so this past sunday (02/02/14) I had a family event my nieces baby shower wasn;t worried about going at all the strangest thing happened I didn;t think about! so I come from a big family I have 8 siblings myself most of them have kids and I have a lot of aunts and uncles and cousins etc so massive family a lot of them do not live in London so I don't see them much. anyway what I didn;t think about at all was how many family members were coming to the baby shower who haven't seen me at all in 4 years or more! as I am used to the ones I see all the time seeing me this didn;t enter my head that my own family wouldn;t even recognise me and walk right by me! yep this happened about 10 times lol either walking by me or saying hello to my sister sitting next to me when I say hi I got that polite hi reply you give someone you don't know then them walking off. it was only when they were told it was me or I went over to speak to them and they realised who I was followed by complete shock some screeching and a lot of oh my god oh my god! so this threw me completely I sat wondering hmmm do I really look THAT different? really? even smaller I still look like my other siblings. I also realized I wet from being the biggest person in the room always at every event to one of the smallest THAT was a total trip as I have some really tiny ladies in my family so to be part of the skinnest 5 out of 45 people is a holy s**t moment! it is really funny but also a mind F at the same time. has this happened to anyone else? I also realized I hadn;t actually told some people I had the op I was racking my brain thinking who have I told realized I said I was looking into it with my older siblings but never got round to telling them seeing them or showing them a picture the oldest 2 didn't come down so my sis in law took a pic to show them lol

Tasting Room - Protein Drinks
sassypants replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I found every single brand and flavour I tried pre op was utterly disgusting post op to me lol So I started again on my taste testing samples and give away all the stuff I had bought pre op. After starting again on the taste testing the only one I have is PhD diet whey in chocolate orange flavour. Tried all kinds of PhD flavours I just can’t do them actually NOT a milkshake fan wasn’t pre op not really now hot choc coffee shakes blugh no thanks! So for me to find one I can drink all day every day for almost 2 years is frigging fantastic to me lol They do ready to drink juicy types which I have tasted all 3 flavours I bought a couple of packs of orange for on the go, they do have a underlying extremely watery yoghurt taste but its not unpleasant but does have a dry mouth effect. I would suggest not stocking up on shakes pre op for post op its happened to a lot of us taste or tolerance changing after Btw in the uk we don’t have a lot of the same brands. -
I would suggest speaking to your bariatric team about it too not just your obgyn as different departments don’t always know the effects this surgery has on you to deal with it properly. Learnt that first hand, so you need to speak to both or make sure your obgyn KNOWS whats going on not just a guess or what they think but KNOWS. Little non wls example instead of using my own my friend has major problems absorbing B Vitamins and folic acid she gets jabs for it shes now pregnant just going from her GP to her midwife she got conflicting info told just take normal prenatal vitamins WRONG advice. Just a case of this department thinks they know best as they deal with pregnancies day in and day out but she has other issues that have to also be addressed. Myself I have been given the wrong medication by a GP who has no clue I now only see one GP in my doctors as I don’t want to end up in hospital again from advice from a medical professional who doesn’t get it.

The big closet clean
sassypants replied to LoveNKindness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope you sold them I sold about half of mine and made over £1,000 and that was to one person! The rest I give to cancer research shop to sell and kept a few bits for hopefully one day preggo clothing. It was really sad and I did look at all the things that still had price tags on but I never got to wear because I never left the house because of my back hip and knees and then I got too big to fit in them. I thought I would wear them when I lost weight but I lost so fast I bypassed being able to without laughing at how big there were. Some of my fav stuff was really hard to get ride of, thankfully I am much more of a pj person if I could get away with walking the streets in my pjs and not look mental I would! Don’t buy too many things at the start you change sizes so quickly you might only get a months wear out of them. Now I buy new stuff every month it’s a bad bad habit (I say knowing I just ordered 3 more dresses and a skirt yesterday lol) New you- new clothes- new memories -
i'm in the uk and i get mine from http://www.dolphinfitness.co.uk i get PhD diet whey but they hav eloads and loads of them and ready to drinks PhD does them as a juice not shake type though they do leave your mouth feeling dry.

Before the op I didn’t have periods for years now I do. Holy hell I have MAJOR pmt hormones mega cranky irritated b*tch syndrome! They only finally settled down and become regular as clockwork end of last year so nov till today I can honestly set my watch by then the week before I am a major pain the in butt everything annoys me and I would happily kill people in a heartbeat! I like being a normal woman who doesn’t have issues with having them and all the bad bad crap I had to deal with from not having them for so many years but a side effect of this op I could do without is these raging hormones! Anyone else noticed a increase in monthly raging crazy since the op? It could be totally normal just been years since I experienced them to know lol

Some times it’s the hardest thing to do and let go of someone you love so much. But if its not right and not working and no respect for you and the family unit then it has to be done. Sometimes we hope people will grow up given time we hope and pray every day they will some just don’t. A friend of mine to divorced last year her husband was cheating on her said he never wanted there second baby and he didn’t want to be tied down any more. Left her and the 2 kids youngest being 4 months old. He immediately went public on his new girlfriend who has a child. He now plays daddy to that kid could care less about his own but hes still a immature child his parents pay his bills and he is almost 30 years old. Some people just don’t grow up. We can’t fix everyone and again as painful as that might be you do have your own life and the welfare of your kids to consider. If you do get back together I personally wouldn’t allow him to move back in for a year on condition he has a job the same job throughout and if he does choose to do things recreationally it doesn’t become a problem. You need and deserve an equal partner not another child to take care of. good luck

did they not tell you that you are super crazy fertile after the op and DO NOT get pregnant? they explained in one of my pre op group meetings how your hormones flood you make you like super fertile and then the risks of becoming pregnant for the first year after. its also funny because you know the ladies who were doing this just to get pregnant as they perked up and asked all kinds of questions at this point lol

Sleeve weight loss times?
sassypants replied to Llunker's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
i can;t help with stats as i never tracked them. but i would suggest not planning a wedding for a year and half -2 years out in all honesty. weddings are stressful anyway with all the planning plus dress fitting with be crazy as you can still be losing weight even 2 years out. your skin takes a additional 6 months to tighten up after a weightloss so this will give you time for it to catch up and be a little tighter overall skinwise. your hair would be growing back in and on a healthy level by that time too. also its your wedding you will be far enough out that you can eat a little more have a drink or 2 and not feel the pain etc as you would 6months to a year out. whatever you decide hope you both enjoy the day! -
How many sizes have you dropped?!?
sassypants replied to rensterness's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i was bigger than a uk 38 (us 36) if it was fixed waistband and just fit if it was elasticated. now i can fit into elasticated waistbands from a size 10uk like leggings etc fixed coz of the skin 16/18uk dresses i do a 16/18uk. knitwear i like bigger but i have that in sizes 16-20uk depending on what it is and what type if i will be wearing something under it or not etc soooo that 11 dress sizes if you just take the 38 down to a 16. -

I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)
sassypants replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I would if I knew them lol Its not something I kept track of honestly I just knew I lost weight every time I was weighed and that was good enough for me. The only time I happen to write anything down was when I was 2 months 8 days out and I had lost 106lbs in that time 119lbs pre and post overall. On the 20th I was at the docs and I was down another 11lbs, which took me under 200lbs and a total overall weight loss to date both pre and post op of 227lbs -
I feed my iv bag down the sleeve of my pjs when I demanded I put mine on lol I forgot about the chap stick or for me vasaline that is a must for sure! I didn’t take anything for gas as they give me peppermint oil periodically throughout the day to deal with that. Also them leg thingies that inflate and deflate to “move” your legs are velcro strapped which they take off when they have you up walking which they do the very next day as walking around helps with gas and helps clear your lungs so you don’t developed Fluid on them so pjs are fine if you want them. I was always in and out of my leg compression things can’t sit still for very long!

Question for those who have lost over 100 bs post sleeve
sassypants replied to Zoumommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm lets see with complete honesty… I didn’t start working out till around 8 months out as I wasn’t medically allowed too. Started off swimming once a week then I upgraded to 3 days a week in the gym doing about 30-40mins of weights and roughly 5-10mins cardio. Haven’t been to the gym since nov though lol Calories? Couldn’t tell you I never have and never will count them. I also don’t weight my food I use the same 2 plates and bowels and go by eye I did to start with but its also a habit I didn’t want to get into. The whole not knowing how much food I can take by sight or going by my gut feeling when enough is enough is pointless to me that means never going out or away or eating at friends etc who carries a scale with them where ever they go? I don’t drink Water. Things that I do… I have 3-4 Protein shakes a day throughout the day and night. It’s my Fluid in take plus tea I don’t drink anything else on a weekly basis but these really sometimes nothing other than these in a whole month. I have a small sleeve so food is difficult and takes a while so I have that many shakes I don’t have Snacks every day plus meals I just have the shakes plus meals. I don’t have typical carbs in meals such as rice Pasta potatoes so my meals consist of veg and meat and I will add in Beans and pulses but not always. Sometimes its just veg and beans or just veg if I don’t want meat. I rarely eat bread I will have the odd bit and by bit I don’t even mean a slice I mean like the end of a french stick that’s about 3 bites. I will have a wholemeal tortilla when I make fajitas so if I make that one day I will have the wrap if not no wrap that week. I take my Vitamins every day without fail. The “bad” things.. I do I have chips/candy/chocolate/cake/soda/booze if I fancy a bit of it oddly I haven’t had ice cream much at all I think the last time was about 8 months ago lol I don’t over do it of course. For me this is a tool and I wanted to be as “normal” as possible after I didn’t want to become obsessive over calorie counting food weighting never touching A B C or D again my weight and weighing myself. I have never weighed myself at home if I am not at the doctors or at a hospital appointment its not something I go out of my way to do. When you first come out you have a lot of appointments I had other medical stuff I was doing also so I was at the hospital weekly for months then it was every month now its spread out a little more but if I go to the doctors for any reason I will get my weight checked too that’s enough for me to be happy with. With that being said what works for me isn’t always right for anyone else nor am I telling you to do what I do. but yeah thats what i do! -

Things I packed or had brought into me were: books, slippers, own night gown or pjs dressing gown pair of thick socks. I took a couple of pillows too (nhs I was only given 2 I needed more!) Laptop pocket wifi. Cleanser cottonwool night cream baby wipes as I wasn’t allowed to shower but ugh gross toothpaste toothbrush I didn’t bring it but mouth wash your mouth feels like utter crap I think I brushed my teeth like every 20mins and ugh still all the time. Hairbrush dry shampoo deodorant. No point for me taking in drink or anything Water wasn’t my friend the hospital give me hot water (blugh) or tea when I wanted a drink so for me no point in water and they give you jugs of it here. No point taking in food either. You just need things to while away the boring hours and some personal items to make you feel human. Funny little story I was done last of the day so it was around 10pm before I was put on ward they were trying to carefully move me to the bed and I was mumbling and monaing my mum asked me what I wanted I said BATHROOM! They were like we will get you a bed pan hold on dear I said NO! and just walked off trailing my iv in a daze lol Then when I got back more pointing and mumbles mum asked me what now and I said CLOTHES! And proceeded to strip off in a drunken manner and shove my own pjs on before I allowed them to put me in the bed to go to sleep lol I didn’t want to be in a gown my mum was laughing her head off at me coz I was all snappy and just making sounds sitting on a chair till they allowed me to just do what I wanted lol

I had pocs and never had a period for yearssss the hormones stored in your fat cells is released when its used by your body flooding you with hormones. This is why I now have periods and no longer have pocs it corrected its self just from my own hormones stored in my fat. Your stored hormones seem to be overriding what your taking and your body is doing what its naturally gonna do.

What size bougie was used?
sassypants replied to niassy151's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don’t know and i don’t care honestly lol I know they all pretty much go along the same lines as a guide they have to due to blood vessels etc I know the size of the sleeve you end up with really doesn’t have a baring on what size guide they use but on the initial size of your stomach going in. And I know my doc also reinforced my staples with stitches. I’m good with mine I don’t need to know. -
They tell you not to even wear nail polish as they put a heart monitor on your big toe and finger. I didn’t wear anything and wouldn’t want too imagine waking u after they have tapped your eyes shut and stuck tubes in your mouth a oxygen mask and its all smeared all over your face lol So much for looking pretty!

High Heels....
sassypants replied to gohelpyourself's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here in the uk what my bariatric head of department told me in my hospital is you have to plateau for at least 6 months and then at least 2 years out before you can even start the process of apply if you were done on the nhs like me. Not sure on self pays but I know nhs rules I have been told it 3 times even though I am almost 2 years out I haven’t stopped loosing weight so I can’t even start the process of applying for it yet. It could be different for different hospitals also you don’t apply for plastics via your team you have to go back to your gp who refer you to a plastics department and its all applied for via a board if your nhs because the op was founded they say yes or no to plastics after. Not as easy at all here to have it done generally you have to have major medical reason to need it to get it and even then its not always a yes- this is when insurance and it paying would help lol
