I just can't wait to be post-op although I am sure it won't be easy at all adjusting to my 'new life' but well worth it in the long run.

I am going to Cancun on August 24th, having surgery on the 25th and am going alone and am so nervous. I thought I would at least be able to contact my friends back home but TMobile doesn't provide international service from Mexico to the US UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am also a little uncomfortable w/the drain they leave in for a day or 2. I am a barrel of nerves I guess you can say, traveling alone to a place I have never been, to have a surgical procedure is not something I am looking forward too but yes, the after...feeling better is going to be well worth it. Super excited and yep....nervous too!! I arrive in Cancun on Friday, August 24th. If there is anyone else going to Cancun, Mexico for surgery please let me know My surgeon is Dr. Hector Perez Trying to get "prepared" for this. I am going alone and I am okay with it. I think the only time it is really going to bother me is right before I go into surgery and when I wake up and no one I know being there but after that, I think I'll be alright I worry about the pain I am going to feel but PRAY it isn't too bad. I can't wait for the transformation to begin. It is going to be great to look in the mirror and see the person I haven't seen in so long Congrats to everyone and it has been a blessing to read everyone's own experiences.

Would love to stay in touch w/you also, it would be good to go through this with someone else.

I was originally planning on going to Tijuana and have the surgery with Dr. Kelly but quickly changed to going to Cancun, Mexico instead. Dr. Hector Perez is my surgeon and I am going through alma w/Ready4AChange. My surgery is scheduled for August 25th. 2 nights at the hospital, 2 nights in a luxury hotel on the ocean..can't beat that!!! My insurance didn't cover it either and was saving up for the lapband which costs $12,000 from the surgeon in Florida, thankfully I did some online research and decided to go to Mexico and am paying $5450 and have a surgeon who has a lot of experience, will be in a hospital and not a surgical center and looking forward to it. I'm even going alone, more afraid of that than anything else and it isn't because it is Mexico, if I was flying to NYC alone it would still make me nervous LOL I am in Florida also so I much prefer to fly just a little over an hour direct to Cancun than a 6 hr flight to San Diego. I'm Melinda, I have recently decided to go forward with the gastric sleeve. I planned to originally do the lap band but then decided that since I am self pay, the follow up visits for fills, etc.. would be additional costs and plus I want the weight loss to be a little faster than the lap band. So here I am. I am currently trying to figure out which doctor to use, etc... Any advice, suggestions I would greatly appreciate. I am 5'8 and weigh 238lbs, and have lived the past 10 years NOT living and need to do something about it and truly have thought of this for many months now and am ready. I guess the most important right now is finding the right doctor. There are so many and I will be traveling to Mexico alone. I was very relieved to find this forum. It is great to be here with so many others who are going through the same thing. Blessings, Melinda

Hi everyone, I was originally planning on going to Tijuana to have Dr. Kelly perform the surgery but since I am in Florida, I would prefer to go a little closer so I am planning on going to Cancun, Mexico and have Dr. Perez do the surgery. Has anyone else used him? My surgery date is August 25th.

The hospital is Victoria Hospital and Alma says I get my own private suite which is nice. I checked out the photos and it looks like a very nice hospital in Cancun.

The last 3 days however, I am on a clear liquid diet

I haven't started the pre-op diet yet since my surgery isn't until the 25th of August but will be doing a 2 week pre-op which consists of protein shake in morning and then afternoon, for dinner I can have a salad w/protein and if needed, another protein shake afterwards. That is strange that Alma didn't give you one. What is your BMI?

Bellybegone, Alma w/Ready4Change is my coordinator and she is very nice!!! I don't remember the hospital name but will find out and the cost was $5450 Anita, that is great!! I am nervous too...it is all I can think about. I worry more about the pain afterwards when I wake up then the actual surgery. Thanks ladies for your well wishes

I am planning to have my surgery with Dr. Kelly and Omar said that I don't need a passport, just my drivers license and birth certificate..is this true? I would HATE to get there and can't get in or out. Has anyone gone into Mexico without a passport?

ATLSara, I am also going to Dr. Kelly, my surgery hasn't been scheduled yet, I wonder if I could do it the same day as you. I am in Florida btw...it would be great to have someone else as a newbie there going through it at the same time.

I'm going alone also. My surgery hasn't been scheduled yet but will probably be end of August or beginning of September. I am ready although I am sure the day of the flight I will be a nervous wreck!!

That's amazing!! So happy to hear such positive outcomes. I keep going back/forth about gastric bypass or sleeve but definitely think my decision to go with the sleeve is the right one. Thanks for the info.

Thank you I am very excited..hopeful and ready!!! Of course I have tons of questions, concerns...especially going alone but this really is about me and about my life and getting back 'out' there in the world. How fast after you arrived did the surgery happen? The next day?
