    Approved!

Omg, so many emotions running thru me right now! I don't have a definite date yet but I'm hoping for a date in sept. Dr's office originally told me that united health care had a 6 month req office visit, I told them not with my plan! They didn't believe me so they submitted just to see. Came back approved with only 1 dr visit. Got all my tests, documents done. Now the nerves start to rattle. I'm seriously afraid of dying on the table. Is this the right decision for a woman with two small children
  2. So I just joined this Forum and I'm loving the informative real to life topics..But can anyone tell me if you've had pre surgery doubts and pre surgery excitement at the same time? Ever since my initial appointment a few weeks ago, I've been thinking about this surgery 24-7 and I don't even have a surgery date or approval from my insurance co!! My BMI is over 40. So, basically , I'm a shoe-in! I'm half way done with my required tests that are needed (bloodwork, sleep study, 5 year weight history). Still waiting on psych eval and ekg to get scheduled. My dilema is, Half of the time I'm scared that something will go wrong during surgery and I will never get to see my kids again and the other half of the time I can't wait to get this over with so I can be healthy and thinner! Its insane this emotional thought process of a roller coaster. I just want this to be done and over with so I can get on with my life. I don't want to be at the hands of an insurance co to decide whether or not they will pay for it. I don't want to be at the hands of a dr that can seriously screw up and F my life up. But I do want to be healthier, more confident and be here longer to spend with my children...I'm all over the place..someone, anyone, please tell me this is normal??

  4. I'm starting to look around for a good cookbook to help me make high protein decisions for when I'm ready. Anyone have any recommendations?

    Sleep Apnea...question

Is sleep apnea only considered a comorbidity if you need a cpap machine? What if you have sleep apnea but not bad enough to need a machine?

    Sleep Apnea...question

Ironic, I'm getting my sleep study done tonight. I'm hoping they find something because that will give me another reason to get the surgery. My husband says I snore like a truck driver so I'm guessing yes
  8. I've seen some of you on only liquids pre op. My nutritionist gave me low cal, low carb high protein diet? Interesting.

Mufasas-mom, Unfortunately, the plan that my company has with UHC does not cover Bariatric services, just the surgery..isn't that strange???

OakCliffMom - I hear you! I feel the same way..I don't want a decision that I make electively ruin my kids lives, however, on the flip side, given the heart disease that runs in my family, I'm not doing anyone any justice if I stay heavy. Its a terrible double edge sword...

Hi! So, I can’t tell you how happy I am to find your post on this topic, because that is exactly what I was trying to find out myself! I live in NJ and I too have UHC (Choice Plus Plan). I went to my initial appt a few weeks ago and was immediately told by the insurance advisor for the dr that UHC required a 5 year weight history, a list of pre surgery tests and BMI over 40 or over 35 with co morbidities. They also said that UHC required 6 monthly visits with the physician prior to surgery!! That kind of stopped me in my tracks! It literally took me about 6 months to get the nerve to even go see a surgeon and now that I made up my mind I have to wait another 6 months??? So I did some digging around and asked a few people that I work with that had bypass (and have the same insurance) if they needed to wait 6 months too. No one did! They did need their 5 year weight history and psych evals, but no one waited 6 months. So, my next step was to call UHC and ask them. I called them 5, seriously 5, different times and got 5 different answers…(pulling my hair out at this point). So, the dr’s office basically said, after I go for all the required tests and provide the 5 year weight history, that they would submit to the insurance for pre approval and see what happens..now, I wait… I feel your pain, trust me..My advice to you is, call the UHC number that “providers” use. It’s a different number then patients use. Ask for care coordination and see what happens. Get a reference # and an operator # each time you speak to them so you can track your calls to them. Good Luck!! Keep me posted!!
