Anyone else had to do 'The Weigh Ahead Programme' ?
sassypants replied to luckyknickers57's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hmmm mine was pretty simple I had 1 group meeting at the hospital talking about all the surgery options food how it will be after etc Then a few pre op appointments 1 with the shrink that’s all I needed they told me I had no issues I would need to work out so no need to book any more with them. Did the health tests blood work discussed what surgery I wanted. That was it waited for my date and done. -

Let's Talk hormones and tears
sassypants replied to IzzyBelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
its really common hun your stored fat cells have a buttload of stored hormones in them too as your body uses the fat it FLOODS your body with hormones and sends you off into la la crazy yo-yo land! it lightens up as your body gets used to it and learns how to process this sudden overload its getting. hang in there! -
Dear Veterans, has your hunger returned?
sassypants replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don’t get hungry ever I openly admit there have been days I haven’t eaten a thing just drank my shakes because by the time it enters my head I haven’t eaten its like 9pm and I don’t want food anyway so I think meh tomorrow. For me though that’s nothing new pre op I would also go hours without eating some times almost the whole day. One of the few people told off and told to increase food intake months and months before the op I bet lol It was a combination of my ibs being so bad I just got to the point I didn’t want to eat for the hours of pain I have from eating and getting side tracked working. I work from home so I would go to my desk and start working and just not think about it for hours suddenly look at the time and think oh not even eaten yet today and 6 or so hours have passed. I also smoke and back then I drunk a lot of coke, first thing I would drink was coke until I went to sleep! So pretty much killed off my appetite with that instead of food. So dunno if it’s the sleeve or just how I am from years of a habit of not thinking of food or thinking about eating. -
I was given these absolutely disgusting foul nasty A-Z liquid vitamin drops! In my 30s and my mum would have to drop the 12 drops in my mouth because after the first time I just could not do it then I would sit there with this pool if gross in my mouth because I did not want to swallow it lol Soon as I could I tossed them out for kids orange chewable ones and just double the amount instead. Now I take adult A-Zinc ones way better! I also came out with adcal-D3 which is a effervescent calcium and D combination lemon flavour. And then what I was on already which was folic acid and a strong B complex. I got blood work alllllll the time so if something was low I would be given booster pills to bring that back up.

One of the reason I really like my surgeon is he tells you straight and whats really behind the fluff we are almost scared into like how easy it is to stretch a sleeve- its really not that easy at alllll. Anyway they say no caffeine mostly because they want you off soda and it’s a diacritic and caffeine addiction can have really bad withdrawal symptoms. I was given normal caffeinated tea first thing in the morning on ward after my op. I drink decaf tea as I have never like the effect teas caffeine has on me bad bad headaches. I drank at least 2ltr of coke a day every day and never had the kind of headaches I get the day after drinking caffeinated tea all day. But when I have coke bet your life its got caffeine in it! Though it does help you go number 2 regularly it stimulates the intestines and bowel.

was told to stop the prilosec by surgeon
sassypants replied to jaysleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I’m on lansoprazole I take 2 a day because I smoke. When you first come out they say 2 a day for 6 months then 1 a day but as I smoke I take 2 a day as directed by my doctor. I normally take one right before I go to sleep and if I happen to have drunk a shake or eaten too close to falling asleep I will wake up choking on it its awful. -

The stored fat your body is using releases sooooooo many stored hormones it floods your system. You’re going to go up and down like a yo-yo you feel like your going nuts but its very normal its hormone overload like pms on major steroids. It settles down as you your body gets used to it at the start for a couple of months it’s a bit nuts.

Do you still enjoy food?
sassypants replied to vincereautmori's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I do yes, I love to cook always have I like to feed people not in a crazy way but a need a drink? Hungry? In a take care of you kind of way I openly admit I mother every one lol Also hey I am 1 of 9 half Irish half Italian my mother pretty much took care of her siblings and her father at 8 years old when her mother left and come to England so it’s a complete take care of people mentality handed down to me- one way to show love and care is to feed and take care of someone. So now I enjoy finding new recipe ideas and making them and having everyone eat it and 99% of the time they enjoy them new and interesting dishes. I also find because we pick and choose what we eat we do enjoy it, no longer eating anything we like and not really thinking even if we do enjoy it. it never was REALLY a conscience thought because nothing was off limits before now it is or the amount didn’t matter before it does now so whatever I decide to put in my mouth and eat I think about it first and I enjoy it. -
Does your spouse know how much you weigh?
sassypants replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I tell everyone all the time I wasn’t shy about it before not at any weight when I was rapidly gaining towards the end and talking about needing the op I spoke about it too more in concern about if it continues how much will I be in 5 months time kinda thing. But my on again off again guy knew the whole time every point too biggest on down. Some people are just not comfortable talking about it anyway regardless of how big or small some not. When you go through this your asked a lot about your weight it’s a ugh place if its just not really something your ok with constantly answering all the time. -
What are some of your goals?
sassypants replied to Shortcake's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I really wanted smaller feet that didn’t happen I didn’t lose bone length in them lol The only things I really wanted to happen honestly was for some of my doctors to be right and that the hormones released that were stored in my fat cells did reverse the borderline cancer biopsies I was getting and not have to have treatment or end up having a hysterectomy if it went full blown cancer. I also wanted my sleep apnoea gone and that did happen. I never really had other goals just smaller and healthy goals met on them! -
No one was saying you were wrong just also giving opinions and info on what we know personally and speaking or reading by many others too. It’s a common listed side effect of rapid weight loss, any kind of rapid weight loss not just surgery type related. For me my hair was falling out before wls because i had extreme ibs had the op it slowed right down in the first month, stopped falling out the second month I was happy as hell with that thought I was gonna bypass the whole hair falling out phase. Wrong! Not long after 5 months out it started falling out slowly at first then faster and continued for a few months. Yes I noticed it because I have very fine thin hair there isn’t loads and loads of it to hide continued loss and bright white scalp.

My Period Is Regular! But Facial Hair Is Here To Stay :(
sassypants replied to Estella's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had laser before the op when I still had pcos and it helped so much I only did 1 round of treatments and I would say it cut about 70% of the hair and it grows much slower I got a groupon deal 3 small areas so I did chin lip and armpits all 6 treatments over the year total cost £115. Laser works best on fair skin and dark hair it wont remove blonde hair as it need the colour in the hair for the laser to travel down. And if you tan or you have darker skin is can cause patchy discoloured skin. You go every 5 weeks as the hair grows in 5 week cycles the day you go some hair might have come out and not be in a growth state so missed that kind of thing. Once you start laser you can not pluck/wax etc no root ripping out so you can only shave for the whole length of time you laser. Laser travels down the hair and into the root damaging it from growing you do several treatments to eventually kill it for good. I still have some hair I will be doing a round 2 groupon again to hopefully get rid of remaining hair from all 3 places for good! -
Where/How/When did you get your motivation?
sassypants replied to aNewTanya's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If your not motivated before the op then it will take you a long time if at all honestly. Its something you have to make up your mind to do as there really are ways and means around sabotaging the sleeve. Its not a magic pill it wont stop you eating “bad” food it wont change your mindset on what you put in it. To fail at using your sleeve simply is very easy you just keep eating junk and fast food and a lot of food or food all day long or do crazy stuff like blend up junk food so it’s a shake (for real I know 2 people who did that) It’s a tool part of a process its not a magic fix like all tools if you misuse it, it wont work or at least not accurately. You will lose some weight sure but you only get out of it what you put in to it and that’s effort and thought. -
Must Have Items for After Surgery
sassypants replied to TheWigster's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For me my must have items I really couldn’t have done without were 2 thermoses one had hot tea in it the other Soup and I had them to drink on all day and night it saved heating and reheating soup whenever I wanted to eat and making tea when I wanted a drink. That’s when I was home in hospital my own pjs vasaline slippers thick socks robe cleanser dry shampoo deodorant face cream baby wipes book. Feeling human is a must when in hospital and i get bored easily so a book and I would go off walking around the hospital and sit out side a lot so slippers and robe was a must lol I got in trouble for that as I was on oxygen I just assumed it was a general thing after surgery and because I didn’t have my cpap machine being used in hospital apparently no during my op I had major low stat drop and it wasn;t fully up to normal for 3 days after my op. Day 2 when they found out I was wondering around a lot out of boredom I was told stay on it till your stats are up! Also ended up being the reason I stayed in so long but I wasn;t told this to know and they told me to be up and about but apparently not that much or that far away lol -
Family plunged into panic mode :(
sassypants replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think the lose skin makes us look even smaller to other people in a odd way, we look like we are wearing clothes that are too big for us but this happens to be our skin hanging off of us not clothing! Think of kids playing dress up mummy or daddies shoes and clothes how tiny they look drowning in them that’s us with skin. So to peoples eye and a way to process it is to see it as we are way smaller than we seem because our skin is literally hanging off our frail bones. Its that whole deflated within ourselves look. For us we pull it and smoosh it and hold it here or there to try and see how we will look once its gone because its extra layers to us and makes us look bigger than we really are to them smaller in this layer. The mind is a tricky little devil and lose saggy skin just sadly makes you look a bit frail and sickly because it is saggy sunken and hanging. They are just worried and scared we go through the whole mind F part of processing the weight loss and how crazy and fascinating and mind boggling it is to see, they saw it but like with most people who see you every day or several times a week it really doesn’t hit them like someone who hasn’t seen you for month. Maybe they are just REALLY noticing how much smaller you are now and its hitting them in the mind F way and they are trying to process it but not really understanding their own thoughts and feelings on why they feel this way. Maybe some of it but not all of it so its coming out in a overbearing smothering really concerned way. -
Sleevers over 300lbs?
sassypants replied to dstined4gr8tnes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was over 400lbs day of my op I am just barely under 200lbs now barely but it counts! lol 2 and a bit months away from my 2 year out anniversary recent weight loss was 11lbs between start of jan and end feb, which was high considering nov-jan was only 4.4lbs lol it doesn’t really matter the starting weight numbers but how you go forward and use your tool for best results. -

Here in Canada we have a free plastic surgery because of WLS. One time only..So we are very selective as to which surgeon we go for. Who gives you the most bang for your buck! But there are hacks here too. So I will be careful who I chose....No panel.....Just Doctor recommendations can get it done. Here they do include skin loss as part of a goal. It would not be prudent not too. It is unnecessary skin adding potential problems to your health. It makes since to me that they would include it and have a good idea about how much skin you have to have removed. They leave it up to you if you want it or not....No pressure. does not matter as some find it not a problem. Me it is a big problem....... It never seemed included to me as no one can predict how much you will lose and they can’t predict how your skin will be. I was told I would have no loose skin on my legs as they were not really big- well that was rubbish I lost weight on my legs first and so fast I have saggy knees on up lol They know we WILL have loose skin but to what degree and how much is a unknown variable so didn’t think anyone factored it in when they start and decide (if they do) on a end goal. I think the concerns are further down the line if you can’t slow it down now or even go a few weeks on a plateau they are projecting that you will just keep losing weight month after month get sick and then it’s a scary problem that none of them want. It does slow down and will when your body is done it will work its self out and find its sweet spot and you will maintain maybe going up and down 10lbs either side all the time. I no way thought I would lose this much weight and still be losing, to be frank neither did any of my doctors! I haven’t stalled once to my knowledge in almost 2 years its slower and I know once there isn’t anything left to lose it will stop. I sometimes wonder where the weight is coming from when I am down yet again I assume all the lose skin is just skin but its not its got a lot of fat in it still especially my belly and that’s where its going from. As long as you’re not under eating and going crazy your body will settle down soon enough. Families just love you and worry if you have underlying medical issues, which I read you do then they can overly worry about you. Maybe sit them down and say look I get it your worried I wont or can’t stop even if I try to and become a 50lbs frail sick skeleton but its ok my body is still using its fat storage you may not be able to see it as much but its still there under the skin in places. I will adjust to working out too find the even keel where fuel in is maintaining what I output. I think if you just settle their fears a bit that your still ok and its not going to be some crazy obsession like them crazy people on the biggest looser who go too far to win they might settle down a bit and back off for a while. -

If a cheaper one isn’t enough double the dose -
Its called a upsale the more upsales they do before/during/after the more money they make. Big ole fat bonus checks coming there way in commission for allllll the upsales they scare into people buying. Its pretty shady and a downside to having a system where you pay for everything. Don’t let the fear make you buy from them they are medical professionals they know that telling you you can ONLY have what they provide has a underlying tone of “or else you will fail and if you ever do gain weight or not lose enough one time we will blame it on this and push harder” A scare tactic nothing more. What if you hate the taste of what they sell or can’t tolerate it? Don’t be bullied into purchasing from them go along with it say yes yes then just don’t say you changed your mind as you researched it and found something you find more palatable.

Family plunged into panic mode :(
sassypants replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Didn;t read the whole thread its almost 5am here so tired lol But correct me if I am wrong isn’t goal weight meant to be what you reach without plastics? I personally didn’t set a goal with my team I only put one in my ticker because I had to for an end goal. But I assumed goal was weight lost not weight lost plus skin removal for final tally, what if your skin is 10lbs more or less than you thought? If its less then your not at goal again and back we go to the scale watching and loosing. Also what if you don’t get plastics its denied or you can’t afford it or like in the uk it goes to a board for approval then goal is who knows when away. -
Could always not step on the scales for a few weeks. Stressing about the weight over and over isn’t good for you stress can make you gain weight too.
