Anyone Sleeved By Dr. Jorge Acosta Or Dr. Michael Lara (El Paso)
beckykabq replied to AdeptDreamer's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr. Acosta did have me go on a 2 week pre-op liquid Protein shake diet. Since my surgery date was moved up it was actually only one week. But I did lose 5 pounds. I think the pre-op depends on each patients needs. My co-worker didn't have an pre-op diet restrictions. I think it helped prepare for the post-op liquid diet. I personally like the shakes and have at least one a day. -

The nursing staff was absolutely the best I have ever had. I had some other issues since I have other health issues so my stay was longer. I was apprehensive about the surgery because of those issues but I couldn't be happier with the outcome and how the staff and Dr. Acosta handled the issues when they did arise. Follow up has been terrific too. -

Had my surgery 3 weeks ago. Dr. Acosta is wonderful. I couldn't have been more please with both Dr. Acosta and the hospital staff at Del Sol. -
I am a Certified Pedorist and have had many patients with Plantar Fascitis. The suggestions for execise are excellent. Wearing good shoes is very important. Athletic shoes should be changed about every 600-800 miles. Buy the best shoes you can afford. The rocker bottom shoe sold by MBT, Skechers and other companies are probably the most effective for plantar fascitis. I know there is controversy over the claims for the toning and fitness, but the shoe design is very effective in stretching the muscles in the calf. I myself have used rocker bottom shoes for years without a reoccurance to PF. When not wearing the rocker bottom shoe, wearing a good quality orthotic is very helpful. It doesn't need to be an expensive custom made one, but a good supportive one that you can often find at sporting good stores. 85% of people do not need the custom orthotic and do just fine with OTC ones.

I use Amex too. I just pick up Visa or Mastercard Gift cards to use for online shopping that doesn't accept Amex. -
I have submitted my paperwork so just waiting for the insurance approval and surgery date. I am hoping to have surgery by Mid August. We are planning on a week long vacation in October so I want to be past the liquid and pureed food stage of the new diet. The vacation is to see the leaves changing in New England...not eating my way through New England! So I am not worried about adjusting to the new diet. I am having my surgery in El Paso with Dr. Jorge Acosta. I have been trying to stay under 1100 calories and eating at least 85 gms Protein. Worried that even with these restrictions I am not losing weight. Everyone assures me that I will lose after the surgery. My goal is 100 lbs. Exercise is a challenge for me since I have Myasthenia Gravis. It is a form of Muscular dystrophy that causes weakness the more I use my muscles. Prior to the disease I walked 3.5 - 5 miles per day. So I know the importance on exercise just not able to do it any more. Hoping I can still reach my goals without the exercise.
