Starting in Dr. T's office Tuesday! So if anyone stops in, be sure to say hello!
-
Would there be an interest in an additional SECRET group? I'd be happy to start one and honor requests received here.
-
Oh I wish I could make this, my surgery is 7/15 and my daughter's birthday party is on the 12th. I hope to join afterwards, didn't know there was a local group meet up I know closed groups on FB are not accessible to others but I thought you could still see who's in the group (or maybe I'm wrong?). Yes, people can see who is in the group, but ca't read the posts. I've thought of changing the status to SECRET for this reason. I'll join if it's secret lol...too many FB friend/acquaintances that I don't feel like sharing with yet...I'm still pre-op. Maybe at some point I'll be more open about it but not yet. Well, I thought about it and I even changed the group to SECRET momentarily. Then I realized that the business cards I had printed have a link to the group for those who would like to join. A secret group wouldn't be accessible to anyone not sent an invitation, and I wanted people to be able to find us.

Looking for a drink that tastes like Fresca
BrickHouse replied to I will what I want's topic in Food and Nutrition
Ive used SodaStream diet grapefruit flavor mixed with water and ice. Not quite Fresca, but good! -
When I had my surgery back in December, I'd just applied for an admin job in my bariatric surgeon's office at St. Peter's. The timing wasn't good and they had already made an offer to someone else. I had my six month checkup this week and that "someone else" has moved on... guess who got an on-the-spot interview? I received a phone call a couple hours later and should be getting my formal offer on Monday! I'm so excited to be working so closely with bariatric professionals! It can only help my quest to pay it forward and help others as I've been helped!

Just a reminder that our local chapter will be meeting on July 12 at the East Greenbush Library! Please help spread the word! We will start at 10:15 am with a meet and greet and talk about where we are in our weight loss adventure. Our meetings will include clothing swaps, guest speakers, grocery store outings and MUCH MORE!!! Join us at tiny.cc/bariatricpalgroup on FB! Our group is a closed group, meaning it's private and can be seen only by group members, since many people have not shared their WLS status publicly.

CVS has their own sublingual B12s. I get them when they have their bogo 50% sales. As for multi, I take 2 kids chewables a day.

I had a long journey, too - see my signature - and Dr. T was by my side the whole time. He's a good doctor and a really nice guy. I like Syntrax, but it's expensive. I've used Body Fortress chocolate and vanilla from Walmart - $15.88 for 2 lbs. I've also used Fit Frappe that I get at Netrition.com. They are located in Albany, so I go pick my order up instead of having it shipped. They have lots of bariatric-friendly things. It's not a store, though. Just a warehouse. I agree, getting all the hydration is tough. Even post-op. I used to drink about 100 oz of water a day and now, post-op, I don't like it as much unless I flavor it.

oh my lord, two years of Dr. Lemanski? You poor thing! In order to prepare, my advice is to read everything you can get your hands on. I learned a TON from the forums here on this site from people who were walking the walk. People say not ti invest a lot of time in trying different protein shakes before surgery because your tastes change... I didn't experience that. I liked the sames ones before surgery as I do now. Start drinking water. Add some calorie-free flavor (Crystal Lite, Mio, etc.) if you need to, but get yourself hydrated.

That link doesn't work for me... Now I'm getting a little worried about starting a new job 2 weeks later...but I don't want to delay my surgery. I guess I'll see how I feel afterwards...so much change all at once :-\ Sorry the link doesn't work. I think it's because it's a closed group. If you (or anyone here) wants in, look for the FB group called BariatricPal Rensselaer/Albany. (ETA: I changed the settings to the group - the link now works.) So long as you can take it easy, physically, you may be okay after two weeks. But you will still not be able to lift, push, pull, etc. You're gonna want to be able to get up and walk periodically, too.

I think you can be pretty certain that your date won't change. And I think most of us experience the "food funeral" mindset! Just be conscious of it and know that you're changing your habits. As far as making things easier after, you're doing lots of those things already. Having some help right after is important. Walking is the best thing for now and for immediately after. It will keep things moving, so to speak, and also help with post-op gas. Not gastrointestinal gas, but the gas they inflate your abdomen with. Drinking more water is great as well as eating more healthy foods in advance. If you don't have a blender or bullet-type processor yet, they are super-helpful for the puree stage. I just got a NutriBullet and I love it. I'm 5 months out. Welcome!

MEETING NEWS! I have enrolled to become a certified support group leader in August! Our first meeting is tentatively scheduled for: Saturday, July 12 10:15-11:15 am East Greenbush Community Library Meeting Room A I have created a Facebook group for participants and that will be where the majority of planning, discussing, etc. will take place. As things move along, I expect the FB group to grow and attract more people. I will share the link as soon as I have more information. I will have more information, as well as a flyer, in the very near future!

My dietician said that the large Calcium citrate pills wouldn't digest anyway (I had RNY) so the chewable calcium carbonate and elemental calcium (like Viactiv) were better than nothing. I use a sublingual B12 that dissolves. My Vit D is in my chewable calcium. My daily vitamins are: 2 chewable kids CVS multi; 2 calcium and D chews; 1 sublingual B12. I get everything at CVS when they have their BOGO sale. WHERE THE HECK IS KYLE?

It's not common, but it's not rare, either. It's an easy fix. It was awful while it was happening. It felt like my food wouldn't move past the bottom of my throat. I took a small sip of Water and it came right back up. Then I proceeded to throw up for about an hour. I felt like I threw up a whole lot more than I ate. Steak was the culprit. I'm 4 1/2 months out, but some people can't tolerate steak even after a year, if ever. It's weird that beef Jerky (home made) doesn't bother me. Now I'm back on a Stage 1 diet for the next week at least. :-( Glad I love yogurt! I was thinking of Tuesday evening for the group, but that's not carved in stone. Since weekends are the only time I can catch up on home and family stuff, weekends might be tough. That's not to say there couldn't be a Saturday meeting and a Tuesday meeting. You know, one month on Tuesday and one month on Saturday... It's still in the early stages of planning, but suggestions like these help a lot!

I spent Monday night in the hospital after being sent to the ER with severe pain and vomiting at dinner. I got scared and called Dr. Trivedi and he sent me to the ER. They admitted me and then scoped me yesterday and dilated a stricture. I'm still pretty sore, but happy to be home. I've been asked to lead a local support group by BariatricPal! So stay tuned for the time/location and more information!

I agree - between my coverage with CDPHP and the care I received at St. Peters, my WLS was a very positive experience!
