Strong meds vs. small stomach
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to cmaloney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to take Biaxin last month and it tore me up. I ended up calling my NP and asking for a shot of Rocephin instead. She agreed that it was best. I'm on a zpak now and it's not bothering me too much. -
8 weeks out and feeling doubt...
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to Strangefruit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
At 8 weeks, measure your food and don't go over the recommended amount (1/2 cup or so). Your body isn't healed yet and doesn't know it's full until it's overfull. -
8 weeks out and feeling doubt...
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to Strangefruit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are doing great. Just keep focusing on the positive... how much better your clothes fit, how many sizes you're down, how much longer you can work out, etc. The numbers aren't the full story. We all go through periods where the scale just doesn't cooperate. My longest stall was 6 weeks and I finally had to have my hubby hide the scale because I was driving myself batty. Your doctor sounds like a ******! Ignore him! Just keep working that sleeve. -
Ugh! - dang weather
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to dltrautman1's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm guess you're in the early stages. A lot of gas stations have Protein drinks these days. Look for those. If you have to, get some soft cheese and chew the heck out of it. Maybe a yogurt too? Save traveling. -
Challenge: New Year's Day 2013
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to Holly5.3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think I'm going to make 220 by New Years. Not giving up! I have lost 12 pounds since my original post on 11/25. I had REALLY slowed down as I hit that 6 month mark so I'm very happy with my progress. -
Bionic Smell?
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to GeauxForIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My personal thought is that your nose is just returning to "normal" smelling power after years of bombarding our taste buds with crap. Processed, chemical crap that destroys our taste buds and sense of smell. -
pink stuff? anyone make it. good protein and flavor
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to bbkipps99's topic in Food and Nutrition
I made it and blended it when I was on purees! I love that stuff. Need to make some this week. I've been known to leave out the cool whip and just put a dollop on top as I eat my serving. It sets up firmer if you do that. -
I smell funny
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to Dianne38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drink as much water as you can to help flush out the toxins. Really no cure except to add in carbs It's showing that your lifestyle change is working! -
What was your Christmas meal like?
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to PdxMan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Breakfast: Scrambled egg and 1 3" pancake with SF syrup Lunch: 2 oz Brisket, 1 spoon green Beans, 1 deviled egg, 1 bite of potato salad snack: 2 bites of brownie, 2 bites of apple pie, 1 bite of pecan pie dinner: 1 tamale with meat chili (homemade chili) and 4 chips with a bit of queso dip. Not my greatest day. But way different than past Christmas "feasts." -
How do you get it all in?
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to LDallas's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can't possibly get all my Protein in without a shake or yogurt. I add beneprotein to my yogurt to bump it up. Put yourself on a schedule (with a timer if needed) and stick to that schedule of eating, waiting, drinking, eating, waiting, drinking... you get the picture. It will become habit after a while and you won't need the timer. -

My Final Diet Plan
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to Davius61's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm a nurse manager and I understand where you're coming from. I work an average of 60 hours a week plus I never get away from the phone calls. They're non-stop when I'm home. The stress is a huge factor in my poor eating decisions. Can you turn your commute into part of your exercise program? Get off a stop early and walk the rest of the way to work? While the sleeve has taken care of my volume eating issues. It doesn't help me control those stress moments when I find myself turning to a cookie for comfort. That has been the hardest habit to stop. I'm still not perfect but I'm working on that habit. Good luck! -
How long before you were comfortable?
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to HoosierGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my EGD on Tuesday, sleeve on Wednesday and went back to work the next Monday. I had to force myself to stay at my desk and not go assist with patient care. I also only worked 5-6 hours those first few days back. -
Hiatal Hernia And Vsg At The Same Time
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to njbrittany's topic in Insurance & Financing
I had mine repaired at the same time and did just what you said. Unfortunately I'm in Texas so I can't recommend a doc. Good luck to her! -
Why low carb?
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to SleeveNZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whole grain products like whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, quinoa, etc. -
Remember you cant produce the necessary enzymes to break it down in large quantities right now. I would avoid liquid milk for a while and keep trying it as you get farther out from surgery.

Having issue wih meat
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to Eat That Frog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can be a vegetarian and have the sleeve. Just make sure you're getting plenty of Protein from other sources. meat has to be very moist & soft for me too. I eat a lot of meat salads that I make myself to control fat and additives (chicken salad, tuna salad, ham salad, etc). I love shrimp and fish. Chicken and turkey are nearly always a problem unless I cook them in the crock pot. I use ground turkey instead of ground beef and we rarely eat beef unless it's a roast (again, crock pot). If you don't have a crock pot, invest in one. They are on sale here at Christmas time. I have a small one if I'm cooking just a couple of individual servings and a family size for a family meal. -
Severe Hair Loss
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to Sil_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with Rootman. I don't think you can avoid it. Your body is in a huge state of shock right now. It will grow back over time. Mine is desperately thin right now. I do have a couple of spots on top that are nearly bald. I cut my hair, keep it healthy by not torturing it with heat devices, eat my Protein and take my Vitamins. It's finally starting to grow back in at 6 months. -
Why low carb?
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to SleeveNZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Simple carbs are addictive so avoid them like a recovering alcoholic avoids booze. Simple carbs trigger a rush of insulin, which drops your blood sugar, your body responds by wanting more carbs to fight the drop in blood sugar. It's a vicious cycle so just stay away. You can have complex carbs as they are slower absorbed and don't cause the massive release of insulin. Focus on these. -
Portion control tools
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to brandibandtosleeve2012's topic in Food and Nutrition
scale and measuring cups. Small plates- I never eat off a full-size plate. Small bowls- like 1 cup size bowls I didn't buy anything. I already had this stuff. -
Why low carb?
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to SleeveNZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 months out. My diet is to be approximately 1000 calories a day, 80 grams of Protein a day and about 60 grams of carbs. That's a lot of carbs to me but they come from the RIGHT carbs. For me that means nothing white (Pasta, rice potatoes, etc). I get my carbs from dairy produts, low starch vegetables and whole grain pasta, bread, etc. You know all the reasons why early on... no room for anything but protein, low carb speeds weight loss, some carbs trigger cravings, etc. As you add carbs, focus on adding in the right carbs. -
How do you eat?
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to connie3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember, at this early stage you may not feel full. Your nerves were severed in your stomach and are healing. I recommend measuring everything you eat and not exceeding 1/2 cup (1/4 cup may be all you can hold early on). -
