Here is a site that talks about the 5 day meat test. Initially, it was a bit tongue-in-cheek in that the folks behind it do not believe in a reset (5 day pouch test) type mentality. Instead, high Protein (dense) and very low carb for a few days. I am not that extreme personally. I did have a period of weight gain (went 10 or so over goal) and currently 15 under goal. I am not an ultra low carb advocate, but protein and green leafy veggies is my mantra. Some fruit, but only what is low on the glycemic index. Good luck-

How did you research your surgeon's background?

If you check the OH boards, they have patient reviews of the various docs used. www.obesityhelp.com is the site. -

Teachers? Where Are The Teachers?

I went back unofficially today, and saw 4 staff members. All of them were floored. I "only" lost about 15-20 pounds since school let out, but it must be hugely noticeable given the reactions today. I am down 125 pounds overall though, so if they are comparing to that then there is a huge difference. To the above poster... i also teach 5th grade and was losing a lot last year. The kids really didn't say anything. I did chat about how I am working on the weight so i will not imbibe on birthday treats so as not to offend any of them. They quickly came up with the suggestion that I raffle them off and the class super enjoyed that all year. I won a major award last year that had a big assembly involved so even the young students send me treats... thank goodness the kids came up with the raffle idea because that stuff sitting around is too tempting! But through it all the kids never talked about it to me other in the context of the raffle and warning the parents to not include food gifts at the holidays and end of the year. 5th graders are wonderful! -
I originally set my goal to be a bmi under 25. I have lost 118 pounds and currently 13 pounds away from this goal and in my 7 month. Goal has been a funny thing. Honestly, I never thought I would get that close prior to surgery. Once I lost about a 100 pounds I felt like even if I stopped losing the process was already worth it. Now, I am pretty sure I will want to surpass my initial goal. I feel so much better at 207, but I am pretty sure 10 more pounds will not be that noticeable. Consequently, once I hit goal I am choosing to continue following my plan until I hit a weight that reflects more where I want to be. I am just not certain where that is at the moment! One step at a time though, next stop is goal

Teachers? Where Are The Teachers?

5th Grade teacher about 6.5 months post surgery. I told no one at work and had it done over the Christmas break. Without a doubt the significant weight loss is noticeable. I just tell them diet and exercise (true). I am open about high protein because they see me with shakes all the time, but generally kick out the vibe that I don't want to talk about it.
