Losing 85% of your stomach 4ever

I felt the same way 7 or 8 years ago when I first contemplated weight loss surgery. I wasn't willing to do RNY, then something "better" came along.. Lap Band, and I wasn't willing to deal with the fills etc. When I read about the sleeve, I was hooked, and FINALLY stopped waiting for the next best thing. I chose to start living better NOW. Gemini is right.. as technology improves, so will the options. You can only make the best decision for you, it is a personal choice. Trust your research, ask questions and move forward when you are sure. Best of luck!!
  3. Good for you for fighting!! Congratulations on getting your date!

    when to exercise?

I went to see my surgeron and NUT at 2 weeks out (last Wed) and both said ok to me starting to use my recumbent bike at home, and walking. No weights yet. I have to wait til the end of this month when I go back to get the official okey dokey. Good luck!

Definitely bring this up with your surgeon, I had instructions not to take a bath or be submerged in Water until she cleared me. Good luck!!

    Surgery #2 in 3mos!

I feel your pain.. or at least I did. I went in for my gallbladder & sleeve surgery on Nov. 6, and due to a rise in my heart rate, they only did the Gallbladder. I was sleeved December 11, just over a month later. The two surgical recoveries were very, very similar. Good luck!!!

    EXHAUSTED- 3 months out

I'm sure you have been checked but are you taking a Vitamin D supplement? I know when I started taking it my energy levels definitely increased. And that was before surgery. Best of luck to you!

    Question about smoothies ans soups...

Generally smoothies are laden with sugar and are very high calorie. My NUT drills into us to not drink our calories.

6 days post op and i feel sooooo hungry! help

Did your doctor prescribe Prilosec (or generic) for after surgery? There are several posts on this forum describing how stomach acid can mimic hunger pains. My surgeon put me on Prilosec for a month after surgery.

    I can't stand PROTEIN!

Have you tried unjury chicken Soup? This broke up just having shakes my first few weeks for me. Also, try freezing your shake to change the consistency to ice cream like. I also found that heating the milk and having my chocolate shake as hot cocoa was much easier to consume. Good luck, you can do it!!

    SUTURE REMOVAL

I didn't have any external sutures either, I had steri-strips that stayed on for about 10 days (some less). Immediately after surgery there was gauze & clear tergaderm(sp) over the steri-strips and those stayed on for 3 days.
  14. Check out the nutritional value, it is only 1gm of protein.
  15. Welcome and Congratulations on your great start!!

    Sleeved 12/31 !

The majority of my soreness was gone around day 5. Except for getting in and out of bed, that took about a week and a half. Walking definitely helped.

    Just asking

WOW!! Amazing start for you! Congratulations!!
  20. I agree, I lost a big chuck before my actual surgery. I felt if I was making this big a change, I better get on board fast. So in June, 2012 when I made the decision to move forward I started weight watchers, then modified it to be high Protein, low carb/low fat. And set out to find a Protein Drink I loved. I've had no problems at all since surgery (other than a day or so of gas) and I think I really got a handle on emotional eating and head hunger. I just make sure I have items handy that I can have and enjoy.

    Dating and eating

If you're up to eating soft foods, go with shrimp or scallops, broiled/no butter. Or it without potato/pasta and just ask for steamed veggies. Less to explain why you're not eating certain things.
