Looking For People Who Have At Least Two Years Out..regrets?
bakawaka replied to MrsM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have a relative who had the lapband and that relative now drinks milkshakes every day and is regaining weight. I'm not yet sleeved. I have anxieties about regaining weight. I am inspired by CLK's post about the fact that our stomachs will never be able to hold the same amount of food again. Also, the sleeve (in theory at least) eliminates or reduces the part of the stomach that produces the hunger hormone. Yes, I'm scared of regaining weight. But I am going to go ahead and try the sleeve. And if I regain, I will go for gastric bypass. Even waiting on surgery has made me think differently about eating. I am much more aware of how I eat too much at every meal. I wish you and everyone else with the VSG the greatest success. It's a journey. -
I must state that I also am afraid of anesthesia. My mother almost did not wake up after surgery due to a reaction to the anesthesia. It's simply a risk that I have decided to take. But I have to say that surgery without anesthesia is even worse.

Pre-Op Liquid Diet And International Travel
bakawaka posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i have to travel internationally during the pre-op liquid diet phase. do the liquid diet protein shakes come in powder form that can be mixed in water? Packets that contain powders that are mixed with water can easily go through the security checks at airport. But if they are literally cans of protein shakes, they will have to go into my checked baggage. So here is the question: is it possible to find protein shakes for the pre-op liquid diet that are packets of powder that is mixed with water?- 5 replies

Pre-Op Liquid Diet And International Travel

Thanks so much for the tips and the link to TSA site. Have you had any difficulty bringing ready-to-drink shakes going through non-US security? I travel a lot to Asia and Europe. Have you experience any difficulties there? -

bakawaka replied to Shape_Shifter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I habe a BMI of 35. I am pre-op. Losing weight slowly does have some advantages. 1. better opportunity to tone skin and miscledbthroughn exercise to lessen the issue of loose skin. 2. hopefully lower risk of gallbladder issues. I actually do not havea goal weight. My goals are to lessen the probability of diabetes, get off high blood pressure medication, get off lipitor, reduce cholesterol, reducw the risk of heart disease, creae a foundation for higher quality of life durig agig, and reduce the risk of cancer. I do hope for a better appearance, but my main goals are beter health. I also hope that weight loss, however mich it will be, will give me more energy to be active and to exercise. I am hoping to overcome my.love of sugat, butter and carbohydrates. even if I love only 30-40 poinds with the vsg, i am hoping to keeping it off, instead of gainig it back every time. I am hoping to lose around 70-80 pounds. It will be interwdtig to see what happens. -
Trying To Find Protein

Hummus can be a great substitute for mayonnaise on low-carb bread for sandwiches. There is hummus at Trader Joe's (I do not have a financial interest in Trader Joe's or any hummus company) with and without tahini. There also are many flavors. -
I do not have any financial interest in a tofu company.

biotin also strengthens nails

I found biotin capsules at the vitamin shoppe

Crazy Vsg Questions
bakawaka replied to DeterminedGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a relative who had the lap and a few years ago. Today that relative drinks milkshakes daily. I know personally four people who had the bypass. Two regained back all of their weight into two years because they went back to old eating habits. The other two maintain their weight loss through exercise and careful attention to their diet. I do not personally k ow anyone who has had the VSG. I will have the VSG in November of this year. I am highly aware of the risk to regain weight. Even today, months before the procedure, I am paying close attention to how I eat. I do know that the risk of regaining is there. This forum is helping me to understand better the types of changes to make with the VSG. -

This search on Google can help: tofu recipes ("low fat" OR "low calorie" OR healthful) Also, you can puree tofu in the blender along with some splenda or equal + Water or milk + fruit or Protein powder - even green leafy vegetables, such as spinach!. Puree it on the highest speed (I have a VitaMix). Add a few ice cubes and puree them as well. You have a smoothee. You essentially turntofu into a liquid. This pureeing technique works with firm, medium, soft and silken textures of tofu. I do find that different brands of tofu have different flavors. My own personal favorite brand is Mori Nu. You can order cases of Mori Nu online. But other people might find other brands to be better. Tofu always has helped me lose weight in the past. I hope that this information is helpful. -

Post-Op Migraine Medication - Drinkable Maltax
bakawaka posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sometimes get migraines. Today I visited my doctor to ask about post-op medications that can be ground-up/crushed or taken as a liquid. I usually take Immitrex for migraines. My doctor prescribed Maltax - he stated that Maltax can be mixed with water. So it will be my temporary substitute for Immitrex until my stomach heals enough to tolerate Immitrex. I have never taken Maltax and actually never have heard of it. I'm not a doctor. I have no medical training or pharmaceutical training. But I wanted to pass along this tip in case it is helpful for others who suffer migraines and who need a medication post-op that is not in pill form.
