The Stuff They Don't Tell You

Oh yeah the flood of hormones sends you la la! Its up and down and side ways laughing one second crying your eyes out the next its really crazy stuff! Several points I was watching or reading some funny stuff and laughing so hard I started to cry laughing which then just turned in seconds to me sobbing my heart out and I have no idea why then you start laughing again. Thankfully that crazy flood didn’t last too many weeks with me maybe at a push 3 then back to normal me. On another not I wasn’t catheter and I went just fine 1 hour after my op soon as I got on the ward and changed into my clothes I went and used the bathroom then zonked out in bed, had no problem going for the whole time I was in there 2 days on iv 1 off and drinking.

    One Thing Doc Said Today.....

For the most part I agree with the follow doctor’s orders thing. I see some posts on here where some people will switch the post op diet stages or what they were told to do or not do like starting protein shakes a week earlier than they were told too because others are doing or not doing it, for me protein shake was considered a full liquid so I wasn’t personally allowed them till stage 2. For me I feel its wrong your medical team have all the info on YOU- blood work, tests results, saw inside of you, know how big your stomach is now, if there were complication other medical issues, they know your relationship with food if your emotionally attached to it or use it or addicted to it etc etc So for me I did as I was told and wasn’t swayed by posts I read here or what others said to do at what stage. The first stages you are meant to go through I think you should follow your personal medical teams advice once your past that and back on solid food then yes you can take tips and advice from other people because your over the healing reintroducing stomach phase and it won’t be harmful to do something too early any more. I personally think when some are trying to help they are not at all they are just saying hey it worked for me so you should do it because it will work for you too! Not knowing anything really about the person and all because they had the sleeve and are further out.

drink prune juice i swear by it i don;t take any other kind of anything to help me go now just prune juice over ice. if its been say 3 days and no go prune juice! after my couldn;t go for a week pain taking meds etc etc i drank half a glass every day for a couple of weeks to help that never happen again now just when i feel i need it if i am not going on my own.
  5. Your pre op diet isn’t about weightloss not the 2 week pre op diet before surgery its to shrink your liver it’s a completely different thing to a loosing weight diet to reach goal to get the green light for surgery and its different to the post op loosing weight diet. This one for 2 weeks is just for shrinking the liver don’t jump on the scales and keep checking yourself out its not for weight you will just go crazy trying to make the scale move when its not for that.

    Mac N Cheese

I don’t like mac n cheese but I have had cauliflower and broccoli cheese since the op just a few spoonfuls for people wanting the alternative to pasta. You can make your own cheese sauce with milk and grated cheese/s that you like and do it I just steamed the veg then poured over the cheese and baked had my little bit the rest of my family had the rest for dinner.

So these on sale really pretty shoes arrived and no my feet are still as long as they always were lol i don’t think my shoe size will change mine are not wide or fat they are just long buggers! lol

About 10 days after is when I went flat out not propped up my loads of pillows and folded quits I have 2 body pillows so had one either side of me to cushion when I tried to sleep my normal way I was fine did it that way till I was 8 weeks out then moved them back to just prop my leg and elbow on. I sleep with body pillows to support my leg to help my lower back and hips.

    Milkshake?

No one started out by even asking what kind of milkshake. I typically think Protein shake on this forum when someone says shake or milkshake not automatically full of crap make you fat shake. For me they are never on my list for a different reason I hate them! Don’t care what flavour type made out of they are disgusting its all I can do to drink these Protein shakes everyday! They were never on my list before and wont ever be now but that’s personal taste not diet choice. But you can make a healthier milkshake look for sugar free flavour mix use semi skimmed milk maybe throw in a banana and some blended ice to make it thick and creamy. A milkshake doesn’t have to be ice cream/cream and sugar loaded or however they make them things. My take on the in moderation vs never again it’s the same thing, personal choice and what works for you, what works for you may not work for me and vice versa. Now if you pretend it’s in moderation and it’s actually not and you just lie to yourself to explain why your knowingly eating not so good choices too many times a day/week that’s when you start to slide back into old habits. Like a in moderation person may eat 3 pringles they wanted them had 3 that’s it done not just for the day but say for that week that’s all they needed. The person lying to their self will eat 3 pringles 30 times in a day and say well I never ate the whole tube in one sitting like I would have pre op I ate them in moderation just 3 at a time! There is a difference between responsible moderation and lying to yourself to explain away why you are doing something.

    Tall Sleevers? 6'?

i was a G I am now a D in the space of 3 months lol for my clothing size I was day of the op finding it hard to fit into a uk 38 which is a us 36 so major top end of plus size I can now fit in to a really crazy amount of sizes like 28/30 jeans and fixed waistband pants are fine so 26/28 us size pj pants a size 24 so us size 22 they are bigger anyway pj pants but yeah its kinda odd how clothes are on my now. The inch thing between the 2 pictures I posted I lost 9inches on my waist/belly may I was 65inches july 56inches, over all from my highest weight and size till I last measured I have lost 21inches on my waist/belly at my highest I was 77inches. These are differences I notice I know where its shifting from by measuring my body. I do calf’s/calves (whichever one isn’t a animal LOL) thighs butt belly then public line up to the top of my belly to see how big the belly bulge is boobs and upper arms. Oh to edit in I write down the monthly measurements in the back of my food log just to keep a record of that.

    Tall Sleevers? 6'?

I don’t find it slow or slow to show either I don’t constantly check myself out in mirrors or anything and honestly I don’t do the weighing myself thing they told me not too and frankly I don’t want to so when I go to the hospital or gp they do it about once or twice a month its always down I am 106lbs down as of last thrusday so to me its good. When I check my measurements its always down too so for me that’s all I need to know. I do know clothes are looser sometimes I thank heavens for draw string waistbands I mean you slip on a pair of pants grab loads of stuff and go down 3 flights of stairs to find your pants are going down and end up around your ankles is highly amusing! Yes that has happened to me a couple of times thankfully just in my own home but yeah I kinda like that lol Just pull the drawstrings even tighter to keep them up lol I saw your question on skin for me I have some on my upper arms which was really bad but I do hand weights for them every day and noticed the skin tightens and if I flex I can see the muscle pump. My inner upper thighs suck! And again I didn’t have big legs really bigger yes I wasn’t a pear I was a apple and pretty much was all belly boobs and back so the inner thigh thing is like pff! Backs fine the backwings aint all saggy and odd (not yet anyway lol) And only the very bottom of my belly is a little looser, boobs suck I can fold them and if you grab the skin and pull it settles in a wrinkled peak lol Oh I can fold my belly LOL if I lay on my back I can fold the bottom up to the middle lol I do strange things like stand and wiggled so my sister can see my inner thighs flapping about to just laugh at it or wedge my boobs under my armpits and walk in the room to look flat chested lol

    Tall Sleevers? 6'?

I’m 6ft and I feel ya the I am 180 and having the sleeve peeps make me think holy F! 180lbs is nearly 13stone for uk peeps and with our height would be like a size 10 which is skinny so I know what you mean for sure lol These are a couple of my compares 29th of may and the 29th of july that was about 80lbs difference between them dates. I only do pics and measurements on the 29th/30th of the month to see what’s changed.

    Where Can I Get Weighed?

I know in my local swimming baths there is one that goes up really high when ever we would go on holiday we loaded the car with the cases dragged them in there and said can we just use the scales to weight these 20p a pop checked the baggage weight and left. I don’t have scales either and don’t intend to get any this whole jumping on the scales everyday or several times a day is not good and not a habit I want to get into. Both my docs and hospital have many scales more than capable of going to even my highest which was 425. Maybe there is a gym or some sort of local centre you can go where they have scales big enough to hope on and check maybe fake it with a suitcase then do yourself too.

    Grocery List?

I suggest making your own broth you pretty much make a big pot of soup and drain he broth off into containers/bags etc freeze most of it and keep out a couple of days worth. This has a good upside the broth you make you know whats in it no extra added crap and loads of salt, and the meat/veg that’s left in the pot you also portion off for the pureed and solid food parts of the diet. So your not constantly reheating broth what I did was get a thermos and put a full days worth in it and have it with me it was a lot easier.

    Smoking After Surgery

Good glad you feel perfectly ok laying guilt on someone for making a life changing decision and telling them that they shouldn’t have bothered and for saying more people should bash others for slip ups or mistakes it speaks volumes to me. I have no personal guilt and you trying to lay some on me won’t work but thanks anyway! I was defending others who most of the time won’t speak up. Maybe you do have guilt as you are defending your posts just as much as you say I am. Either way I wasn’t only talking to you. In any case I am not getting into a massive argument over it I have said all I have to say take what you want from it what you will. I am off to smoke a cigarette, have a good evening!

    Smoking After Surgery

No this isn’t my question I wouldn’t ask a question about smoking I spoke to my consultants about it and I have all the info with no scaremongering about it so I am good thanks. I am not bashing op at all just reading several smoking threads it gets annoying and builds up till i feel the need to say something.its no wonder people freak out when they smoke given what they read being told they wont heal and get ulcers it’s the same with coffee drinkers they all post and freak out when they drink it or want too. Not everyone cheats no I know this but drinking isn’t healthy either no one bashes people for that but smokers oh my god! Telling someone they should second guess having the surgery because they smoked a cigarette is really bad in my opinion telling them basically they shouldn’t have bothered to get it if they smoke disgusts me frankly. This isn’t the only thread things like this have been said to smokers and no one says anything about it the smoker/s back down and say yes yes you are right well no no you are not! You can say you don’t agree in a nicer way without chastising the person and saying they never should have got the op its belittling in my honest opinion. This is a weightloss tool let people deal with that/ get a handle on that and how we eat and drink now before they choose to stop doing other things. This is a hard enough process as it is there is no need to make people feel guilty/bad whatever for things they do. I feel the same way when people post nasty comments to others who eat or drink something they shouldn’t, there is no need to judge people to that degree.
  18. You can say you’re having keyhole abdominal surgery that’s what it is, that’s also how gall bladder surgery is described same for appendix etc

    Smoking Pre-Surgery

Just tell them then its up to them to decide or be prepared in OR. I was never asked to stop and I smoked right till the op well the morning of the drive to it. They need to know if you smoke because you can throw problems in the OR like needing different or more medication to keep you under etc You can bleed more so they need to know and you can also take longer to come around after. They need to know for oxygen levels in your blood so best advice is to tell them and let them decide if the slip up was too risky and they push it back or if its not too much of a problem and go ahead with the op with all the information and any problems it might kick up while in the OR.

    Smoking After Surgery

For all the smokers out there I am gonna say something on our behalf. We the bad bad naughty smokers bite our tongues on this subject a lot never daring to say they still do because we get told off any time its brought up or we admit we smoke still. We get told we never should have got the op if we are just gonna keep on smoking. Well to be frank its utterly annoying to constantly hear! People cheat all the time on the new healthy life people keep going on about and bashing smokers with. they drink coffee/tea/soda eat candy/ice cream/chips/fast food/slider food, they don’t work out they don’t take meds they drink alcohol and the list goes on and on! But everyone comes down on smokers like we are the antichrist for daring to not give up or if they do for picking the habit back up. I didn’t have my sleeve to stop smoking I had my sleeve for my weight problems that were effecting my health, it has nothing to do with me smoking my sleeve was not because I wanted to become a vegan health nut who was a purest and only lived a green healthy life. I had my sleeve like pretty much everyone else as a tool for weightloss. I was never told to stop and still aint now. You don’t know a persons smoking habits it could be 1 a day or 500 you take in more crap form car pollution a day than you do if you smoked 1 cigarette a day so anyone jogging out there in the road suck up a nice lung full of smog while you do it. I smoke roughly 20 a day out of anyone’s interest with an extra filter tip I add on and the lightest you can smoke 1mg of tar 0.1mg of nicotine and 1mg carbon monoxide in each cigarette. Yes I am annoyed and no I am not feeling guilt for smoking if I did I would never post I do smoke I am actually smoking while I type this! I am annoyed the smokers are jumped on by everyone but other smokers (and I don’t mean ex smokers) and spoken to how they are some times by some people. This isn’t a quit smoking forum or an antismoking forum give it a rest!

The Stuff They Don't Tell You

I think these problems although freaky sounding on comparison to pre op problems are nothing at all. For me I have posted in the final straw thread my back and knees were so messed up the weight on my body made it so I was pretty much housebound unless someone took me some place in a car and at the destination I could sit the whole time. I had really bad ibs I was puking and instantly going ot the bathroom with painful cramps with just one mouthful of food. The ibs actually had me on my very own mal absorption diet my body just could not retain Vitamins and I was eating them by the handful every day. My hair was falling out due to that too, I had sleep apnoea and I was externally unfit and it winded me to just walk up a flight of stairs. I outgrew even the biggest size clothes available in the uk. And some other stuff I keep to myself not high blood pressure or diabetes though but people have these problems. So to have the op and for me ibs be gone actually only on 2 multi vitamins a day my hair has stopped falling out and is way better now yeah most people it may fall out from the op mine stopped falling out from the op lol no more cpap or sleep apnoea for me, ok my right knee and back I still have issues with but 100lbs less on my body means I can now do more, it used to be 5mins and i was in pain now 20mins can go by before I have to sit and let it settle and go by. So for me things tasting sweet not drinking as much as I should eating a little amount of food at a time and it maybe hurting is nothing compared to how I was before. You just consider the pre op lifestyle and everything people say here and if you would rather have these issues or the ones you have lived with (if you have them) not everyone is sick etc but yeah it’s a possibility if you can deal with the stuff listed not just in this thread but all over this forum for ok if it allllllllllll happens to me can I deal then you will be ok its your life only you know what you can take and deal with or not. No I don’t regret it for me, at my highest weight I was 425lbs and no way of being able to exercise or even diet it off how my ibs was I was in a starvation mode and it stored everything I put in that it got to keep a little of. and these same issues were making me pack on more and more weight. Would I tell other people to do it? Honestly it would depend on the person, health issues and weight.

The Stuff They Don't Tell You

This may just be me, but I sleep on my front and I go to sleep on my side front so the right side of my body is pressed to the bed. Well I have to smooth out my night clothes and hike up the waist band of my pj pants above my stomach because all the wrinkles or gathers in clothes feel like fingers digging me. Its odd I have no gall bladder less fat and less stomach in that area now so it’s a bit hollow and I can feel that much much more! Its not a bad thing just a odd thing I notice and some others may notice too!
  23. i don’t think I have 10 but I have 1 or 2 that I can’t drink much! Like its such a chore to drink Water is still not good and I really kinda hate drinking tea, it feels nice but I never was much of a tea drinker so drinking 4 cups a day really annoys me would much rather a ice filled drink even if it was water but I just can’t handle lots of it even when I force myself it takes me hours and hours to try and drink 1 pint of room temp/cold/ice cold anything. Yeah I think drinking is my biggest pet peeve I don’t really have others not being able to even do 4oz at a time doesn’t even bother some pain doesn’t bother me any more not being able to just chug down a drink really bugs me! Its warm I am always dry mouthed and just want to chug something other than decaf tea and it be ok!
  24. i was still in liquid stage ate 2 weeks out week 3 is when I was told to go to full liquids not even pureed food. I followed every week as they told me and still by the time solid food come around I had a very hard time so was told to go back a few weeks and work my way forward again. Your stomach takes 6-8 weeks (sometimes more) to heal you should follow what you are told to do and don’t go by what other people did or tell you to do, listen to your medical team who have all your notes and know what’s best for you. It gets boring but in the long run they are telling you to take the stages in order for x amount of time for a really really good reason.
