My surgeons office called...I was approved by my insurance company! Yay!!!!!!!! Now it feels real, I'm getting sleeved on the 22nd. I'm doing my happy dance!

iggychic, I laughed when I read your post! I had my psyc exam the other day and passed so I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. lol The exam was easy. The doctor seemed to want to make sure I had a good support system and no eating disorders. She asked a bunch of questions and sent me on my way. I Glad to hear your healthy and on your way to having surgery. Hope you're scheduled for the 22nd like me!

My doctor submitted everything today and I checked with the insurance company and they received it. It's pending. How long did it take for approval with others that have the same insurance. I already have a surgery date and I can't wait to find out if I'm approved!

The first thing that comes to mind for me is not being self conscious all the time! I also can't wait to enjoy going clothes shopping and wearing cute clothes, playing outside with my 3 year old without getting tired, going on vacation and wearing a swimsuit without shorts and a t-shirt over them, and being really active and doing fun things with my hubby!

Good luck with your appointment! I'm crossing my fingers and toes 11 lbs is enough. I can't imagine they would put off surgery for being 4lbs short!

I'm 200 now and I'm 5'1". My goal is 130. I picked that # because I remember getting down to 135 a long time ago and feeling really comfortable at the weight. I took off 5 more lbs for good measure. I'll see how I feel when I lose the weight. I would even be thrilled with 140 at this point. I can't wait! Exactly a month to go!

QOTD-How/When did you decide you wanted to have bariatric surgery? Why did you choose the sleeve? One of my best friends sister is an ER doctor. She knew a couple of nurses that did great with the band and suggested it for her sister. My friend is about my size and has had similar issues to me losing weight and gaining it back and then some. I have a 3 kids. My youngest is 3 and my middle son is 15. He is disabled. I want to live a long healthy life and be around for my kids! Cancer runs in my family, I have arthritis in my back and knees and I know taking off the extra weight will reduce my risk of cancer and take pressure off my joints. Also, I'm tired of being heavy and want to look better! I feel frumpy at this weight and can't wait to go shopping for new clothes in a smaller size! I decided to look into the lap band for myself. I did more research, discussed it with my gastroenterologist and surgeon and the sleeve just seemed like a better choice for me. I didn't want to have to deal with getting fills and I kept reading so many stories of people having problems with it and revising to the sleeve. My surgeon also said that at 44yrs old I could count on having to get another surgery if I got the lap band because despite the fact they're supposed to be permanent they don't last forever. I really don't want another surgery. I'm so glad I changed my mind. I'm so excited to get the surgery. I'm happy in the other areas of my life and need to get this in check.

I had my endoscopy this afternoon and the anesthesiologist was surprised I was having sleeve surgery. She said she didn't think I was heavy enough and most of the people she's seen that have it are heavier, and why am I having it. I know she probably didn't mean it in a bad way but it kind of made me feel bad. I've thought about this a lot, done a lot of research and my BMI was 40 when I started looking into this. I've already had to defend my reasons to certain family and friends. (Only my family, my mom and sister and a couple of very close friends know) I didn't think I'd have to explain myself to a doctor that isn't directly involved in my decision. Ugh! Anyone else go through this?

I know everyone's doctor is different. I agree with everyone though. I would stay away from the bananas. The diet the nut put me on so far is 1 protein shake for breakfast, lunch 3oz protein + veges, dinner 3oz protein + veges and a salad, I can have 1 fruit a day + non fat plain greek yogurt or low fat string cheese. I got a list of the protein shakes I can have and they're all low carb, low fat, high protein. I see the nut again today and I'm afraid she's going to change my diet to 2 shakes a day and dinner. I'm losing my carb cravings though so at least that is good.

I like the EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control chocolate flavor. I get them premade and they have them at BJs and probably Sams for 26.99 (or close to it) for a case of 24. I ordered samples of Unjury too but only tried the unflavored so far in Crystal lite. It was pretty good.

QOTD- what diets have you tried before eventually deciding on the sleeve??? Did any of them work for you?? I've tried: Weight watchers (at least 20 times)-l'm a lifetime member...gained it all back. Atkins-lost about 20lbs numerous times Jenny Craig slim fast All vegetable diet (forgot the name) xenedrine alli

QOTD: I have a few rewards for myself planned. lol New Skinny wardrobe and trip to either Hawaii or Carribean! Also would like to go back to Disney again next year and see how it feels to do all that walking 70lbs thinner! Depending upon how I look after I lose the weight a tummy tuck and have my arms done. I had 3 c sections so I have a feeling my stomach isn't going to bounce back easily and my arms have always been heavy even when I've lost a lot of weight in the past. I'm going to get some great exercise this morning. A tree fell in my backyard, crushed a big umbrella and fell into the pool. Lots of cleanup to do with my husband...fun fun! iggychic, lol to fishkill. When I first heard that name I thought the same thing! Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm 44 and am a mom to 3 kids, 3 dogs and 2 cats. I'm getting sleeved on August 22nd by Dr. Weiss in New York. I was origionally planning on getting banded but after talking with my surgeon, gastroenterologist and doing more research feel that I'm better suited to the sleeve. I'm counting down the days till surgery. I want to get healthier, make sure I stay healthy and keep up with my 3 year old. And did I mention I also can't wait to look hot...or at least semi hot.

Thank you! After talking with my surgeon and him telling me how many revisions he's making to the sleeve from the band I was convinced this was the best decision for me. Good luck to both of you too!

Congratulations on your surgery. It sounds like you've got a great attitude! Thank you for being honest and not sugar coating your experience. I've also had c-sections and my gall bladder out. How does this surgery compare to a c-section as far as pain? Which do you think was worse. I'm being sleeved on 8/22 and just want to prepare myself mentally.

Oops, I'm so used to saying banded because that is what I was origionally planning. I Sorry about that! I've got to get that word out of my head. lol

After my surgery I'm hoping to hit the gym again and actually get my moneys worth for my membership. My three dogs are also looking forward to my surgery. I promised to take them for some nice long walks!

Thanks Audrey, I'm getting banded through tri state bariatrics with Dr. Weiss. I live in Putnam County, 5 minutes from the Westchester County border. My surgeon is in fishkill and Middletown but the actual surgery is in Port Jervis which is far from me but I've heard good things about my surgeon so I figure it's worth the trip! Where are you getting banded? I saw you were a special ed teacher. I used to be too and taught in the Bronx for the board of ed.
