It's a case of if you need these to stop you eating worse foods, then ok. But sugar replacements can be bad for you and can still trigger insulin causing continued problems with obesity. It's your choice at what level have you swapped or just eating them out of habit? Find a compromise that works for you and get some exercise good luck

Really Random Question...guys Beware
Cookeeeeez replied to twoplusone227's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I was going to suggest letting them know if you have a tampon in, just in case there are problems you don't want to get toxic shock if its accidentally left in too long. But also pads aren't great if you're getting a catheter so just check logistics. Blood loss not really an issue but if you're normally very weak I suggest getting an iron boost pre-surgery and look at some liquid or shot options for post op. Other than that, in pretty sure this happens a lot -

Oh, And it's the hard times that test us, not the easy ones! Go back to the psych for a fine tuning of your tools! I've been at it for almost ten years now! Mine always asks "so what did you learn?", if you can learn something from every experience then it will get easier not fixed, never fixed, but easier -

Ok guys! So I've lost 2 kilos, 4.4 pounds. BUT! This is in 6 weeks. I'm a pre-sleever working through my food issues to get sleeved June 2013. I've been struggling this month- extreme hunger at night, fatigue, cravings, pms with out the M! So I see the head of the clinic today, I paid full fee for the pleasure, only to be told that the general doctor who had been treating me had prescribed endep (for my sciatica) in complete contraindication with my regular cymbalta. Not only has it been causing the severe fatigue, but it CAUSES weight GAIN!!! And hunger, and Water retention, dry mouth, emotional lability! So, in order to treat weight-related sciatica, the doctor gave me a pill that causes gain?! And a high dose of it to boot!!! Soooooo angry!!!! I've been going crazy the last few weeks! I thought I just didn't have the willpower! Then I find out its not a question of willpower at all! It's a miracle I didn't GAIN weight, and that would have been very very bad!!! Now I have to gradually come off the stuff so I don't get insomnia and all sorts of other side effects... And I thought the OxyContin had been bad!!! Bloody endep! Bloody doctors!!!! So anyway, here's hoping all you folks on myfitnesspal will notice a marked improvement in my eating again over the next couple of weeks, and my friends and DH notice I'm less cranky!!! To everyone on any medication: please get a second opinion, you never know if even the doctor you trust implicitly (as I did) can miss something big!!! Peace!

Weight Loss Panic!

Oh yes, I found a hot cocoa with Water and lite milk became a psychosomatic sleep-inducer... It became the last thing I had at night as a habit... It seemed to work well -

I had a violent outburst at a set of scales... Just ended up hurting myself and making exercise harder may have to go back into Sydney clinic to deal with this, but that would bite into my surgery funds... Going to the in-laws house for the weekend and hoping being around healthy stable people and loveable thriving nieces and nephews will be a great source of support. They are also very religious (think seminaries and nuns) so hoping to get some support there too... But hey, the trip to ER showed me a lot of people worse off- we are very lucky people! -

There are always going to be bumps in the road... It has been a long journey to this point but still only halfway to destination... All those sayings... Truth is, this is a hard hard thing. It's our cross to bear. I'm turning to my HP in these difficult times, it may help you to find a good source of support too Best of luck,, I know you can do this! -

Exercise! I promise if you wear your sneakers all day and try to get 60 mins in then you will not feel like eating junk! Stock up on things you liked when you were on the wagon, fruit salad, sf treats, deli meats or grilled meats, eggs, fish/tuna... I would say start with the portion size you are at now at regular intervals (so you feel full and don't graze) then as your blood sugar gets under control you can reduce your portion sizes. Get back on vst regularly so you can read inspirational posts and reinforce your own strength by helping others! Good luck!!!!

Oh that sounds great! I'm sure you must get all sorts of side effects, I had blurry vision after my first reflexology! I'll look one up tonight

Really Disappointed With Such Poor Weight Loss-Insight?
Cookeeeeez replied to samomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not joking but I'm ok for now... I think you can look it up, I'll try and find some scholarly info, but I think basically your metabolism is your body turning food into energy. It has active and inactive phases. It basically turns on for the day once you start eating, then turns off so your body can get some sleep. This is why you sleep poorly if you eat too late at night. So basically, your body uses a little energy up at night to keep everything going, but your metabolism, and hence your fat-burning capacity, is best for a 12 hour window after your first meal. This is also why you can mess up your metabolism with starvation diets, it can get confused about when to turn on and off depending on what time you do eat... -
I see a natural therapist for reflexology and massage, but I've been considering acupuncture and chiro as well! Thanks ozeedonkee

Weight Loss Panic!
Cookeeeeez replied to mendymayhem's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Butterthebean gave me great advice on this, something about ghrelin (the hunger hormone) being released late at night to keep you awake... Also if you are fasting during the day you will be hungrier at night... Your metabolism lasts for 12 hours... If you're having your first meal later in the morning then you may still be hungry later into the evening... I think coming on here regularly, especially at night as a distraction, can help keep you motivated Best of luck! -
Soooooooo.... I just got out of a visit to the emergency room, and narrowly avoided being committed... I made the very very bad decision to order a set of scales- they arrived this morning- they said I was 146 kilos!!! That's 4 kilos above starting weight and 20 kilos above my doctors scales... I smashed them into my bathroom mirror... Quite a few nasty lacerations to my face and arms and multiple stitches in my writing hand and feet... Not good with exam coming up I messed up, but had a treat while at hospital and sushi for dinner... Emergency call to psych has allowed me to have the weekend to recover and try again... Otherwise it's back to Sydney for rehab So frustrated and worried about not getting my sleeve done now Anyway, though, if I'm ok the next few months my psych will still recommend pro-sleeve to surgeon... Needed to vent, really sore and sorry for myself

Really Disappointed With Such Poor Weight Loss-Insight?
Cookeeeeez replied to samomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got out of ER after smashing a set of scales into my bathroom mirror... I just found out that a medication I e been on causes weight gain, and although my doctors scales said I was 2 kilos down my brand new, just arrived, digital scales showed me at 4 kilos above my starting weight... 146 kilos!!! My doctors says 126... But! I try so hard, and this medication has been making me starving and so eating more and then eating junk because I feel bad for eating so much... I feel like I'm starting all over again and it's so so so long until my surgery... So, I feel terrible for you! That's a very slow loss weight, I of course think it is a build up of muscle, and definitely a problem with your metabolism- it could definitely be "starvation mode" where your body won't let go of the weight because its scared it won't be getting any more energy... How are your hair and nails? If they are in poor condition this is a big indication of starvation mode. You can good advice on how to fix this on here and from a nut. I highly recommend seeing a but you trust who won't judge you. This is a personal journey and the last thing you need sometimes is someone like your surgeon double-guessing your routine! Try doing some cardio on elliptical or treadmill 5 min fast walking, 1-2 min jogging/running, back to walking... Do this for 30-60 mins and this should definitely burn some fat... Try setting a wake- up time and eat brekky straight away, or after a walk if you want, and don't eat anything 12 hours after this time. Your metabolism starts from the first thing you eat and stops 12 hours later. Triple, and quadruple check any and ALL medications you are on for weight related side effects... Finally, find a natural therapist and try some massage or reflexology. You need to relax, you have absolutely no idea until you try this how much stress you are carrying!!! You cannot truly be healthy if you are all clogged up with rage and anxiety... You WILL be fine, you are a strong and capable person who can do this. You cannot control anything in this world, even your own body, so take a deep breath and with your breath out surrender to this life. You have nothing but time ahead... You will be fine!!! -
Feeling Humiliated....
Cookeeeeez replied to Tia Noel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Been there!!! Especially the folding desk thingy- I could barely take notes... I found the aisle seat was slightly better because I could slide my girth out the aisle side so the person next to me was more comfy... But I almost fell over once in one that didn't have arm rests on the aisles... I just kept sliding out towards the aisle!!! Then I started coming in last and sitting on the side aisle steps! This was much better because I could rest against the wall too!!! But ask the lecturer first so they don't bring it up in front of everyone!!! This will work much better as it seems like your just being polite not squeezing past everyone during the lecture... Best of luck and log this in for a non-scale victory after your sleeve!!! -

My mum got something like this to help her remember her insulin injections... Maybe it would be helpful for Water? Just to reset your routine? http://www.bindependent.com/product/gcm106/epill-Multi-Alarm-Pocket-XL-Timer/ -
I hav definitely noticed an improvement with weightloss!!! I was on 30mg of OxyContin a day, and still had a pain level of four or five every night!!! Now I have pandadeine forte if its very bad... But mine was funny, the bulge wasn't very pronounced, even though it hurt so so much! So I found doing sit-ups with my swisse ball really helped too! It hurt a lot but strengthened those muscles that support the spine... I had injections in my scalp for my hair-loss... They really hurt (especially once I was off the oxy lol) but definitely helped... I know it's very scary, I would get a couple of second opinions about the spine thingy, but I've heard it works... So good luck whatever route, I hope your health improves greatly!!!

I'm staying on the cymbalta he added the endep on top of the cymbalta!!!! (The new guy said if the cymbalta wasn't working for nerve pain the endep probably wouldn't have either!) I'm on the cymbalta for depression and gained a lot from seroquel (which at least I was warned about!) went off it, lost a lot in first two weeks of trying new regime, and then started the endep and started struggling from then on Yup, I'm even thinking of trying non-hormonal contraception to see if it helps, but have read a lot of women giving birth to baby's and iuds lol!
