No weight loss - 8 days post op
JerseyGirl68 replied to runnergirlsmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I came home from the hospital 10 lbs heavier than when I went in.. YIKES!!! It took a week, but it and more began coming off. Try to get more Fluid in, water will help flush your system. It will happen. How are you feeling otherwise? -
Love it! Congrats to you!!

Every mile I see posted is such a great motivation. No matter the totals, every mile is one mile better than sitting on the couch. LOVE these challenges. I really do not like exercise, I always found it boring and had to force myself. I was motivated to buy a bike last month after the September 100 mile challenge started and my bike arrived mid way through. I never believed it would be something I would enjoy so much. I look forward to it, and am counting the days to daylight savings time so it stays lighter a bit longer for me to get my rides in after work. You are ALL a huge inspiration!! I added 7.2 miles last night for a total of 121.76.

3 years ago today I had the VSG...
JerseyGirl68 replied to M2G's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you so much. It really does help those of us not as far out to put things in perspective from time to time. No matter how we get there, this is really a life long process. We all refer to this as a journey and it is, a journey to a new way of life. Thanks again!! -
Returning to work 1 week after surgery?
JerseyGirl68 replied to sleevette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back after 5 days, but my job is not at all physically demanding. After being sleeved you can't lift more than 10lbs. for about 6 weeks. You definitely don't want to risk your health. Any chance you can talk to your manager and without giving all your details, let them know that you are having a procedure that will require you to be on light duty. There are tons of procedures that could fit the bill here, not just bariatric surgery. You can protect your privacy and your health. -
I made it for my family and they loved it.

Peppermint or Wintergreen?
JerseyGirl68 replied to mountaingirlCO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Peppermint tea has always been my go-to for a rumbling tummy. And I had lots of it after getting sleeved. It relaxed my stomach, I got fluids in and the warm liquids always felt good. -
Very cool indeed! I wish I had the space to plant my own veggies. Good for you, you should be proud.

The one thing I can't wait to wear...
JerseyGirl68 replied to De-jo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Knee high boots was the thing I wanted to wear. I always had large calves so I couldn't find any that fit right. I am now the proud owner of 2 pair and love them!! I didn't even have to wait until goal . :-) -
Waiting is driving me crazy!

A 24 hour turn around is really wishful thinking, but hey.. it happens. I also have HBCBS NJ. My approval took about a week. You can log into your Horizon account and see if they posted your approval or denial, if they won't give it over the phone. My surgeon's office found out first and called me right away, I got my letter a few days later. Stay positive. -
Awesome! Congratulations!!!

Good luck Roo!!

Good luck all you losers! Have smooth surgeries and an even smoother recovery.

A fit bit is a brand of pedometer. The Fitbit will sync with MyFitnessPal on your computer and smartphone. Makes tracking steps/calories burned very easy. I've had mine since January and love it.

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield NJ Experiences?
JerseyGirl68 replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in Insurance & Financing
My surgeon is in the same practice with Dr. Bagloo, and I have heard nothing but good things about her. My surgeon was Dr. Schrope. I was completely impressed with Valley. The care was fantastic. The surgical waiting room was comfortable with individual televisions and I could have someone there waiting with me until they brought me in. They were very attentive, and kept bringing me warm blakents. Internet connection was spotty in that waiting area. But other areas it was fine. Unless this has changed, all surgical patients had a private room, which was nice. I did not have to ask for a single thing while I was there. The day I had my surgery there were quite a few of us recovering from sleeve surgery. The floor itself was quiet and I got plenty of rest. They don't wake you in the middle of the night like some hospitals, unless you have special or unusual needs, they will round before you go to sleep. I highly recommend the practice and the hospital to anyone that asks. The followup I have had is great. Everyone there is very helpful. My nutritionist is Meredith Urban. Another rave review from me about her. When is your surgery?? -

I had to submit a letter stating why I wanted the surgery and detailing my past weight loss efforts. It included a "weight" history from my primary doc. They really just wanted to see that this was a long term problem I guess. There was testing required: EKG, Endoscopy, bloodwork. But nothing too out of the ordinary. -

Hi There, I also have HBCBS NJ. I was sleeved last December. Last summer they required a 6 month supervised diet, but right when I started my process, they did away with that requirement. They submitted on a Thursday and I believe it was just a week until I found out I was approved for surgery. Very smooth process with the insurance. I went out of Valley Hospital and the coordinator was very knowledgeable of the system. I don't know percentages, but if you meet the criteria and have all the docs in place you should be golden. After they submit, give it a few days then you can log into your account online and see if it has gone through the system yet. Or give them a call. Best of luck!! -
I am so sorry Frank.

Nervous about 6 week appt
JerseyGirl68 replied to wordygirl74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great. Almost 5 lbs a week! More than 10% of your body weight lost already. Unless your doctor gave you reason to believe you needed to hit a specific number by week 6, relax. Be proud of what you have done so far and enjoy! Good luck at your appointment!
