  1. Hello Irish, I am 51, have never been this fat 5'6"/250. Both my parents died young, my father was fat, my mom just didn't take care of herself. I just want t o be HEALTHY......no beauty queen. Energy, being able to wear many of my smaller clothes, CROSSING MY LEGS IF I WANT TO , OR DO SQUATS! (-: Hope to hear more from you. Lisa =^..^=
  2. Hi All August Bandsters, I'm scheduled for August 6th. Self pay. Am lucky enough to know the Dr. as I am an ER nurse and we have a pretty small community. Boy, it's nice to know that so many of us are going thru so many head trips (nice to know I'm not alone!) This is such a life changing event lot's of "stuff" the think about, and soon we will not be able to "stuff":eek:I've even set aside a small amout of $$ to go into a seperate bank account with every payday to pay for the "may be needed" counseling!:heh: No preop diet. I'm with you Munchkins (?) on the limited Fluid intake with food thing. I really drink alot throughout the day and WITH meals. Have been practicing, but it's hard. Just SO looking forward to smaller sizes, being able to cross my legs, and being able to squat if I feel like it! :clap2: Lisa =^..^=
  3. Hi All! My surgery is scheduled for August 6th. Am getting pretty excited, also too a little "weird" Kind of depressed/anxious. A freind who had a struggle after her gastric bypass says it's like peeling an onion. As the weight comes off so do the layers of protection, possibly exposing many "issues" that we can bury with our eating habits. Altho I somtines feel like I'm treated like a secondclass citizen being fat, I (many years ago) felt vulnerable when I was slim and got "noticed". At least now now I'm 50 yrs and mature/secure enough with ME regardless of the attention I may get...at least I'm hope I am! (-: Lisa

  5. Hi Stacie, I live in Oregon and the hospital where I work and am having it done is Sky Lakes Medical Center. The surgeon is Dr. Mirande. He has gotten a contract w/ the hospital to do the procedure at what is considered a very competitive cost (Just a little more than Mexico) plus 2 free fills. I live about 5 miles from the hospital. Lisa
  6. Hi! My name is Lisa and I have a surgery date of August 6th. I am an RN who works in the ER and have had the pleasure of getting to know the doc over many years of working with him in an ER setting. I am self pay (!) as our insurance considers WLS "cosmetic" but am hoping at the end of the year I can recoup some of the medical expense when I do my taxes. The important thing is getting this done and on with my life in better health. BTW...am sure having a hard time navigating this site. I get e-mails saying I have a response , but can not find them...any suggestions?? Lisa

    June 2007 Bandsters

Hi Everyone, I found this thread and liked the newness of the recent Bandsters. I have been looking into it for about a year and got the date today. I have to get a psych eval, an esophogram, labs, EKG and attend a day long seminar with a nutritionist and other misc folks. We have a monthly support meeting that is strongly advised, and I will go to, who knows, maybe even start my own to meet more often. I'm having to pay for this myself and am starting a savings to go exclusivly towards fills, counselling etc. This is serious business so have fun! (-: Hope all are doing well and look forward to getting to know you guys. Lisa =^..^=

    Less than three weeks!

Hello Everyone, My name is Lisa and today I got the Surgical date set.....Aug 6th. I am 51 yrs old, about #100 overwt. I've alway's battled the bulge but after turning 50, having a foot injury that really limited my excersise and working 12+ hr shifts I really packed it on. I am SO looking forward to having more energy, being able to cross my legs, and generally having a choice on not wearing a tent or a shroud! I have only told a few people of my descision to do this. I know it's only a tool to help me on my journey back to health. Glad to have found this site and hope to connect with others! Lisa
