I am an emotional wreck today, I have never been to Cancun and going alone for surgery sounded great months ago when I was preparing for this but now that the time has come I am scared. For those who went to Mexico alone, can you please give me some reassurance? Thank u

If anyone is planning on going to Cancun next year please let me know. Most of the posts are to surgeons in Tijuana but I hardly ever see Cancun. I am hoping to go in January or February I am in Florida so would rather fly closer than all the way to San Diego. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving

Hi, I was originally scheduled in September but changed my mind last minute (regret that, LOL) and wanted to go in December but my work load is too much right now and I would definitely have to get right back to work if I go in December as my work is very strenuous so I can't go in December but will be going in January or Feb for sure!! abetterme, that is great you are going to Dr. Perez also. I am hoping I can schedule it for Jan 11th also. Are you in Florida also?

Do you mind telling me who the surgeon is in Cancun that you found negative review on? I am scheduled to go to Cancun with Dr. Perez and obviously nervous so if there is anything that I need to know, I would appreciate the info. Thanks

I was supposed to have my surgery in Cancun at the end of September, I cancelled the night before because I was very scared. I was going alone which was more reasons why I cancelled, if someone was going with me I probably would be sleeved right now. Long story short, I am contemplating rescheduling for December in Cancun and although I will still be going alone, I will need to push myself through it (as hard as it may be). My comfort zone is my house and going away, I get a lot of anxiety so will need to work on that for sure!! Good luck.

Hi, I also go through Ready 4A Change and Alma is my coordinator and has been exceptional. I plan on going December 14/15th as well to have my surgery in Cancun so keep me posted if you are doing the same

I haven't had the surgery yet but planning on going with Dr. Perez in Cancun, there are 2 others who had their surgery with him that I know of and had great results.

If so, please let me know. Since I cancelled my last surgery due to being scared sh*tless (sorry, LOL) Anyway, if anyone is planning on going to Cancun, please let me know I really need a change (an improvement rather) but mentally has totally hindered this entire process. A friend of mine said she can go with me in March but really don't want to wait that long so am hopeful to be able to go in December. I turn 43 in December so I would like to make my birthday one where I take back my life. I know a lot of people go to Tijuana but since I am in Florida, Cancun is a lot closer. Thanks

Thank you Neese, one thing you mentioned was take the steps the surgeon/insurance companies gives and I do think that is important but for me, I am self pay and going to Mexico for the surgery and there isn't any pre-stuff that prepares and assists with my decision. I wish my insurance covered weight loss surgery so I can stay in the USA. I know this will be the best thing for me although a scary process to go through out of the country but once I get home and recover I know I will be able to live a much more happier & healthier life. Thanks again!!

Thanks for posting this as I am in the undecided position at this time. I want to lose the weight but not enjoying food (even healthy food) and not being able to enjoy social outings. I look forward to everyone's response

I fly out of South Florida on Friday to Cancun and now there is a Tropical Storm that is supposed to turn into a Hurricane. The cone has South Florida in it's projected path to hit on Sunday/Monday. My surgery is on Saturday and I am supposed to leave Cancun to come back to South FLorida on Tuesday. I really don't know what to do this is awful!!!!! The surgeon leaves until the end of September so if it doesn't happen this week, I will have to wait another month and that is just depressing but then again, I can't leave if a hurricane comes here as I may get stuck in Cancun. Can I scream now? lol

My surgery is on Sept 28th w/Dr. Perez, if anyone else is going around this time please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks Tracey, I am glad we are not getting a direct hit and would be lying if I wasn't a little disappointed that I didn't go but I still think I made the right decision. As you said, worrying about home while trying to recover from surgery is not a good thing. I appreciate your encouragement. Not sure if you would be up for it, but I would love to talk on the phone before I do have surgery as I have some questions/concerns and hopefully you can give me some insight or what to expect. Due to Tropical Storm Isaac, I rescheduled my surgery. I was supposed to be in Cancun today, surgery tomorrow but decided it was best to stay here to secure my home in case it came my way since I am in South Florida. Thankfully it is not coming directly to us now although we will be getting wind/rain still. I have to wait another month but I know the weeks are going to fly by. If anyone is going to Cancun at end of September, please let me know

So I decided to postpone it until the end of September. I am disappointed but it seemed like the right thing to do. The last thing I need to do is worry more about my house while I am far away from home. So many mixed emotions but mostly disappointment although my eye is on the prize and that is the surgery so whether it is this week or 4 weeks from now, it will happen. I plan to eat low carb until then, if I can get off a few lbs before, that is even better!! Thanks for your encouragement, I appreciate it

Thank you I am filled with so many emotions right now due to the storm and the surgery. Not the surgery itself but my life after the surgery. I feel as if I am going to be starving (because I'm starving now LOL) and will I ever be able to enjoy food again. I know this may sound stupid as I tell myself, it's even more reason why I need to have the surgery because I am tired of eating for comfort/support/etc... and want to just eat because i have too...to live. So yes, the storm is a huge concern and is the primary one now and agree w/you that I will wait until tomorrow AM to see what the new predictions are and decide from there. I really do not want to wait until the end of September because that is another month that I could be losing weight and gaining my life again. I appreciate your words and suggestions.

Hi Tracey, I will be flying out of Fort Lauderdale...I am so nervous over this. Not sure what the 'right' decision is. I have a friend watching my pets but she definitely cannot put up my shutters, bring everything in, etc.. as she just had surgery a month ago. That is my biggest concern and also, my return flight to Fort Lauderdale is on Tuesday, I wonder if I will be able to fly back that day? I know right now nothing is certain as the storm has a mind of its own. I also worry about returning and not having power and feeling miserable already from the surgery. Ugh, as if I wasn't nervous/stressed enough. I honestly don't know what to do and have to let alma know tomorrow by 11am if I am coming or not. Cancun would be a great place to get 'stuck' wouldn't it ? but I would be too worried about my house and my pets to enjoy anything.

I understand how you feel as I am traveling to Cancun, Mexico this Friday for my surgery on Saturday (25th) and am nervous and also going alone but I would be nervous even if I was having the surgery in my own city. I also used Ready4aChance and alma is my coordinator and is great!!!!! My surgen is Dr. Hector Perez I am in Florida so Tijuana is a little too far to travel when I can go to Cancun which is a short plane ride from Florida. Good luck to you!!!

I am having my surgery done by Dr. Perez in Cancun, Mexico. I chose him because of his credentials and also because I am in Florida and do not want to travel all the way to San Diego to go to Tijuana. Going to Cancun for vacation or surgery? I'm in!!

Hard to believe that next Friday I will be flying to Mexico getting ready for my surgery. I can't seem to think of anything else right now and trying to 'prepare' myself. To those who have already gone to Cancun for surgery, or anywhere in Mexico, what did you bring w/you? I will be traveling alone and want to bring my laptop so I can have some communication although not sure I will even open it but want to have it there in case I feel up to sending emails and checking Facebook and of course, coming here!! I am not much of a 'traveler' and have no idea what the requirements are in reference to bringing lotion, cosmetics (not that my vanity is going to be a huge factor, LOL) but I will check my airline to see what the requirements are. If there is anyone that has any advice or recommendations because you have already experienced traveling to Mexico for surgery I would love to hear them. Thanks again and if ANYONE is going to Cancun next weekend (arriving 24th) please let me know My surgeon is Dr. Perez and I am having it at Victoria Hospital and staying at the beautiful Westin Laguna on the water...On another note, the mental preparations are something else I am trying to put in perspective but I don't think anything is really going to prepare me once this surgery is a thing of the past. I pray that it is a smooth transition and I don't expect it to be perfect but just hope there aren't that many bumps in the road. Thanks for listening
