    Surprise Hiatal Hernia

I was sleeved on the 31st as well. I had a surprise hernia as well. I was in the hospital for 2 days and had quite a bit of pain, due to the gas - my shoulder was extremely painful - I didn't have much pain from the incisions but the gas was horrible. I'm home now and the pain has gotten better but I am extremely sore! Not just the incision but my muscles in my back are extremely sore - I guess from not being in good shape and compensating for my stomach muscles. I have been walking and it does help. I have not had any nausea and have been able to keep liquid down without incident. My husband will be having the surgery on August 14, so he has been a little apprehensive. Everyday is getting better and I am really ready to be able to stand straight and walk without pain.
  2. I have been approved for my surgery. I have let my co-workers and boss know so that they have enough time to cover my work. I work with several ladies and some are overweight, however, I am the fat one. When the word got out that I was having surgery, the comments were: Well, what am I going to do now, I'll be the fat one. I guess I'm going to have to go on a diet now. I can't believe you are doing this just not to be the fat one. I tell them that MY surgery has NOTHING to do with THEM!! I really wish they could at least try to be happy for me.

    Denied

I have Cigna insurance too. They denied me also (3 times) I went back to my PCP and he retyped the letter to include the terms Medical clearnance and he recommended me having the surgery. The coordinator with my Dr. office was very helpful in getting everything they needed. My husband is also planning on having the surgery and he was approved - and his letter didn't include any of it. You will just have to "do the insurance dance" and have patience - I am finally approved and have a surgery date of July 31, 2012... Keep the faith and don't give up!
