    March 2014 Sleevers

I changed my username to match my new blog, in case anyone gets confused. If you ever want to check it out, it is sleeviewonder.wordpress.com. There's only a couple posts right now but my goal is to have recipes and all sorts of other helpful stuff on there.

What stage are you in? That's a little heavy for only being sleeved on 3/20. My stomach hurts just thinking about eating something like that lol. Well good luck either way. Temptation is hard, but I would think it would be best to try and nip it in the bud in the beginning.

    How to live...

If you can find a local support group I highly recommend attending one. There are many people who attend (in my experience) that are up to 10 years out. Some may be bypass, but there really isn't much if a difference in terms of how life is that far out. The two that I met had gained some weight back. Probably like 10% of their weight. But they were the ones who took it upon themselves to go to these groups to get back on track, which is very cool to me. They say even 10 years out it is still a daily struggle. Unfortunate junk food still tastes good and it's easy to slip up. Just gotta take it one day at a time...

Had my first negative spectator comment

Ugh.. "the easy way out" ... Have they even done ANY research on the surgery and what post-op is like?? Yeah, ok.. Getting most of your stomach removed, plus the pain after surgery, plus eating next to nothing for a few weeks, gradually eating more but healthy foods, exercising, counting calories, drinking 60+ grams protein a day... YEP. That's TOTALLY the easy way out. Sorry for the rant. I give you props for not lecturing her like I would have

    How long to "feel" better

I'm down a little over 50 lbs and finally feeling better. I started at 320 and I'm at 267 now. My 4-year-old is 46 lbs and I can barely lift her.. How the heck did I walk around with the equivalent of her PLUS MORE all this time? And I STILL got 100 to go lol.

    How to Cope?

I had my "last hoo-rah" (more like a boo-rah) at Disneyland 4 days before surgery. I was miserable my feet hurt and I was uncomfortable on most of the rides. A lot of the rides I did not partake for the fear of humiliation. I just kept reminding myself this is the last time I will feel like this. I was just there two days ago, 50 lbs lighter, and my feet never hurt, I got to ride rides more comfortably, and was actually able to get on Peter Pan with my boyfriend and 4 year old. My butt was always too big to share a ride! I can only imagine how even MORE amazing it will be after I get the rest of the weight off. The point is, make the best of it, but just remember that all these insecurities and physical limitations will all be a thing of the past soon. I hope you have an amazing time either way.

PSA: the Syntrax nectar medical unflavored Protein powder is good. And I am super picky when it comes to Protein. One scoop is 10 grm protein so I used 3 to get 30 grams. banana cheesecake smoothie: 10 ice cubes 1/4 packet ff SF cheesecake Jello mix 1/2 cup ff milk (or almond milk or soy, whichever you prefer) 1/2 banana Blend until smooth or until you get desired consistency. For those worrying about protein, I will be 6 weeks out on wed and this is pretty much my first Protein shake after surgery. It won't kill you but you will guaranteed feel like crap without protein. So I am happy to have this unflavored to start mixing so I can start feeling better. Also: while it IS unflavored, it DOES still have a taste. But it is mild. Hope everyone is doing well! Edit: spelling

    March 2014 Sleevers

I had 3 NSVs at Disneyland yesterday: 1. My feet never hurt. Before surgery my feet would hurt within the first half hour. 2. I could go through the turnstiles without getting stuck for a couple seconds (which was always mortifying) 3. My boyfriend, daughter, and myself can all fit on Peter Pan! My boyfriend would always have to ride by himself because the three of us couldn't all fit together in one ship. Not to mention we weren't even squished, we were comfortable . Edit: Also noticed I am out of the 40s BMI range! Anyone else have any NSV's they want to share?

It is the variety i am missing. I know I am not hungry as such, I am just trying to eat the best of what i can have. I spent nearly 50 bucks on whey protein and I can not stomach it in the shake. I will try it in other things tomorrow. I just had a spoon of refried beans with salsa, a little light cheese and light sour cream. It was like a mini Mexican feast, it was nice to break the monotony. It wont be long and we can have crispy. I hear ya. Has anyone else's tastes changed? I was a huge milk drinker before. Like, two large glasses with dinner type of drinker. Now I drink like 1/4 cup and it tastes awful. I made tuna salad, as well as egg salad, which I used to love. Now it tastes weird to me. Everything does. I get to start regular foods in 5 days and although I am excited about the variety, I am just sure that I am not going to enjoy 99% of things. Definitely puts a new meaning to "eat to live, not live to eat". That's literally what I've been doing lately.

Anyone have any suggestions for calcium citrate? I bought the normal kind and my surgeon said to slice with a pill cutter. Well that just makes jagged edges and they're a pain (literally) to get down. Seems like all the chewable ones I find have added sucrose.

Oh yes. I cry at the drop of the hat anymore. My daughter watches Disney movies and I get choked up on the ones that I've even seen 10 times. It's because our hormones are all out of whack with this surgery.

    Who is in March?

Attending a support group was actually a pre-op requirement for me. I really enjoyed sitting and listening to everyone. I'd love to go again now that I am post-op but it just doesn't work with my work schedule

    1st 12 hours after sleeve

I didn't have any pain, a little burning in my stomach area and a little discomfort in my back and chest from the gas. Spent the first 12 hours sleeping the anesthesia off mostly. Hang in there!

    Odd feeling after "eating"

I get it too. In fact I have it right now. It's very uncomfortable and makes eating less enjoyable and more of a chore. But I'm not complaining, I'm glad my food addiction has finally gotten better!
  16. Sorry if it's been asked, but any loose skin? By the pics it doesn't seem like it. I am a couple years younger than you so I am hoping it will snap back. You look amazing by the way! Cute outfits

    Any Regrets?

If you feel you will have regrets then reconsider the surgery. At the risk of being yelled at, I have to say that people who get on here 1 day post op saying they have regret really grind my gears. There's no going back once it's done. Might as well accept it for what it is! And 9/10 times the same person is posting a month later saying how happy they are that they had the surgery. But seriously though. Why go though with something you're not even 100% sure about? This is a very permanent decision. I, on the other hand, have not had one single regret. I am so happy I did this and it is quite exciting watching the number on the scale go down. Good luck.

Oi, 5 weeks of full liquids? You are much stronger than me! I could barely stand 2. But it's understandable why your surgeon does it.

I get the burning sometimes too. I am on an acid reducer too :/. Guess it could be worse...
  20. I'm a DL pass holder and have only gone once since surgery. It took sooo much out of me. Not to mention there is like nothing wls friendly to eat there (I was in puréed when I went. Ended up eating a little unsweetened applesauce.) I probably won't go back for another few weeks, so that way I can be on regular foods by then.

    Weight coming off too fast?

I have lost almost 50 lbs since my pre-op diet, and I started my pre-op diet on Feb 26th (39 days ago). That averages to like 10 lbs a week. I know that I am in the "honeymoon" stage and I am making the most of it, because when it DOES slow down, I want to already be close to goal (but even then that is wishful thinking). I am on meds for my galbladder so I am not worried about gal stones or anything forming, which can happen with rapid weight loss.
  22. I just entered week 5 (sleeved March 5th) and am going to start hitting the gym this week. I got the ok from my surgeon so I am going to start doing stuff that is a little more up-tempo than walking. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm really looking forward to it!

    Different stages of food

My guidelines: Day 1-3: Clear Liquids Day 4-14 (Week 1 & 2): Full Liquids Day 15-28 (Week 3 & 4): Pureeds Day 29-42 (Week 5 & 6): Soft **where I'm at right now** Day 43-56 (Week 7 & 8): Regular and then regular food from then on. It will only be the meal size that increases. It starts at 1/4 cup and it will eventually be 1-1 1/2 cups at a year out. But every surgeon has their own guidelines.

    pre-op cramps GAS/poop

Anxiety and stress definitely causes gas and stomachaches (with urges to poop.) Could maybe be the shakes, too. But maybe it's a mixture of both.
