Pre-Surgery Diet Shake Substitutions?
JerseyGirl68 replied to krystalt313's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pure Protein powder (found on amazon and at Walmart) was my go to, I loved the chocolate Frosty. 35gr of Protein too! Good luck! -
Do you regret?
JerseyGirl68 replied to LonghornNiner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is understandable to be nervous about progressing your diet, and also normal to some to not feel hungry. But don't let fear of what "might" happen to sabotage you. We need to progress our diets, our bodies have to adapt, we'll get better nutrition and overall better health. You can do it, you have to do it. You dont' want to stay on the pureed too long, it will be harder getting off them. Just go slow and be aware that some foods might not sit as well as others. Eat slowly, chew your food really well. Work the steps your NUT laid out, you'll succeed! -
Feeling disapponted
JerseyGirl68 replied to mrsmsp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just under 3 pounds a week, not too bad if you ask me! Just about 10% of your body weight. You are doing fine. I agree with the above posters, everyone is different and loses at different rates. There are tons of threads, one particular one comes to mind that was created by a very successful Vet, who also considered herself a slow loser, look some up - you are not alone in your thinking. Try not to compare your numbers with others, they are very subjective and could really mess with your mind. Ask yourself if you are doing everything you need to be doing . If the answer is yes, your are golden. If not, commit to getting in your Water and exercising more, it may be just what you need. You are doing well, keep at it! -
Do you regret?
JerseyGirl68 replied to LonghornNiner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry you are struggling. Unless it is making you sick to drink or eat, you have to. Even if you are not hungry, get on a schedule and try to get the most protein in the smallest portions if need be. Drink all day long, find something you enjoy or at least can tolerate and keep at it, hopefully a few solid days can get your energy up. Dehydration is not something you want to battle, and it sounds like you have some of the symptoms. I'm 4 months out and dont' feel hungry, I eat to live not live to eat now, I hope that lasts! Please try to get your nourishment in. Keep us posted. -
I stocked up on 4oz containers too. I helped portion everything for taking to the office. I am lucky we have a refrigerator so I can keep items handy. Fat Free Yogurt is a great item to have at the office. Cheese sticks, I kept a container of Unjury Chicken soup and other soups in case I needed them. When I went back to the office, I was on one shake a day, I had that one in the morning and I blended it at home and put it in a travel cup. When I got to pureed foods, my favorite was chicken salad with a little cranberry sauce on top, great flavor.

Congratulations Chas! Glad it went well.

I was having trouble with plain water, I added Vitamin water Zero into my day and it was much easier for me to get in my 64oz and then some. Warm liquids (herbal tea or decaf) went down easier in the beginning also. The further out you get from surgery the easier it will be to get in your protein and water. You are still healing and doing well! I would add some PB2 (peanut butter powder) to my shake mix to get in more protein. You definitely want to get in as much of both as possible, at this stage more planning is required to try to meet your goals every day. Once more dense proteins are introduced it should get easier with the protein. Do you have followups with the Nutritionist? Getting in at least 64oz of water is hard, but so necessary. I've read posts from folks who got dehydrated, it did not sound like anything I wanted to happen. You got this!

Congratulations on your surgery and success so far. How much Protein do your shakes have? I know you already realize that the yogurt is pretty high in calories, I was told non-fat greek was best. Less than 100 cal and 12 gr protein. I had to experiment with different brands until I found one I liked (Oikos black cherry for me) Otherwise you sound like you're doing fine. I was on about 800 calories at that stage, but my NUT bumped it up to 1000. You are still taking in few enough for weight loss so stick to what your NUT told you to do and you should be fine. You're doing great! Good luck !

I feel real hunger!
JerseyGirl68 replied to kari61's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Kari, Are you taking a PPI like Prilosec? Often gas/acid can mimic hunger pains and growling. If you are, you may need to try a different one or increase your dose. I've read many posts from people who describe the same type of issue and this helped. Of course, check with your NUT/doctor about changing any meds first. Good luck! -
Stopped Losing Weight!
JerseyGirl68 replied to nck12nicholspd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you having trouble with other protein sources? My NUT wanted me off shakes once I was cleared for all foods. -
I didn't tolerate milk well after surgery,I was never a big milk drinker, so adding it to my diet effected me. My other allergies have actually gotten much better. I have taken sinus medication since November ( I used to take it almost every day). My NUT thinks I probably have a gluten sensitivity and by changing how I eat, I've cleared up my sinus'. Go figure.

In need of some positive reinforcement

You know what you have to do. You are doing so well, you don't want to start up with bad habits or open the floodgates to other slider foods and justifications. Toss the eggs, get them out of your reach and start fresh tomorrow. You got this! Good luck ! -

How's the PAIN?
JerseyGirl68 replied to VivaDiva01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had very little discomfort. No actual pain, thankfully. It felt like I did a ton of situps, and I was a little tender. I found the Tylenol worked better for me than anything else, a heating pad helped also. Some gas, but honestly, immediately after surgery the gas is within your body, so the meds don't do too much. Walking was the best for this, the more you walk, the better you will feel. I think it is important to hear all the experiences it give you a full picture of what could happen. -
Welcome and congratulations on starting the journey to a whole new you! I could not be happier with my decision! Good luck!

Am I crazy? Well, yes, but about THIS?
JerseyGirl68 replied to BlessedBeyondMeasure2012's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
It really does sound like you are doing fine. My nut had me move up to 800-1000 calories a day when I was a few weeks out. It is not unusual for your body to take a few days to adjust to adding different foods, give it time. Your Water intake is fantastic! you are doing such a great job, keep it up! Once you move on to more dense Proteins they will probably have you adjust that schedule. Congratulations on such a great start!! -
VERY DRY SKIN!

Help.. Good soft foods to eat?
JerseyGirl68 replied to kooks3003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check out theworldaccordingtoeggface.com and emilybites.com Lots of sleeve friendly recipes for all stages. the ricotta bake is fantastic. At that stage I was at 3oz. a meal. At 6 weeks I was able to comfortably take in 4oz at a time. 4oz. still works great for me at 4 months out. Good luck!! -
eating too much? starting to get obsessive...
JerseyGirl68 replied to allybenavides's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the other posters, you don't seem to be doing anything you're not supposed to be. I'm also 4 months out and I can ingest about 4 oz. at a time. You are doing great!! You will drive yourself nuts if you weigh all the time. Congratulations! -

Newbie with questions about hunger...
JerseyGirl68 replied to Teachamy's topic in Food and Nutrition
Hi Amy! I'm four months out tomorrow and can honestly say that I've not been hungry. I follow the plan my NUT laid out, eat every 3-4 hours. Get in over 80 grams of Protein and more than 64oz. of Water. I still measure and portion out my meals for the most part. 4oz. is my norm and it satisfies me. I think one time I didn't measure, I guesstimated and I was uncomfortably full. And it takes time to go away. Certain smells will trigger a response, but that's a head issue for me. I can't go to my moms and smell her lasagna without wanting it. I've read (and experienced) that being dehydrated can also mimic hunger. Water has never been an issue for me, thankfully. Being aware of what your triggers are will help in getting past the head hunger also. Once you are off sugar, carbs, caffeine it will be easier too. Best of luck!!
