So I am on the tail end of week 12 post op coming up to my 13th week and today I managed to eat 2 bites of steak! (about 1 tablespoon) I brag because food has been hard for me everything other than fish and some turkey mince has killed me and made me sick! Mum made everyone steak for dinner and I thought ok try a bite see how it goes…. It was good it feels a little heavy but thank the lord no puking and bad bad pain like when I tried beef casserole 3 weeks ago! Not that I will be eating steak everyday but just a little smile on my face that maybe finally I am at the stage where I can start reintroducing meat into my diet and not just be eating fish because its all I could handle! So I say woop woo! lol hope this is an ok place for this post!

Lactose Intolerance After Surgery
sassypants replied to Sherry77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m lactose intolerant anyway not just because of this I use lactose free products like milk cheese and yogurt. You just have to look out for milk sugars in things that’s what disagrees with you, so you don’t have to switch to like soy or anything you can if you want (but I find it kinda yucky) I can have some normal stuff in really small amount like if I run out of my milk I can have a cup of tea with normal milk or if I want some cheese and its not mine I can have it but if you try too much or everyday your going to suffer for it. -
i have twice! it was good but just about a tablespoon of it each time

One Month--Quantity Of Food Question About You
sassypants replied to Marty McSkinnystein's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me I can eat 1oz at a time if its soft maybe as much as 1 and half or 2 like yogurt but if its more solid no way plus it takes about a hour to eat that! The one time I put 4oz of chilli in a bowl I still had some over 6 hours later it’s a little pathetic at times lol Your not meant to starve yourself, so if you think your eating too much just call the nurse or nut and ask them they will tell you if its ok. I think you have the choice too of 6 small meals or 3 larger meals and a couple of little Snacks or you can cut snacks out its how you want to eat the little and often or bigger and not so often. Honestly I would rather be able to eat more than this little its very time consuming and I am sick a lot because i can’t hold very much, can’t even drink a full cup of tea in one sitting lol -
Striong Women And The Topic Of Sex....
sassypants replied to Queen of Crop's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Read all 3 for me the sex was dull and shes so annoying that she cums all the time every time on cue blah blah Its not really kinky exciting or risqué sex it’s a bit of tying up and spanking so I would skip the sex a lot 8 or so pages of blah bored me. I did like the story didn’t think it was too bad but honestly do not get the major hype over these books I only read them because I had read 22 books had none left and my sister already had all 3 recovery was a bookfest for me lol -
One Month--Quantity Of Food Question About You
sassypants replied to Marty McSkinnystein's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me personally no and I can’t even eat a slice of toast and a egg in one go right now at 13 weeks! I do think you have to not force food in but not wait till your hungry to eat you should eat at set times waiting till your feeling hungry (which you won’t) can make you try to eat more and then be sick. I posted this the other day it might help you and know that not all sleeves are the same size even if they take the same amount away -
Spontaneous Vomiting, No Relation To Oral Intake
sassypants replied to Isobella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’ve had that talking a lot dry mouthed just gag a bit then it turns to dry heaving, wake up dry mouth gag start dry heaving. For me it was nothing soon as I sipped on a drink I was fine, if your worried call the nurse and ask her if they are worried they will have you come in and be looked out. -
I’ve not been out to eat at all yet no clue how that will work when I finally do! We also don’t really have the take home thing here in the uk its pretty much if you don’t eat it its binned, so eating out and picking steak is so not ever on my menu again lol Upside to taking home steak if you have a dog they are one happy pet! lol

That’s sucks! I was a massive steak fan before the op not fancy sauced up steak just how it comes meaty steak but everything was killer even chicken it wasn’t as hard but 1oz of chicken even takes me about 3 hours to eat! When I tried minced lamb (don’t like roast lamb or anything its too fatty for me) pork and beef it all was so painful and I puked 1min later then felt the after waves of pain for a couple of hours so I just didn’t try to eat red meats again till just now! Maybe it’s the cut of beef or how its cooked? Hopefully you will get to grips on beef! Thanks to the other 2 it’s strange the things that make you go haha yes now lol

Where You Ever A Naysayer?
sassypants replied to SleeveandRNYchica's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not me I always said if it come down to it and I got to the point where I had to do it I would. About 100lbs lighter than my highest I was going to have the one weight loss thing not listed and that’s the ball they put in your stomach for 6 months its non evasive it takes up 3/4 of your stomach and pretty much has the effect of a smaller stomach but max length of time your allowed it in there is 6 months. Then I messed up my back and some other stuff happened and I packed on 70lbs in 5 months then some more so it wasn’t really a good idea and something more drastic was needed. -
Im Not Ashamed But Need Help Coping With Questions I Dont Want To Answer...
sassypants replied to LorenaVaca's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the reason some co workers ask is they think you have a bad/long term illness when you suddenly lose weight so they ask out of both nosiness and fear like oh my god if she/he’s off for 6 months for a bad illness then what! If you have said you are fine not to worry they should take you at that and let it be. My best friend is currently pregnant and you can clearly see she is but no one has asked and no one will ask because they by law are not allowed to. She has told her direct boss she actually told him Thursday and said do NOT tell anyone, if people start coming up to her or other members of staff say her boss said something she can sure them. No work place NEEDS to know anything if your not taking days/weeks off sick all the time and its not effecting your work they need to keep out of it. -
Full Liquids Fill Me Up- How Do You Get All Protein In?
sassypants replied to jennrus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can put some protein powder in your soup, blend it with a little milk a natural one and add it to creamy soups if you have them (its kinda gross with non creamy soups) I don’t know what you were told but I wasn’t expected to get 100g of protein in every day to start with I was told try and get in as much as you can between 50-100g a day but don’t worry. Water wasn’t my friend so I drank decaf tea a lot still do and flavoured water but check the labels on the flavoured water some are nasty buggers full of crap. I was one of the people told fluid intake was far more important than protein for the first few weeks. But yeah you do feel like your constantly drinking taking a med drinking a med drining drinking drink when you move on its then the waiting between eating and drinking too lol If you can stand like hot water with lemon in it try that warmer drinks tend to go down easier, if I liked hot water I would have sipped on that instead! Just do what you can do and don’t feel you HAVE to do what other people are or were doing at the same stage as long as your doc/nurse/nut are ok with how your going you will be fine. -
I don’t do facebook so no it’s not on there but everyone knows from family friends boss to my hairdresser lol I just come back from the hair dressers as it goes and spent the hour talking about it I was 91lbs heavier last time they see me and nice for me he said my hair is in much better condition lol Due to my ibs before surgery I was losing a lot of hair because I couldn’t absorb vitamins the sleeve has cut me back on what I take and as a result my hair isn’t falling out in clumps! (not yet anyway lol) It’s a bit hard to hide you losing weight when you start at over 400lbs and you have been big your whole life. Also not one to hide it its a lot easier people not trying to cook for you or give you food and drink when you visit them they know I take my own stuff and everyone is pretty interested in the process and how I am coping etc they love the little details!

How Do You Keep Low Carbs?!
sassypants replied to KikiCC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Out of interest what were you told? For me I was told low carb and fat high protein but I was never told how much of anything I was meant to have. Like I wasn’t told less than 40g carbs or how many calories I was meant to have per day just the protein I was told to try and get between 60-100g of protein a day and of course I was told protein first. But that’s it I wasn’t told anything else as far as guidelines and how much of this or that I have to have. -
How Do You Lose Weight... I Mean.. Where Does It Go? Pee It Out? Sweat It Out?
sassypants replied to WLJourneyJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body uses the stored fat as energy, think of it like this your body breaks down the stored fat cells as its needed by our little intake of food this goes into your blood stream for your body to extract and use as the fuel it needs to run. It breaks it down and uses it as your blood pumps everywhere you’re taking the fat in it and processing it in the relevant parts. If you eat the wrong things like high sugar and carbs your body keeps the stored fat or uses less because its running off the sugar/carbs and doesn’t need to use your storage for energy. We still eat and we still drink so we are using the bathroom but stored fat isn’t used like food, stored fat has already been processed by your body broken down and stored into basic energy cells so most of the waste and junk was already taken out of you in the form of waste. Back in the day people would naturally gain weight in colder months leading up to winter so over winter when food was harder to come by the body used the stored fat to run off that’s what we are doing now with this sleeve. -
That sounds like bile I would call someone nurse/doc and tell them. Bile feels like bad acid and sicky and burning and tastes awful! Anyone who has had gall stones knows this well its painful and gross. Bile can be orange yellow or green (gall fluid makes it more green) I can’t say whats causing it that’s something you need a medical professional to deal with don’t be scared just better to be safe than sorry and let them know and have it checked out. Could be as simple as flu or a bug but better to know than worry over it.

Are you eating solid food? Or more solid food? That’s can be hard I had to go back to softer mushie food because I couldn’t handle solids yet. You might have to take it a little more easy, chew much much more and be slower.

they did have answers for me after i told them off lol i was just really P'ed off they didn;t warn or give me things to stop it before hand like i read all over this forum, or that i was told to take the wrong things that had me in alot of pain. its not like this has never been done and they know it happens so to not pre warn us or give aides or tells us what to take and me go through that i was beyond mad at them! thankfully (touch wood) it hasn;t happened to me since i worked it out with simple prune juice! the issue with the gp the hospital doc sent a detailed letter on what i can have whats not allowed so i don;t speak to people who have no clue and i can get a appointment within 3 days now if i need it!

Just wanted to have a little rant about my extremely shitty week! I think my family has heard me go off about it one time to many so the www can have it too! Tomorrow I will be calling my nurse and pretty much either biting my tongue from screaming at her or screaming at her, I feel like I have had the op and just been booted out and ignored frankly! It has been a build up of things that just come to a head this week and I am over it! I have a couple of other medical issues not related to weight that I am also dealing with without all the details I can’t see my gp nor will they give her a message to call me back a random doc keeps calling me back not understanding what I can and can’t do or take because of the op. So I have been given 2 lots of pills to take 3 times a day – can’t take the pills not allowed so its annoying. My appointments for follow ups after the ops have been cancelled or moved so I can’t even see anyone for almost 3 months! My first follow up appointment I raised issues about eating and going to the bathroom she told me it will be fine don’t worry! Well its really not I can barely eat any kind of food even soup I am puking up, tea shake its getting worse and worse and this week trying to go to the bathroom was so bad after 5 days capsules the doc told me to take even though they were big and painful I took them because I was in that rock and hard place position and a whole bunch of other stuff (not sure people want full details lol) I was shaking hot sick and about ready to pass out I called my nurse left a message as I was told it was a 24 help line I waited for a hour in major pain and trying not to cry mum and friend ready to take me to ER I was so bad. So no call back I did everything in my power to clear myself and thankfully after another hour a whole hell of a lot of pain I did. I was left a message the next day telling me not to call after 5pm as they leave at 5- no concern about why I was calling no call us back no nothing just a pissy message about not calling after hours! Now honestly I am too frigging scared to try and eat solid food again! Also in pain in that area after this week and yes did some damage can’t take anything for it coz I have no clue what I can take and can’t speak to anyone over the weekend. I am just so over no one knowing what I am on about if I try my gp because my doctor is unavailable and is the only one in the practice to deal with bariatric patients. Also sick of fighting my friggign gp’s every time I try and get my repeat prescription of fast tabs or the calcium tabs I have to take I have a copy of the paperwork I know they e-mailed it over stop telling me I am wrong! I am over the hospital not getting back to me when I have a problem not listening to me when I raise concerns and not telling me it can happen or telling me what I can take for it! I mean I am not the first uk person to have it done so surely they KNOW! Just needed to rant so hopefully I don’t go to mad tomorrow morning or when I am at hospital for something else on Tuesday I don’t go to there department and kick off!

I had one on day 3 funnily enough they give me this little cup of what looked like white glue I asked what it was they said a laxative I said oh I went 2 hours ago, they told me to still drink it, it was gross. I wasn’t too bad for a while not every day or anything then second week in july worst experience everrrrrrrrrr! I won’t TMI you on the details but get some prune juice! I have been experimenting with it, how I am if I drink half a glass daily how I am if I don’t drink it how I am if I do every 2 or 3 days. Before you go the enema route try prune juice and get a packet of glycerine suppositories it could be as simple as the prune juice maybe a little more in the suppositories and if it comes to it then use the enema kit. I kicked off big time over my issue about the gp being crap and telling me to take things I am not allowed etc so I was told I can take the following f it happened again: Lactulose but if your lactose intolerant you may not want this (which I am) Movicol Psyllium Husks Thankfully I have never been at that stage again and my prune juice does the trick if I am a few days without. Hope that was some help!

Sleep Apnea...question
sassypants replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do what I did wrap the back in cottonwool so it doesn’t dig and cut into your neck, plus you don’t need it as tight because the cottonwool will add padding and mean you need it a looser. I would do the middle and both sides of the lowest strap because mine cut like a sob it was soooooooo much better! -
I had the choice too between bypass and sleeve I decided the sleeve and it turns out my doc said I made the right choice due to other medical issues like ibs and the fact I already was on a lot of vitamins as I have a very hard time absorbing them naturally from the ibs. If I picked bypass I would have had major major issues with that. I didn’t like the idea of moving intestines anyway the only appealing side to bypass is it being reversible if needs be and you only reveres it because of what it does if you can’t absorb enough and end up getting sick and under weight they have to reverse it. Here in the uk this is how they are ranked smallest people do lapband sleeve is second on the scale then its bypass then it’s the duo switch thing the 2 stage wls. A lot of hospitals will push for the bypass because (and I was told this by a female doctor in my deciding stages) they don’t want to have to redo the op for bands or sleevers in a couple of years time because some people don’t change their eating habits and get big again. So they go for bypass because of the mal absorption thing and dumping that makes you sick if you try and eat bad stuff. It’s a tough decision and only you can decide what you want for you I knew from the get go I did not want the bypass at all may hair was already falling out I was already on vitamins I was already puking and having issues eating food I didn’t want to triple the effect with that surgery but that was my personal choice for what fit me. I did look them both up just incase but this was better for me. On my surgery day there was a woman being changed form the bypass to the sleeve she actually started as lapband then had bypass and that day was being sleeved as none of them worked I know why but that’s her personal medical issues so I wont post it. There is a lot of medical jargon on all of them doctors who would rather do one over the other will tell you negative things on one and positive things on the other they try and sway you. You really just need to sit and think how you want to be after, yes we take vitamins but its not as many as bypass we both have small stomachs after but they work differently. I think you need to read around on both forums the good stories the bad the issues people have and see what you feel would work for you or what you could cope with if it comes down to it. Either side who had positive results and easier times will say theirs is better so have it, its your choice for you. Good luck!

Calcium "horse" Pills
sassypants replied to CoolBreeze's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am prescribed adcal- D3 effervescent tablets I take them twice a day. Its calcium and D3 together, and they are a nice lemon flavour too! Even when I told calcium before the op I took a D3 vit because it helps your body absorb the calcium.
