Pissed off and scared
NORCALRN replied to JeansBeans's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
oh believe me, i asked and they feigned that they did not understand and finally told me "to make you better". common sense i have but i was feeling so crappy and that was the beginning of my 15 month as of oct 2013 of ongoing complications. plus i have my bsn, phn. normally - no way would i let someone give me rx without knowing but my circumstances may have been different then others. that being said, oh, we did not have post op iv fluids.none- and still with j tube and l reiterate - bring your own meds, etc to JC in tj. not a bad place. just you need to know some info prior to choosing it. -

when i asked what i was getting they did not respond and when i pushed for info they got upset with me i speak a bit medical spanish so i pursued my questions. i would only suggest going if one has a medical background (to jer clinic) anyway hope all is well for everyone -

you should not take that antiobiotic at all. once an allergic reaction, you can continue to progress to anaphalaxis. seriously - get home and get something else and make sure you insist on something NOT in that family and make sure your home medical care gets it in the charts....you are ALLERGIC. I hope you feel better and get home safe.....keep posting please. and BTW, nothing i saw at jeruselum clinic was labeled at all. they just had a wad of 33cc syringes in their pockets and went to each patient. and we no post op fluids........hang in there. you will be ok. -

NORCALRN replied to EMSJen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hey jen good to see you on forum. i had my phrenic nerve irritated so i am told. it was the worst pain - nothing helped and it was weird pain. what about gabapentin? it is a good med and safe..let me know. i was just diagnosed with partical complex seizures today and started on lamictal. does it ever end?let me know what happens for you. trish -
again, we do not know what it like for those parents and if the medical community provided care that was inappropriate - that becomes an ethical issue for the hosp. staff to review. that is what ethics boards are for. if this kid did have PW syndrome- heck, the life ahead of him is a rough one, regardless if he wls at 2. i am a mother of a y/o son...so i can see how a parent can feel pressured to help but i just want to know the whole story and cnn is not a reliable source of news in my opinion!

prader-willi syndrome is a terrible diagnosis and those children cannot control their choices - they are always hungry. caregivers-families lock up food and go to extreme lengths to help. until one walks in someones shoes - i do not judge. we do the best we can with what knowledge and resources we have and sometimes that is limited. raising a child with special needs is unique. throw in PW syndrome - i can only imagine how difficult their choice was. i hope everything turns out ok.

Anybody have complications with Dr. Marema?
NORCALRN replied to Sheba's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i did not have your doctor - but just to let you know-i had severe complications (recently learning that i really almost died)....surgery in TJ. my kaiser here was great- no issues with taking care of me- surgeries, diagnotstics, outpatient follow up (still have j tube feeding tube).....so i have no concerns with my post op care and i am a nurse so i have high expectations of care even though i do not recall a lot of my time spent in the hospital which is a blessing i am told! so focus on the positive - you are likely not to be the 1%!!!! happy journey! -

Anyone develop pleurisy post op?
NORCALRN replied to anglicanchic85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you might be experiencing intercostal neuralgia which basically is the nerves in and around your ribs and breast bone are inflammed. this is similar pain to costalchondritis which sometimes people get after moving lifting push pull something and even if they cannot recall the event..it can hurt enough to send em to the er thinking of a heart attack. real pain and real fear, but benign event. once the nerves are inflammed it can take a bit for it to go away. monitor and make sure no fever not shortness of breath. pleurisy is something but that would interupt your ability to take a deep breath. i hope you feel better. can you take NSAID? in doubt please see your doctor. get better!!!!!! -
i had my sleeve in mexico7-24-12 home and 10 days later or so severe complications (7 weeks in the hospital and still wit a j tube (feeding tube). i have kaiser - live 30 minutes north of the golden gate bridge...KAISER WAS EXCELLENT! MULTIPLE ambulance transports, surgeries, home health care - i paid zero! i am sure laws differ state to state, but if you are an emergent patient, it is illegal to deny care. good luck with your decision. even with problem, i am standing here smiling happy with my choices!!!

moved from larkspur to northern novato in may. tried to return to work 8/12 (off for 13 months for workers comp - locked in hosp. cell at san quentin a bit ago). worked 2 days and freaked out back on wc. the j tube was not really a problem although not the cleanest enviroment obviously. good luck to my norcal sleevers. hope everyone is staying healthy and positive. with my formula - i have not lost the last 10-15lbs but i am ok with that. wearing 6 or 8 and large shirt (always have had big boobs! still a DDD but went from a 38 to a 34. enjoy the sunshine we finally have! -

one year ago today I was sleeved in TJ.!!! severe complications at home- then admitted for 7 weeks inpt with a multitude of problems. still have a jejeujostomy (feeding tube) but getting better each day. hope to return to work (RN) at san quentin state prison on 8-12-13! lets see how it goes......(subclinical leak, splenic infarct, hosp. acquired pneumonia, abcess on spleen to my liver, empenyma, etc. but here I am!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
compication 11 months out still with J tube/ need reassurance
NORCALRN posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hi looking for inspiration. had major complications. get 90% of nutrition via formula- J tube. as a nurse - looking for return to work date 8-12-13. 6a-2p mon-fri float - at san quentin state prison. major financial hardship so must return while i search out other employment. long story there too. i know i will get better. working on using pump at night so i just flush at work (no breaks) - anyway, would like some feedback on others who have struggled with serious issues. i had 65# to lose, 10 left......thanks to TPN and formula....anyway, feedback would be wonderful. thanks in advance. i will share the enormous struggle i went through last summer (7 weeks in pt). thanks ....trish -
thanks to all who have given me such strength with your responses and comments and support. regarding Kaiser, i did not qualify no comorbidities and needed to lose 65#. so that is why i chose self pay. no regrets. i had worked with and continue to see a MD who specializes in weight management - all aspects of support. she is my rock-my advocoate. today was a better day....one day at a time. the heat is hard on me. had a liter hung 3 days ago - as i made an apt for dehydration. no ER for me. i would have gone home if they did not hydrate me in clinic. anyway....thanks again everyone. remember - you all are amazing!!! trish

YEP,LONG HAUL. ended up 10 days post op with fever and left flank pain. no leak identified and was sent home only to have temp still. admitted for exploratory lap surgery, no leak but ended up with hospital acquired pneumonia, abcceses on spleen and liver, pleurual effusions, and likely my vagus nerve was cut so now my stomach does not empty well (gastroparesis). chest tubes, jp drains, you name it - i had it. had some other bizarre issues. finally after 5 antibiotics things turned around. also had a splenic infarct (not heart)...rare but not unheard of. i get very nauseous easily and had tpn inpt then feeding tube then i got a bit better - got that out..developed malnutrion - nasojejunum tube placed for feeding for 32 days (horrible) then got a new j tube in feb. replaced in april and still in use. i can eat a bit. crackers sometimes. i am to try to eat but liquids and food just come right up sometimes without warning. i am told by specialists that i never had a leak, but my surgeon i see locally said yes, subclincal leak- i was too ill not to have had one. i get low grade fevers easily if i do not flush my line to stay hydrated and on those days - in bed for the day. BUT i know i will get better. i want to go back to work. my sleeve was done by dr reyes in mexico. i am told my my team here that it is pristine and an excellent job but who knows who caused what to create the spiraling effects. i have kaiser and love my care...i am lucky to have my insurance. so i think that covers it.....open to questions, etc. hope everyone has a good day. raining here in june in marin county ca!!!! crazy!
