4 Months Post Op And Still Sick:-(

I am like a week ahead of you I was sleeved on the 15th of may, its difficult for me too I am sick a lot can’t drink much, eat much, in pain mine isn’t gall stones because my gall bladder was removed a few years ago. My doc said it sometimes takes people longer than 6-8 weeks to heal and be on food, you just have to go back to stage 2 and work forward again. I am also being x rayed and scanned in 4 weeks time for scare tissue making my stomach opening smaller. You have to remember you had an op that takes a while to heal and is delicate, and then you had another op on the same side that takes its own time to heal too. 2 ops in such a short amount of time is going to be wearing on your body. You’re very bruised internally and externally from the surgeries you have to carefully build up your tummy to handle food again and each op has its own crappy pain to deal with. I can tell you my gall bladder op took far longer to recover from than the sleeve. You just have to allow your body to adjust and recover at its own pace. Speak to your doctor/nurse that’s what they are there for ask them if its normal they might do blood tests and find out your lacking in vitamins, things like iron and B vitamins will have you feeling tired if you are lacking in them.
  2. You haven’t put any details but I would ask your doc or nurse if you can or not. I am just starting my 11th week out and the only pill I am allowed to take is my folic acid pill that is this big o its a tiny fat pill and even then she told me if I feel pain twinges to stop taking them. You need to get a crusher for pills your meant to take that they can’t give you in effervescent/dissolve on tongue/liquid form

    Tastes Have Changed...

i saw my doc thursday and she smirked and asked me if my tastebuds had changed yet, I said YES! Everything is sweet! I used to be very sensitive to salt like even the smallest amount of salt (and pepper for that matter) was in something I could taste. Now everything is sweet its like someone has spiked all food and drink with bags of sugar! I wasn’t even a sweet tooth person before so this is such a pain in the butt!

    Juicing

skin and seeds won;t go in the juice from a proper juicer they have a fine wire mesh that don;t allow anything but juice through even tiny seeds.

    Juicing

i asked about juicing and was told after 4 weeks I can have some but I must mix it with half water for a few months. We have 2 of the juice master books and mum will go to a fruit and veg wholesalers. If you buy a weeks worth of stuff its a lot cheaper than in store and because its kinda set up like a market (um English style not sure if you have the same markets as us lol) You can go say how much for *list stuff then go to another and compare or say well that guy said this much and knock the price down. The good thing about wholesalers is they want rid of everything every 2 days so they will sell cheaper and end of day trading is a good time to hit them too.

    How Bad Is Post-Op Farting?

i wasn’t farty I burped a lot (still do!) but I also stuck to hot drink, cold/water hurt and made me feel like I was being punched. So I had a thermos of decaf tea with me and that’s what I drank plus another with broth in it so all mine was hot and the burping is kinda instant with a warm drink. I also never had a fart accident lol

    Food Funeral For Real!

I had 3 meals 3 days before my pre op started mums lasagne was the sat, then I had roast pork potatoes and veg sun and Monday day before I had mums homemade chicken and veg pie. That was it for me they were the 3 things I wanted and mum was like we can go anywhere or order any food you want they were my choices! I lost weight during my pre op diet even when I had to switch from my first choice to food on doctors orders. They know we do the last supper thing and what I was told is as long as you do it at least a week before the op then its not so bad what they find is people stick to the pre op then the 1-2 days before op day they panic and do the last meal thing ruining the point of the pre op diet. Which isn’t for weightloss at all its to shrink the liver.
  8. A few years ago maybe like 5 not sure was long ago though my mother and I were out shopping for Christmas stuff my mum wanted to get my niece a outfit so we went in a tiny persons shop and yes I got the looks when I was holding things up lol I picked a itty bitty dress up and said oh do you have this in… that’s as far as I got before the young lady did a laugh and said NOT YOUR SIZE! I smiled and said I know I’m not stupid but before your rude and assume I am dumb enough to think your kids sizes fit me wait and find out who I am buying for, now you lost a sale for your rudeness hope your manager is happy with shitty staff and poor customer service! Tossed the dress on the counter and told my mum to come on we will go some place not so snotty and retarded with better staff. I mean clearly if I am going into a store where the biggest size is a 16 and I am a 30 of course I k now the stuff don’t fit me don’t insult my intelligence! I hate poor customer service and regardless of looks or size they are there to be nice and help not judgemental and rude! I hope when your looking hot in that jumper you go back in you don’t have to be rude or even say anything just walk around the shop with your own smug grin at hwo good you look!

    Sleep Apnea...question

don't stop do what i did video yourself sleeping then you can see if your tossing and turning or gasping for air or mouth falling open. i am in the uk so everything was free to me, so i don;t know how easy it is for you to get different masks but i would assume you get to test them before you settle and buy one/insurance buys one. ramp up for the longest time even used to my mask i would put it on ramp up for 10-15mins so i could settlebefore it was on full and mostly i would be fast asleep before it was on full strength.
  10. I was asked what weight I would like to be I said I don’t know just smaller and healthy not thought about it nor do I have anything in mind. They said that’s fine it’s the best way to be and that was the end of that. My ticker says 190 I just put that in there because I truly have no goal weight I will know what looks right on my body when I get to it and I will be fine with whatever it is.

    Sleep Apnea...question

You will feel crappy for a few days maybe even a week or so but one day you will wake up and know you just slept so well you will love it. As I said before you do have to have the right mask that works best for you, like if you are a mouth breather you need a full face because if you have just a nasal mask and open your mouth the air is coming out of your mouth and you will still have interrupted sleep. Once I got the gel mask I videoed myself sleeping for 3 nights to make sure I wasn’t opening my mouth, I have also been a nose breather but one of the things you notice with apnoea is you wake up dry mouthed from gasping for air so I wanted to make sure I had the right thing. There are things that can bug you for me it was the straps I had 2 different ones learnt how to wear my hair because one dug into the back of my neck and i wrapped the neck part in cottonwool. I also had the problem of having a tiny nose my mask was actually a kids mask lol first one was a adult xsmall and it dug me in my eyes leaked etc it takes time hun but you will get used to it then for the time you use it you will really like that restful sleep!
  12. Mine didn’t hurt my mum took them out when it was time as they give you the staple removers to take to the nurse at the gp to do so she just did it instead day after they were due out. The removers work in a way that it pushed the middle flat part of the staple into like a v which pops the sides up then you gently pull up and they come out so the whole staple looks like a m. As long as they are clean and not oozing or anything it should be just slight tugging and maybe a pin prick sensation when coming out. My mum was a trained nurse years ago so I was more than ok with her removing mine (it really is easy anyway) and not taking the trip to the gp and wasting a appointment slot someone else can have.

    Getting Out Of Bed

For me I knew how I was gonna sleep because I worked it out a few years ago with gall bladder op! Took a sofa cushion not the little pillow you might have on one but like the seat or back had it like this \ on the bed a length ways folded quilt for padding the bottom gap and I could squish around my butt more pillow for my head and on my sides and slept like a baby.

    Food 1St Week

i wasn’t allowed to do shakes for 2 weeks (so week 3) but I was allowed week 2 to take the pro slams they look like test tubes with lids they are like juice protein I wasn’t told to make sure I got all my protein from them just that I could sip at one as part of the fluid intake.
  15. sorry i said he your no av is a guys cut out to me so i assume male with no pic sorry!
  16. i didn’t say anyone said LT was stupid I posted how I felt on guard to post because maybe I will be called stupid tutted at and called a bad girl- that’s not saying anyone called anyone stupid. I am from a big family 9 of us and no I don’t come down hard on them if they do anything wrong that makes people shut off and ignore you. And again for some of us its on the approved list like it or not its there can scan my diet plans and show you, so if I decided to drink it (yes I had a couple of sips but that was it for me) I am not doing anything wrong in doing so. There is a big difference between chowing down on burgers 9 days out and sipping a flat drink.
  17. I get what you’re saying but as I said for some of us it IS on the approved list of allowed stuff. Honestly I was told in my group meeting diet soda is ok right away but you must stay away from fruit juices for 4 weeks and when you do drink fruit juices to mix them with at least half water. I don’t think LT was coming here to be validated for his choice of drinking coke honestly as someone else pointed out I think he was just posting his “I drank it and felt normal and it reminded me of before and I feel a little better in this crazy time who else?!” No one needs to validate him at all. At the first stage what real nutrition are any of us getting? Broth and water? Really? Because I don’t know about anyone else but I wasn’t even allowed protein shakes till 2 weeks out because they are not on the clear liquid stage of my diet sheet. And speaking of broth how many people bought store bought broth? The kind loaded with salt and other additives? I am willing to bet a lot of people because I have also seen a bunch of posts saying what kind of store bought soup people got. I made my own so I know for the little amount of nutrition I was getting in my just out barely drink a thing stage I was at least doing a better liquid choice than store bought. Water is empty calories and nutrition its good for hydration I can argue the same fact for flat soda. Infact coke zero has 0.75 calories per liter so its hardy a factor for calories (yes I just googled it I didn’t have that fact in my head lol) The flavours people add to water they have no nutritional value either infact they have artificial sweeteners I would say are a bad choice but hey people drink it still. I am not here to slam anyone for not wanting to drink coke (any other soda they wish) or for them wanting to drink water or whatever they want to drink, I am not here to tell anyone to do what i do, I am learning what works for me and what my body tolerates and if asked and I have my own example or suggest on what worked for me I will add to the topic. I got annoyed at how people are treating each other that includes LT and I said so in my first post. When you feel attacked you attack back and it keeps going on. I generally try to keep out of such things because I am highly opinionated and don’t want to fight with anyone but he didn’t do anything wrong by drinking flat diet caffeine free coke 9 days out and he is being told that he did, that his doctors are wrong and he should listen to those people posting telling him he is wrong. Well I was told similar things so our professionally trained medical teams are talking crap but theirs isn’t? Who says? Its your doctors personal opinion on what they want and allow ours allowed it in moderation as long as its flat and your getting fluid its really that simple. I didn’t like how awfully shocked and up in arms some people were like they would never ever eat drink whatever anything not on the approved list again! Give me a break people are human they do things and as far as I am concerned this didn’t warrant the free for all mess it become!

    Gassy

Try peppermint oil you mix with water ask at the pharmacy that’s what they give me to take with warm water its soothing and brings up the air its great!
  19. i keep coming back to this thread and it makes me shake my head as a newbi it also makes me want to watch what I post honestly- what if I slip up and say I did and that’s it its full on your stupid get help tut tut bad girl?! I just want to say to no one in particular diet/zero soda ARE liquids they are mainly Water which you CAN drink in the liquid stage of the diet so frankly the day after the op you can drink it if its flat. Yes it happens to be fizzy unless you let it go flat, and yes it has alot of empty calories and some crap and crappy sweeteners but its still Fluid. Some of us have been told while it’s not ideal BECAUSE of the crap and empty calories in it but we can still drink it if its flat. Its in my paperwork on the pre and post op diets that I can drink it how it comes pre and flat post right there in black and white just because some of your were not told that doesn’t mean your right and we are wrong or vice versa! i mean god I was told not to drink tea or coffee or full fat milk all they give me in hospital was tea with full fat milk! I don’t get why people are jumping so hard on a person assuming he is chugging gallons of fizzy soda and dismissing everything told to him and being told in not so many words he is gonna stay fat or get fat again or going to stall so tough luck and we warned you! That’s pretty shitty to me honestly its like a bunch of ex smokers who go around telling you how bad it is for you all the time when they smoked 80 a day! Yeah we want support yeah we offer support where we can but frankly I am over the tutters and shamers! Please do not tell me not one of you tasted, licked, nibbled, drank a single thing you shouldn’t have since the op or never ever will for the rest of your life! No one is that perfect weather its alcohol a sweet treat takeaway whatever there is bound to be a slip somewhere along the lines no one is perfect and there is a reason within all of us that we got to the point of needing this in the first place! I think people who have been out longer than others forget their old life their habits and mindset. (not everyone just some i have seen around the forum) How hard it is sometimes to adjust and forget the head cravings or the emotional ones of just years and years of ingrain habit instead they are all knowing and just preach to the new people and scold them like kids. I have seen posts on this forum what people eat in the first week out and yes I shake my head and say F’ing hell! But I also know each person has their own struggles and own ways of rebelling in frustration and own demons with food and its pretty safe to say self sabotage. You don’t get to the stage we are at and not have tried diets and healthy eating before this is a brand new way of life some learn quickly some take longer some have more issues to work out before they get it but throwing digs and coming down on people not at your stage or not doing exactly what you did just hurts the person more than it helps. Say your concerned say they shouldn’t do it in your opinion, don’t get mean and personal and snide it doesn’t help anyone.

    Numbness

I too am a lower back issue person and I am currently not taking any pain relief because I can’t take pills and the liquid blows its for toddlers so doesn’t do a thing so not worth taking just for the sake of it! From time to time my left leg goes numb like in bed not laying on it, it will be numb, sitting in a position for too long both legs will get numb like a nerve trapping or something. Right at the start my left arm and hand would go numb too not all the time just dead numb pins and needles but that has stopped now. It goes away so I am not worried oddly before the op my right leg would spaz when the nerve would trap this all seems to be mainly left side now. I think for me I do less active because I have no pain relief coupled with poor circulation from not doing things is making me numb up from time to time. It shouldn’t be anything to worry about when I went in for my op when I got on the bed they checked my positioning sitting me up and laying me down to make sure I wasn’t in a position that would effect my back or hurt it and he told me exactly what he was doing and why so hopefully they did that with you too. Just speak to the doc about it, it could be as simple as not enough fluid.

    Will I Lose My Butt?

for me my boobs are deflating at a crazy rate my butt which was the last thing to gain weight is still there lol i was alwas big boobed and massive belly not much junk in my trunk the closer i got to 400lbs and more the bigger my butt got. my family and friends find it funny and say i will be flat chested with a big butt now instead of flat butted and big boobed!
  22. I don’t know about any other uk person but we seem to be told different things for pre and post op diets. Like for instance your all over the protein shakes pre op we are told no such thing its 3 choices milk, meal replacement or food and right up till the night before you are told you can drink zero/diet soda. Then after you are told you can drink zero/diet soda as long as its gone flat. Me I was a cherry coke lover but I was also scared of becoming diabetic so I would curb my coke habit with zero. 2 weeks after my op when my mouth and taste buds were in full on rigamorties and dead I took a sip of zero swilled it in my mouth and felt that sucker come alive with sensation and taste! Since then I have had maybe ¼ of a can of flat cherry coke not even in one go I took a sip or 2 every night from a can in the fridge for 3 nights then tossed it out. I wish I could sit and drink my cherry coke over ice right now I am having a hard time drinking and its hot but it I am not. I get the carbonation thing is bad, but really I am new to this forum too I have seen people post they are eating cake and ice cream 9 days out all kinds of bad crap as far as being bad after the op goes a little diet flat coke isn’t so bad imo and no mine wasn’t diet I went full fat cherry! Just saying personally some people can jump on you it’s a learning curve to change habits of a lifetime people do silly things op was a bit rude too but people are told different things and don’t need to be jumped all over for speaking on the subject.

    Sleep Apnea...question

i had a nose mask not full face but not the pillows first mask was bad second bad 3rd was comfy all gel padded didn;t leak, then they tried me on the nasal pillows HATED that was the much better one on your head and face but for me it made me open my mouth like i couldn;t breath with the air directly up my nose so i went back to the gel mask. it really all depends on you and how you are i am a nose breather and i am funny about my nose feeling blocked or pushed on even my glasses bug me like i feel my nose is being pintched so the pillows didn;t work for me lol

    Sleep Apnea...question

Sorry I was also going to say I think you need at least a month of it because you have to learn to use it, your body adapt to it, know if it’s the right pressure and the right mask and you in yourself know if the position you are sleeping in means the air is going in your stomach or lungs. If you wake up and feel burpy and gassy then its going into your belly and you have to adjust your sleeping position by either elevating your head or lowering it, it all depends I sleep on my front with my head up so I never had the issue with air in my stomach.
