TamaraS replied to andi0120's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I have a positive story for you:) MY good friend who has had the surgery was telling me about her good friend who had been a mentor to her. She was late 30's and went in for weightloss surgery everything went well but after surgery her nausia never stopped. After a month post op her husband brought home a pregnancy test on a "feeling" and sure enough she was pregnant. she had a super healthy boy who is now 6. I am sure you will be great, especially being 7 months out! Congratulations on your new gift! -

Final Answer On Water?

my R. D. also said it would stretch the stomach and fill me up too fast. I sure wish these people we are required to see for surgery would be more knowledgable instead of giving us all a bunch of different stories... -
I have been reading a lot about people increasing their calories for a day and then their bodies start releasing fat again. I dont know if its true but I have read it so many times I am starting to believe it! Good luck!!

Couldnt Do Surgery-Liver Size
TamaraS replied to SlevieNicks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my nutritionist said that the quick extreme diet and weight loss quickly shrinks the liver. I asked her if I should do the preop diet for a month and a half and she said its not necisary. Eat healthy and lose weight through a healthy balanced diet up until the 2 week post op. How bad your liver is depends on a lot of factors and could be worse in some one with lower weight too. I had a blood test and my dr. told me I had a fatty liver. -

I just had my first consultation this last Friday! I was so anxious and excited I could barely sleep the night before but the actual appointment was very basic, not at all what I had worked up in my head . I met with the surgeon’s physician assistant and filled out a lot of paperwork and discussed how the surgery was performed, length of time in the hospital (2 - 3 days), nutrition, she asked me some questions about my obesity history and current health problems, I took a short quiz and she also asked me why I wanted the surgery. After about 20 to 30 minutes she sent me to talk to the lady who deal with insurance and they sat me down and told me the requirements of my insurance. I have California Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal so my personal insurance requirements were to get primary doc’s approval, a tsh test, see a nutritionist and a psychiatrist and get them to state I was fit for surgery. Most insurance also want a 6 month doctor supervised diet although that was not the case with mine. As soon as I got out of the appointment to the car, I made my nutritionist and psychiatrist appointment. I just finished them both yesterday and I feel so relieved!!

Waiting For Ins. Approval? Call, Call, Call!
TamaraS commented on TamaraS's blog entry in TamaraS' Blog
Muffintop, how frustrating I hope that your Dr.s office gets back to you soon and gets you started in the process. Is your other option self pay? I have a friend who took 10 years to get this surgery but by her own choice. she went through orientation, insurance approval all of it and backed out every time. She finally went through with it January of this year and she has lost 150 lbs! She says her only regret wasnt doing the surgery sooner! -
I called my surgeons office making sure they received all my paper work and results from all the testing I’ve completed. I am so ready for this surgery and really want to know if the insurance will cover it for sure. I completed all of the things specified by my insurance but I learned that my primary Dr. never signed off on the surgery :/. I personally took the papers over to his office and the girl at the front desk told me he would sign them that afternoon and fax them to the surgeon’s office (and that was two weeks ago). I call my primary Dr.’s office today and find out that my Dr. will NOT sign off on the surgery until I get an EKG. I am pretty frustrated at this point because if I had not called I would have never known that my insurance request was not submitted. Not one person from my Dr.’s office called to tell me I needed to come in for this and it isn’t an insurance requirement so the surgeon’s office wouldn’t have known what the holdup was. I am totally for getting an EKG, just disappointed I was not told earlier. This process over the last three months has been a series of errors. My suggestion for those of you completing your requirements for surgery is to CALL, CALL, CALL! Double check and triple check your info is being received and what the requirements are for your insurance, your surgeon and your Dr. I am lucky I only had a two week hold up, imagine how long it would have been had I not called!!

BigGirl, I really hope that the upper GI issue is something that can easily be worked through and not affect you getting the surgery. that would be so upsetting. Let us know how it goes! -

SO there are protien pills but it looks like they can only contain small amounts of protein do to their size. There are 6 grams of protein in this chewable tablet per serving (serving size is 6 chewable pills) http://www.dietdirect.com/proteinex-chewable-protein-tablets.html. Hope that helps

I was reading out of the book the surgeon gave me while I was typing that! Im actually not sure if the protien supplement is in pill form or if they ment portien shakes. I will definitely look into it and get back to you Amanda

My surgeon recomends 1 week clear liquids, 1 week pureed diet, 2 weeks soft diet than from day 31 to 6 months the "regular diet" which is 2-3oz of meat 3xs a day, 2 oz fruit or veggies 4xs a day, 1 cup dairy 2xs a day and protien supplement as needed.

I actually dont . I called my surgeon's office to ask if they received all my paper work and they had except my Dr. wants to do an EKG before he will sign off on the surgery. Im super disapointed the Dr. didnt let me know this was a requirment on his part sooner. Im just glad I keep on top of it all by calling and checking in or I might have not known for months. They squeezed me in today at noon so I can get it done! I am really hoping they get my info over to the surgeon this evening so they can submit my request for surgery!
