Your opinion counts....... but maybe not.
sassypants replied to gohelpyourself's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first got sleeved there was so much hostility around here I stopped coming I only started coming back recently. People were giving lectures on everything from eating habits drinking working out getting personal it wasn’t very nice. I spoke up a couple of times backing people who were being jumped all over because i was sitting here getting so mad at things I was reading I had popping veins I swear lol I never ever try to be a know it all because frankly I am far far from it to be the oracle on this subject at all. when I do post I personally tell my experience and things I suggest or can think of without it being do as I did (well I hope I come across that way anyway!!) Now this next thing I am going to say may actually get me a crap storm for saying it but oh well lol I think some people replace the old bad food habits and addiction with a new healthy one and the new one is how to be as healthy as can be, which by its self is totally fine but pressing it on others because they researched 1,000 hours of food nutrition and what works for them isn’t for everyone. We all have to find our- I will repeat OUR way to do this how WE change our habits lifestyle and what works for us, I love reading everyones stats what they do how they eat that I am not alone in this like a alien but I really don’t want anyone telling me I am bad/wrong/gonna fail/have crappy doctors/nuts/don’t eat right/don’t work out enough etc etc etc because I don’t do exactly what they are doing it. I know what I signed up for when I started this we all do, sharing and some advice is helpful when asked for but that do as I do thing really isn’t. -
Almost six months out, weight loss has stopped!
sassypants replied to dandeegan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
reading all the posts i believe you may have a bigger sleeve meaning you started with a bigger stomach to begin with so you have more room. this you have to be careful because you will be able to eat more and this will have repercussions on your calorie intake stored fat burning and weight loss. i am the opposite i have a little sleeve i can;t even eat 8oz of anything almost 2 years out! Also wondering if feeling hungry is down to boredom of being laid up with your foot? I personally don’t eat carbs with meals like rice Pasta potatoes I know I can get carbs from veg or Beans instead so that’s what I personally do. my suggestion would be to look up how much you should be eating per meal on average for this far out (honestly I have no clue I can’t even eat 4oz in one sitting so I don’t know at all) and try to reduce the carb portion per meal or eliminate it altogether in most of them, switch for beans or a replacement extra veg instead that kind of thing. yes we do need carbs but the right kind of carbs is better and less likely to be stored as fat cells which is what we are going for. if you do have a bigger sleeve and are still feel hungry look for next to nothing options as far as calories go like lettuce and such to take that hunger away. interestingly my sister watched some tv programme that said when we are thirsty it feels like hunger so we eat instead of drinking so maybe try a glass of Water or juice if you still feel hungry then maybe you are but that’s ok you have some low cal food options to deal with that. This is just a set back a revaluation time its going to happen its how you move forward that counts. I say it over and over as I AM a firm believer in a little of what you fancy does you good, if you want some junk and crap have some but don’t over do it an don’t let it become a daily habit that’s when problems occur and weight steadily creeps back on. but we all have to workout how to eat this includes booze and “bad for you” stuff not just the good things. Good luck don’t be discouraged! -
my butt bone HURTS! (tailbone pain post weight loss)
sassypants replied to LyndseyD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain – literually! I just got 2 coccyx cushions because I was messing up my back and hip more by leaning on either side to not sit straight on it. It helps that little cutout and gap between my tailbone and the seat is so much better. I got 2 because the first one I got pretty much flattens so hoping the second one that’s coming is a much higher density foam to not squash as much. My physio also told me it was a good idea as it also tilts my hips to sit right while taking the pressue off your tailbone. oh btw i was padding my butt with cottonwool just to have some padding but that was getting silly with a massive wad back there lol -
I personally wouldn’t risk it for 2 reasons 1. your stomach is really not ready to digest that kind of thing you can get a bit stuck on the staple line then get a cyst and cause all kinds of damage along with it again just not being ready for more solid food. 2. it may seem nice but at the time of doing it but 1min+ later you could experience what a lot of us did in the actual mushy and beyond stage which is a lot of pain sweats feeling like you can’t breath right and instant puking- when I say instant there is no warning you just puke. Not very romantic or pleasant to you to go through that on a nice night out. But that’s my thoughts on it.

fast tracked and fearfull
sassypants replied to wynblade's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had a original date for august 2012 was like omg its happening ok get my head around this! mid april I got a letter saying your op date has changed its may these are appointments for group sessions blood work doctor appointments blah blah had a massive holy s*it moment it was like it slammed me in the face and was so quick! It all felt rushed I was scared even on the actual day all gowned up in my bed in pre op (I was the last of the day so a 6 hour wait) I almost walked out and went home if it wasn’t for the fact my mum had taken all my clothes and stuff home with her and wasn;t coming back till I was done I would have lol You wait and wait think your ready but when its time it shakes you down to your core because it’s a big deal a complete change of life after. But honestly its so worth it, all of it the pain, the mental head F, the puking, the burping its all worth it for the quality of life after and all the changes it brings to health etc -
Drinking water after operation
sassypants replied to joydenstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why thank you! I don’t calorie count at all I just keep it smart healthy and small in portion size. After reading what I would call a months worth of info if its added up hourly on everything I didn’t feel the need to do that. Like I said if I feel like something I have it in a small amount and if I can a smart choice. I love to cook and bake I am a frigging great baker hasn’t stopped me I still do it just not as often and I know whats in everything I bake so smart choice. You know like quality street? Not sure you have them in the us lol but its like a tin of single mixed chocolates. I took about 2 handfuls of them christmas 2012 popped them in a bag and kept them in the fridge in my room (yes I have one in my bedroom that I keep my drinks and stuff in lol) Christmas 2013 I threw out what was left which was about a handful or so and that’s 1 year later. I figure the more we say no, nope, don’t, can’t the more we want it then maybe it ends up being way more than we would have had if we just had that little bit in the first place. Anyway completely changed what the thread was about sorry! lol -
I have eaten them not often and I go for brown whole wheat ones they are less omg blugh I rarely do a carb with my meals but I have done like chicken veggie fajitas and that requires a wrap (well it doesn’t but yum! Lol) I do peel away the access wrap from the top and the side though it takes abut a hour to eat sometimes a little more but I can eat 1. Its real simple too all I do is marinade the chicken stripes in: 1 tbs worcestershire sauce 1 tbs cider vinegar 1tbs soy sauce 1 tsb chili powder about a clove of minced garlic a liberal shake of garlic powder and onion powder about 2 tbs of lemon juice the veg stripped red, orange, yellow pepper, thinly sliced red onion, spinach and of course shredded chinese cabbage that I just stir fry in chinese stir fry oil. Switch out stir fry the chicken then you can add the normal sour cream etc if you want I have added stripped cucumber and cherry tomatoes for the hot and cold crunch mix. Though I like to spread a thin layer of mayo on my wrap instead of sour cream.

From the album: me now
pic taken after a family party 02/02/14 I could of smiled though LOL -
i loveeeee Carmelized Onion Hummus loved it before and still now dont do plain hummus ever any more! i am a massive fan of spinach and chinese cabbage I chop that up in everything stir fry, casseroles etc whatever a veg goes in I add it lol pretty much any veg is good for me I recently found a lentil bean spinach curry recipe loveeddd it (we have all the spices to hand always in the cupboard so its easy to just make a curry if I find something I like lol) so after the first time I then made enough to freeze 6 batches of it for the family half with lamb as it’s a earthy taste and half without. I can link it too its off that site lol Only I added red, green, brown lentils and I put whatever Beans I like din it always have tins of beans and never just put one type in anything. You can also add other veg if you like of course http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Spinach-Red-Lentil-and-Bean-Curry/Detail.aspx?evt19=1 also like to make these sesame parmesan zucchini I de seed it as the seeds can be bitter a lot of the time and no one likes that http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sesame-Parmesan-Zucchini/Detail.aspx?evt19=1 made these and actually used them to eat the lentil curry with lol like a veggie cracker if you will broccoli parmesan fritters http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2012/06/broccoli-parmesan-fritters/ make this a lot too I tend to now make a massive batch again and bag it up and freeze it easy to digest and its good hot or cold in the lettuce http://www.spoonforkbacon.com/2012/01/chicken-lettuce-wraps/ I made these but used roasted red pepper pesto instead though I like all 3 pestos my mother is not a fan of green normal pesto lol I also egg washed them and planko coated them with some garlic and onion powder in the planko for flavour http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pesto-Cheesy-Chicken-Rolls/Detail.aspx?evt19=1 these are some of the things I like to do..

Protein shakes- Which are the best?
sassypants replied to SleevesUp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm in the uk and the one i settled on is PhD Diet Whey i only like the chocolate orange and i use hazelnut milk so its not just choc orange has a better flavour with the hazelnut milk. they also do orange cranberry and lemon ready to drink juice drinks. -
as stated many a thread on this so i wont bore you with a repeat of my horror story lol I drank a glass of prune juice a day for about 6 months after my never ever again incident! just wanted to point out morphine also makes you constipated thats why i always refuse that as a pain management option as you can’t leave hospital after a op without having a bowel movement in the uk so I always refuse it lol

Drinking water after operation
sassypants replied to joydenstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it might curb it all on its own as when i say sweet i mean SUPER sweet! i have to watch when i am cooking because i was going heavy with the salt and herbs to curb it to my taste buds my family were like its nice but very salty! i was a complete cherry coke junkie before had well coke over all i didn;t want to get diabetes so i mainly drank zero normal coke they only started doing zero cherry here recently. i would drink a 2lt bottle of coke a day sometimes more like in summer after the op disgusting to me i have had the old coke here and there but its painful and sickly after a while so has really smashed that habit to bits! Last time I had a coke was the 2nd at the family event in a pub so watered down crappy kind and I didn’t drink all of it my sister drank half and I still had some left after 5 hours lol Once you come out of the retraining and recovery stage you will find your taste for things changes. If not you can satisfy that urge with smarter choices. Sweeten things with honey make your own stuff etc Me I am a carboholic bread potatoes rice and chips bread and chips being up there in my drool state lol I don’t eat rice Pasta or potatoes at all every day not even weekly its not in my diet at all I had a cube of roast potato on christmas day lol Can’t do bread much 1-2 bites feels like someone threw a seed in my belly added Water and it puffed up to max so I only ever do bread when we go food shopping and get a French stick I will pull the end off and snack on it in the car on the way home. As for chips I have them Pringles mainly and will have like 3 or 4 when the urge takes me a tube can last 3-4 weeks. Let me tell you time of the month when I just want to eat chip sandwiches is tough lol I personally don’t think never touching A B or C again is good for you so if I fancy something I have a little of it not every day maybe not even once in a week but I will have it if I want it. Just be aware sugar free stuff for diabetics might not be the right choice in sweet I have a friend who is and that stuff is like a laxative lol -
that was eggs for me in my mushy stage i made a soft boiled egg had half a teaspoon of the egg white and puked it up on the floor in 5 seconds flat then proceeded to dry heave like i was in the exorcist who was trying to bring up all my internal organs! i tried 3 months later same thing so egg has been off my list ever since!

Appetite at 18+ months out?
sassypants replied to DaniCan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i never feel hungery at all everrrr never have had hunger pangs. i actually have to remember to eat and my sleeve is a tricky little thing at the best of time! so no change for me as far as hunger goes i can eat a bit more per meal and without puking about 7/10 times which is more than 6months ago. -
i personally think the whole alcoholic thing is 2 fold, one if you have food issues i think its easier to swoop one addiction for another using booze as the thing you now use. Say if you were an emotional eater food is no longer the pick me up booze is and becomes a issue. Also my second theory on this is if you are a very social person going out to eat has issues its hard to deal with, costly for what you can eat, you might puke, there may be pain etc etc etc so you have drinks instead. which can become a hell of alot if its always drinking. thats my take on it anyway

Oddly emotional post op?
sassypants replied to Ariella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
its a combination of it being just highly emootinal to have the op anyway its actually phyiscal too. when your body starts using the stored fat cells for fuel it also releases allllll the stored hormones within them too which floods you making you go up and down all the time. -
Wondering if anyone stayed home alone right after surgery?
sassypants replied to trudyjo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was pretty much alone my mum waking me up at 6am to jab me with my anticoagalante shot i had to do for 10 days after i was discharged, 2 new theroses one of tea one of soup and off she went. she works till 8 and is in bed at 10 so not alot of time inbetween for help. wasn;t allowed to bath and could only wash down for a certain amoutn of time what i did was put garbage bags over a chair as its fabric that was put in one of the baths and i would just sit on that to wash then eventually shower. i had major back knee and hip issues so standing even for 5mins wasn;t a option for me. if your up and about you don;t really need help, if your not really up and about you can do things to make it easier for yourself to still not need anyone. if you would rather not have him stay you can work around it maybe get 30mins of help a day from someone rahter than a houseguest. -
Problems With Conception Post-op
sassypants replied to KhadijahRose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
you should be fine once your body gets to grips with all the extra hormones, its like your jabbing your self with them every time you lose weight so it throws everything out of whack. part of why I was approved for this op was because I was being tested for womb cancer and I was coming up borderline on every biopsy when I told them I was in the process of applying for wls they told me this would help me greatly as the only treatment is to flood you with hormones and hope it reverses the mutation of the cells (which are actually starved of what they need to be healthy when you don't have periods or produce the right hormones at least 4 times a year) and if that doesn't work its a hysterectomy as once its turned full blown if hormones don't help then nothing they can do and its aggressive. I know about the hormone release from the stored fat cells due to that issue and dealing with it before and after the op! I am fully normal no mutations healthy and was 4 months after the op with my own stored hormones doing the job instead of them injecting me with them. also explains the mood swings in the first few months of the op again something not told to us lol -
Those are some stories! Lol I guess it's all about trial and error, I hope I can handle wine n maybe a beer eventually, those two are my weakness lol you know your gonna be told beer is carbonated and you shouldn;t drink it lol my mixer of choice is coke mainly or lemonade for vodka but well we know vodka is off my list now lol just be prepared to burp like crazy when you have a beer lol

What's Your Supplement Regimen Look Like?
sassypants replied to KhadijahRose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I take: when I wake up: 1 A-zinc multi vit 1 1000mg cold liver oil 1 10,000mg Biotin (for hair loss) around 10pm: A-zinc multi vit 2 x 400mg B complex (prescribe by doc) 1 400mg folic acid (prescribed again) 1 10,000mg biotin 1 40mg D3 vit (prescription once again) 1 1,000mg cold liver oil I take my fast tab before I go to sleep (waking up chocking on acid is bloody nasty and scares the crap out of you trying to breath!) and one in the middle of the day. I should also take Calcium but its a effavesant that I just keep forgetting to take sometimes I need a Iron boost which when I am having dizzy spells and tired all the time they just give me a blood tests and the 3 day pills to jack it right back up to normal. I also drink 3-4 Protein shakes a day 35g of protein per shake as food is kinda hard for me still I top up my needs with more shakes -
I'm in the uk so no insurance to know the cost or pay anything it was done on the nhs all free for me. how it works here is you are referred by your gp then you g to the doctors they do all kinds of assessments on you then apply for funding on a medical board if you are approved you then attend classes and groups and more tests given a date and bobs your uncle.

Problems With Conception Post-op
sassypants replied to KhadijahRose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
for me I had none at all for over 7 years once I had the op and my body was flooded with stored hormones from my fat cells it triggered them within the first month. they were spotty sometimes 2 in a month some times long heavy ones it was like my body was making up for lost time lol they also moved around a hell of a lot its only been the past 4 months that they have settled down and I could set my watch by them. you might be having interruptions to normal due to all the extra hormones being released into your body and its just trying to process them and settle down and get back to normal. -
This may be in the wrong place so if so please move it! I just wanted to do this post as food for thought (oh yes picked that for a giggle lol) I think a lot of us try to “run before we can walk” with this surgery. I know I read for days about others both before and after my op what to expect at what stages how I should do things how I should eat etc etc I did freak out on a few things puking pain etc So what I want to really say is this STOP lol Its great to see what others do and how their journey is going but it seems the second we are home it’s a worrying stress fuelled time. Not drinking enough, not eating enough, pain, lbs not going fast enough, Protein, meds the list goes on and on. And in the first few weeks worrying about what you will be able to eat in 4 months or 6 or a year. For me when I stopped comparing myself to others and going by my own body I felt better. I read a lot of posts about people weighing there self more than once a day every day. This is not good for you it becomes a obsession- no joke people were stepping on the scales before and after Breakfast then later in the evening constantly watching the scale to see movement. Me honestly I do not weigh myself at home only at the hospital or doctors I personally do not want to become obsessed with the scale it can be very disheartening when you don’t see movement. If I have ever stalled I have never known about it because whenever I go I am always down from the last time so I never have experienced the feelings of that myself which suites me fine. Pushing the Fluid intake even if it hurt or taking protein when not told too. Follow your own medical teams advice on these things I wasn’t told to introduce Protein shakes for 1 month after my op I asked about the liquid ones he said I can if I want as its not milk but I am healing and not to worry just yet. Being told the general food/drink capacity is another we are all told this much at this stage this at this but end of the day your sleeve may not be the same size as mine. Mine is small more wasn’t taken away the same 80% as every other person having the op I just happen to start out with a smaller stomach to begin with so its smaller. After the op we can have sleeved stomachs ranging from a 4oz-10oz holding little thing that’s a VERY big size difference and it all depends on the size of your stomach before the op. The bigger sleeves are not even meant to test or push to see if its bigger and go by the recommended portion size regardless of it being bigger to actually lose weight. I know I try to be careful with advice yes I still give it but I don’t say do this or that this is what you should do as I did, I say what I did say I have a smaller sleeve and do what your told or your body feels is right for you- just be a little responsible with the advice and not do as I do replies. To sum up before I go off on a major what the hell she saying tangent don’t try to run before you can walk- don’t try to heal before your able to, drink more than your body allows be it food or Water, willing weight off wont help it will come. This is a day to day process for at least 2 years it gets easier of course you listen to your body and know what you can and can’t do/tolerate. To get to the end result you HAVE TO walk first and listen to your body and work out whats best and right to fit you. Anyway thanks for reading if it helps anyone I am glad I stood on my soapbox!
