Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call
Velena replied to newgrandmother's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 16 days out. I've started on phase 2, soft food but I've also had numerous dumping incidents. I am still trying to eat by sight. I see a small portion and my brain tells me its fine, not too much. But my stomach soon tells me differently. I am working on eating slower and paying attention to my stomach, not my eyes. Eggs are still not my friend, however refried beans are heavenly. Just today I got to eat more than 3 or 4 bites before I was full. I mean, before I was full after 3 bites to the point that licking the spoon sent me running to the bathroom to throw up. -
Does Anyone Not Like Their New Look Once Loosing Their Weight?
Velena replied to slatter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little worried about it. I've been obese for 30 yrs too. I have absolutely no idea what I will look like. I'm also worried about sagging skin and wrinkles. But this is for my health, I have too many comorbidities not to do this. So saggy skin or not, hopefully I'll be healthier & happier. -
I was sleeved on Sep 5th. I've lost 20 lbs but I've noticed repeatedly that I have Sharp pain in my left breast. There are no incisions near there, and it is worse when I sleep on my left side. Could this still be gas in my system?

Good luck newgrandmother!

I started out slow (with the protein shakes etc not wanting to go down well) but I feel better every day and I've finally gotten all of my protein in today (5 days Post Op). I went to the mall with my daughter this afternoon as a way to walk around. That was fun. It doesn't hurt to walk or move, but I'm still using some pain meds daily in order to keep the liquid intake up.

Not Eating And Gaining...
Velena replied to jessfharris's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry that your going through this! Please, if your insurance covers it or if you can afford it, see a therapist to help you work through your depression and issues. They can really help you to work things out. There is NO stigma with needing extra help at a time like this! You don't have to try to do this alone. The right therapist will give you tools to work through your depression just like the surgeon gave you the sleeve as a tool to lose weight. Please consider it, you're in a very fragile state physiclly and emotionally right now. -
Sleeved on the 5th, I'm going to be seeing my doctor tomorrow and hopefully starting full liquids instead of just clear liquids. I can't wait. I have had some hunger pains but they were easy to ignore. I had some gas pains too, they weren't so easy to ignore. Also they were very noisy. I got tired of bouillon, so I made chicken noodle soup and strained it so I just had the broth left. It tasted much better than bouillon. I'm still taking pain meds a few times a day, it's getting easier to get the liquids down, and the shakes with water are better. I still feel everything I swallow going down my esophagus, hoping that will change eventually. Walking hasn't been a problem, moving around in general hasn't been a problem either. Good luck to all of you yet-to-be sleevers. Keep us posted on your progress!

I have the exact same experience with the swallowing. I feel every sip go all the way down my esophagus and I don't dare take more than a sip because then it hurts all the way down. I wonder how long this lasts! I don't feel empty inside but I do feel hungry. I even have stomach growls like when your stomach is empty. I can usually ignore them fairly well though.

What Did You Name Your Sleeve?
Velena replied to pretty-pink's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
"skinny Minnie" aka my sleeve, is much more tempremental than my stomach ever was. I used to think I had one of those cast iron stomachs, could eat anything that didn't run away fast enough. Certainly has changed now! 4 days post op and skinny minnie is relutantly accepting protein shakes (4oz) with water. And I feel everything I drink going down my esophagus. Skinny Minney is the thin, bit*h that I always knew lived inside me. She's OUT! -
I was sleeved on Sept 5th. There was some pain involved, but it's hard to describe, mostly felt like hunger pains gone wild. I was dehydrated yesterday, I didn't realize how much the pain was keeping me from sipping liquids. I was only able to get about 7 oz in all day. I'm feeling much better today, I've been up for an hour and I've already had 7 oz. Pain is gone, some lingering gas pain but i can walk that off today. Feel much more human today.

wow, I've been struggling to get liquids down, still haven't had a protein shake and this is my second day at home.

Sleeve Post-Op Experiences?
Velena replied to Kris10b's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had to go to the ER yesterday, for dehydration. Now I SIP water whether it hurts or not. -
I just got sleeved Sept 5th and I'm afraid of the post op diet. So far it's been hard to keep sips of water down, and each one hurts like crazy. I'm on this diet for 2 weeks, maybe by the end of the time period I'll be drinking better.
-
I'm still having trouble getting any water in. I tried putting protein in it but that was a mistake. so I'm back on water. Painful in my back when I drink. I'm hoping that everything gets better as each day goes by.

I was doing fairly good this morning. I blew it tonight. I took some nausea meds and totally forgot everything anyone has ever told me and I gulped 3 mouthfulls of cool water with it. That hurt so BAD! And of course I immediately threw up which is just what I wanted to do with my new sleeve. Be careful newbies!

Sleeve Post-Op Experiences?

I got sleeved on Wed Sept 5th, it's harder to adjust to than I thought it would be. There is more pain involved in sipping liquids than I expected. -
I'm through the surgery, now just waiting to go home. Everything went well. I'm sore but not as bad as other surgeries in the past. Definitely remeber to bring Oasis or Biotene for dry mouth. I was out of it a lot yesterday but everytime I woke up I used the mouth spray. It was extremely helpful.

Good luck. I'm in the waiting room, this is the hardest part.

Good luck tomorrow!

Tomorrow Surgery Gasx Strips
Velena replied to ljperez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to be at the hospital tomorrow at 5:30 am. I should be thinking about sleep but that's not going to happen. I'm scared, nervous and I've got doubts running through my brain. Is this really what I have to do? Can't I just keep on the liquid diet for the rest of my life? Maybe a personal trainer and liquid diet for the rest of my life... -

Tomorrow Surgery Gasx Strips

I found mine at Walgreen. Good luck! I took the magnesium stuff too, disgusting. Nothing yet but I'm starting to hear some gurgles. I'm packed too, do you have the biotine mouth spray or oasis for dry mouth? I found that at Walgreen's too. -
I had Mexican: Chicken and Beef Fajitas and refried beans, and a little guacamole. Delicious.
