with my fat. Average about 60 grams protein a day and low 600 calories. Carbs are usually in the 20 - 30 gram range. What about you?

What Are You Eating These Days?

I have been able to tolerate pretty much everything except for beef (other than ground beef). I have a shake in the morning, some type of protein rich lunch (cold cuts, seafood salad, egg & cheese omelet) a cheese stick for a snack and then whatever my family is having for dinner (minus the starch). I have had a bit of sweets (sliver of pumpkin cheese cake on thanksgiving, a bite of fried ice cream when we went out to dinner) but that is about it. I am staying away from bread, pasta and rice during the "honeymoon period." I set my goal of 600 to 800 calories but it is usually low to mid 600's each day. I am walking 30 minutes 3 times a week (should be more, but happy that I am doing anything)
  17. Try to go about your life eating this new amendment good for you way and try not to put all you focus on the numbers. It will come off and you have your whole life of good health in front of you.

    ...........calories?

I am starting my 7th week. I set MyFitnessPal for 800 calories but it is usually in the low 600's. I shoot for at least 60 grams of protein and set my carbs for 60 but it is usually in those 20's or 30's. I have been at the low 600 number since I started "real food" at 4 weeks.

Ok Ladies Level With Me Here ... Gas?

For me it wasn't overly loud or smelly (sorry - couldn't think of a nicer way to say it) but there was a lot of flatuence, a bit of burping. I still have a lot of flatuence and the burping is only when I eat. The farting is really annoying!
  21. You are doing great. Are you able to add more foods or are you still on soft or pureed? If you are still on pureed then it will be harder to get all the calories in. When I was on pureed I had 2 shakes a day. Now that I am on anything that I can tolerate I have one shake (or protein coffee/hot chocolate a day). Once you get to "real" food I think you will be able to get your calories in. My NUT told me don't worry about fat at this point, get your protein and your calories in. I eat quite a bit of cheese (some reduced fat, some full fat) and chicken. I am trying to cook for my family and eat the same thing, so it is better for them and I am not making two meals. Today I made our free holiday ham and garlic mashed cauliflower. My family had mashed potatoes and boiled cauliflower. I will have 2 ounces of ham and probably about 1/3 cup cauliflower mashed.

    What Are You Eating Tomorrow?

I am 7 weeks out. I plan on having spinach, my mom's stuffing, a little turkey, red cabbage and a sliver of dessert. Afterall, it is Thanksgiving! Then I will get my sister to go for a walk with me! I am having my shake right now and will have a piece of cheese or cheese stick for a snack.

    Nectar

I made it with milk - 8 oz. It tasted like an orange smoothie to me. I had the sample packet so I am not sure how much it would be from the big container. I think they do say to your taste so if you think it is too thin you could add more.

    Slow But Still Exercising

I was sleeved 10/11/12 and started walking the week after surgery. Slowly, leisurely around the block once. After about 2 weeks I picked up the pace and added a little more to the length. Now 4 weeks out I am starting 2 times around the block at a normal pace (not fast and sometimes stopping for the dog LOL) Today it was raining and I wanted to make sure I got in some exercise so I decided I would walk the stairs. I read an article that at my weight 248 I would burn 10 calories per minute. I said I would do 10 minutes but could only do 5 minutes. Afterwards my heart rate was super high (didn't time it) and was coughing quite a bit. When I had my pulmonology appointment before surgery the doctor said he thought I might have a bit of asthma (which I never had before) but after all the coughing I am wondering. I have basically sat at my computer 10 - 12 hours a day, 6 days per week for the last 4 years and had put on a lot of weight and virtually NO EXERCISE. My heart muscle has suffered greatly but I know it will get better as I continue to do what I can. It is embarrassing to be 46 years old and struggle with climbing the stairs but that will change, just like it was embarrassing to only be able to make it around the block once and now I can do two times. I just wanted to share that although my exercise is a pittance compared to what I could do even 5 years ago (used to do zumba 3 days a week and cardio/weight training the other two days), it is still EXERCISE and it is helping me get healthy. I think the rain has cleared out so I think I will get that walk in today too. And now I am going to do my walk each day and add to that five minutes of climbing stairs. 10/11/12 278 11/7/12 248
