30 Day Count Down Begins Today!

I recently got back from a two week tour of Italy. I probably walked a good five miles a day. Lots of steps and hilly terrain. When I got back, I helped my daughter load and unload a moving van. She took a new job as an ICU nurse in a city a few hous away. I got to drive the truck!!! At 4'11'' getting in the truck was a challange, but driving it was so much fun. This week I am taking it easy, just trying to play catch up at home. Back to the gym next week.

30 Day Count Down Begins Today!

I am November 12. Today I bought vanilla and chocolate protein shakes from Costco and a bag of chewable calcium. I am trying to do two shakes a day and one regular meal just to start training my brain. I found a lot of clothes in my closets that may fit in twenty pounds and hung them up. I take turns being really excited and really scared. There's not a word for excited and scared. Maybe "scacited" would work! How about you?
  3. My date is November 12 as well! I never thought of losing weight before surgery as the last I'll see of it. What a great way to think! I am getting nervous, but I won't look back. My family just got back from two weeks in Italy. OMG, those pictures are horrible. I do not want to spend the rest of my life being ashamed and humiliated by my size. I,m not worried about the Protein. I found Costco's Premium Protein Drinks with 30 (or maybe 27..can't remember) grams of protein and I like them alot. For hair loss, I am being proactive. I started taking Biotin twice a day last week. I figured it makes more sense than to wait for a problem. After surgery I plan on doing hot oil treatments every week or two. I've been drinking zero Vitamin Water as well as taking my Vitamins now. If I don't get low on vitamins and nutrients, stay hydrated and keep my protein up, I am hoping for fewer problems. Please keep in touch. I hope we both do well.

    Evidenced Based Medicine?

I've studied this for so long, I feel like an expert. There are a lot of people several years out who have not regained their weight. You stated the risks correctly, but I believe that weight regain is fairly uncommon with a sleeve. I sure hope I am right. Good Luck with your next procedure.
  5. OK. So we are all scared and this is likely normal. I just need to figure out how all of you are going to hold my hand cyberly (yeah, I know that's not a word). Internet hand holding. I' hold yours and pray for you as well.
  6. I got my surgery date today as well. November 12. I am "wet my pants" scared!!!! I am not going to chicken out. I keep repeating that to myself all day. Now that I've said it out loud (you can hear me, right?) I know I can't back down. . Some one reminded me that it's easier than other surgeries that I have had. Two c sections, hysterectomy, deviated septum. It will be just fine, right?

  9. I have a date! 11/12!!!!

  10. TAA DAAA! I have been approved!!!

  11. I certainly feel the same way as you do. I should get my surgery date when I return from my little tour of Italy. This trip has certainly made it loud and clear that the sleeve is the right thing for me. My feet are like little fat sausages from walking all day and my knees are starting to hurt. The tour guide keeps asking me if I am ok. She makes me feel handicapped. Oh, but I guess I am. I don't want to be and neither do you. Don 't let fear stop you. You will do so well. If your Nut. thinks your head is on straight, then it must be. Believe her! Ciao

    So Sad I Cannot Breathe

Susan, Thank you so much for asking. She is going with us and we are leaving tomorrow. She moves a couple hours away the week we get back and starts her new job on 10/8. She is, in my opinion, still fragile. I have tried to back away a bit. As soon as she starts telling me who stressed she is, packing for the move and for the trip, her voice gets louder and irritated. I just tell her that I don't have time to listen to her complaints but I do have time to help. And I will help. I am driving the rental truck! I'm 4'11'' (almost). I went to the U-Haul place to be sure I can reach the pedals. I hope the break from all the stress will help her and after her new insurance starts, she will get some medical help. I've gained a good three pounds through this. Grrrr.
  13. My 26 year old daughter is moving out of town. I took her to look for apartments and while we were looking she had some sort of breakdown in the car. Fear, frustration? I don't know what caused it. While she was sleeping, on the way home, my GPS sent me the wrong way, adding about 30inutes to a 2.5 hour trip. She totally flipped out. She screamed, yelled, threatened to jump out of the car. At one point, while I'm driving 60 mph down some country road she opened the door and threatened to jump. I new if she got out, I'd never get her in again and this was in the middle of no where. After a mile or so she closed the door but kept screaming and began throwing things. I had a hard plastic cup in my drink holder that she threw hard enough to break my windshield. I was so scared that I tried to call my husband for help. She took my phone and each time he called she hung up. I drove with my hand on the door lock for an hour to keep her from opening the door. I finally got back home. I wanted to take her to a hospital but I knew she'd never get out of the car. She told me if I would just drop her at her apartment she wouldn't harm herself. I did. She has since sent me a text that said to never contact her again. We are supposed to leave for Europe in three weeks for a two week vacation. She is supposed to go. I am heartsick. I've never seen her like this before. I am clueless what to do.
  14. I've researched the sleeve inside out and upside down. I've watched tons of video blogs on outube from sleevers (from beginning to end) and I've read as much as I can on this site. BTW, the people on here are awesome. The bottom line is that the sleeve is the only choice for me. I would recommend that you look very carefully, study all of your options and decide for yourself, but I am happy to give you a short list of why I am choosing the sleeve. 1. No malabsorbtion of vitamins and nutrtrients 2. no dumping 3. no messing with my intestine 4. no major war with constant hunger that the bypass people have 5 I can still take asprin and othe NSAID.
  15. My paperwork got submitted to insurance today. :)

Had My Sleeve At 61 1/2!

Thank you so much for this post. I am 61 and will be nearly 61 1/2 when I have my sleeve in November. The sleevers in my support group tell me it will be easy for me. I've had two C-sections, breast cancer and a hysterectomy. I have 100 lbs to lose. Aside from the usual reasons for losing weight (health, feeling better), my retirement has led me down a few paths with a media following. Thus far, I have been dodging the camera, but the spring has some television and newspaper events that I won't be able to dodge. I am the director of a nonprofit that will open the first dog park in our area, In addition, I belong to a philanthropic group that supports womens' charities in third countries. There will be a documentary (for our organization) made about the trip I will take in the spring to some Indoniasian countries to observe first hand the progress of our charities. If I had to present myself to the public as I look today, I wonder if I'd be so involved.

You weren't being silly. We all worry. We have so much hope, desire, time and energy devoted to reaching our sleeve surgery. It's just an intense time. Today I am worried that I won't get a surgery date until December. I have to (and want to) make a trip to Viet Nam in March. I am so worried that I'll be stuck traveling with my CPAP machine. Plus, when I get back, I'll have to present a video of the trip with my 5x5 (5 feet all, 5 feet wide) body filling the screen! I am so happy to hear you are doing well. I can't wait to hear about your weight loss. Tina
  19. I am still pre-op but I go to as many support meetings as possible. Tonight our surgeon came in to talk about some problems some patients who are a few years out are having. He said alcohol abuse is becoming a big concern. He said recent research has shown that 54% of bariatric surgery patients with no problems with alcohol have drinking problems a few years out. Several post op people confirmed that they knew post op people who drink a lot. Some people said that food addiction is replaced by drinking. This whole subject is food (no pun intended) for thought, don't you think? Have any of you heard this before? What else I learned is that bypass surgery is NOT for me. So may people in the room had bypass and they have big problems with hunger and cravings. The few people in the room who were sleeved didn't have those problems. I knew that the sleeve is what I wanted from the get-go, but this decision is reconfirmed regularly by what I learn along the way.
  20. But it was a small study done in Michigan, only 24 patients. That's probably not big enough to really be accurate.
  21. Hooray! You're home! ( and you didn't die ). I bet you are tired. Surgery is hard work. Just rest and drink your protein. I, and the rest of us here are waiting to hear from you. You are so brave to take this step toward better health. You should be proud of yourself. I am.
  22. I never hard of dry skin brushing. I went to the site TamaraS provided and read about it. Thanks, TamaraS. I learn so much from the wonderful people here.

Zebrasprinkles, you will be just fine. During the holidays you'll taste all those goodies and feel satisfied with just a taste. Then you'll turn around and see a more beautiful young woman in the mirror and feel even more satisfied. I am so excited for you that you'll take your place on the losers bench on Monday. I can hardly wait to hear how well you do.
