Any Kaiser pt's in/around Denver?
sleevie.wonder replied to BlessedBeyondMeasure2012's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm currently going through the Kaiser pre-requirements, but in So-Cal, so it may be different. In So-Cal you have to do 12 weekly classes, then all the appointments and tests on-between. From what I've heard, as soon as the ball gets rolling, it should only take about 4 months from start to surgery. -

Thanks so much! I went on kaisers website and it turns out they don't have a number on file for me. Grr I'm so mad at myself! I am going to call tomorrow. Hopefully I can still get in the August classes. Do you remember what day of the week yours was? -

Young Children Visiting Post-Surgery
sleevie.wonder replied to miss_cee85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think about this, too, and I don't even have a surgery date lol. I am just weird about hospitals... I wouldn't want my 3 y/o (will be 4 by the time I have surgery I'm sure) to catch something while visiting me. But then again, I haven't been one night away from her... EVER... so I know I will miss her. She is very attached to me so I hope she handles it well... -
Kaiser SO CAL? Surgeons
sleevie.wonder replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just a general question... I Had my PCP appointment yesterday. I asked for a referral for bariatric surgery and he put in a referral for it, and he referred me for the health classes (I'm assuming and HOPING the Options program?) he says its a process, which I know. Anyhow, just wondering how long it took for them to call you to get everything going? He said they would be in touch with me. I'm getting my bloodwork done tomorrow as he said it would be good to have that done and over with. -

Hi! I still have yet to see my PCP but I have Kaiser and will *hopefully* be starting my Options class asap. My PCP is in Redlands and the classes will probably be through Fontana. How did you like the classes? How has your experience been so far? I am willing to do anything at this point but I hear there are waiting lists. which sucks. Best of luck to you!

To the others who "let themselves go"
sleevie.wonder posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For some reason, the thing on my mind tonight is all of the things I need to fix in my life. These past four years I completely let myself go. I gained 100 lbs and stopped caring about myself. My teeth aren't as white, my nails and hair aren't done anymore, I don't (not to mention can't) dress nice anymore. Now that I am finally taking steps to regain control of my life again, I am sitting here looking at myself going, hooooly moly. This may take a while. This is not an assumption that many of us have "let ourselves go", but I am just curious. How did you finally take control for good? This surgery is an amazing tool that I am so excited to get in a few months. But obviously it isn't going to fix the deeper things going on. Is this stuff that I will go over come my psych eval? -
The way I see it, the time is going to pass either way. My surgery won't be until the end of the year--maybe next year-- and I am accepting of that. Just going to use this time to better prepare myself, physically and mentally, for this surgery. Either way, hope you get in sooner

To those who went through Kaiser Redlands, who is your PCP? I officially have Kaiser and am trying to get the ball rolling, but there are so many PCPs to choose from and didn't want to waste time with a randomly choosen dr who is going to turn my referall request down anyway. -

Thank you for your reply. Do you happen to know what time of day the classes are? I am in the Redlands area but commute to Palm Springs every day for work, so I am gone 10+ hours a day. Hopefully they have an evening class... -

Hi everyone, I'm going to be getting Kaiser insurance very soon and am in the redlands area, so reading such amazing reviews is awesome. Can I ask what the options program is and if it is required? TIA -

Hi everyone! I'll be turning 25 on the 3rd and would love to have that be the cutoff of my obesity because I have been chubby, then overweight, then obese my entire life. I see women on here saying how they wish they did it sooner... And I know I don't want to have that regret 10 or even 5 (hell or even 1) years from now. I've been researching and considering this for over a year now. Anyway! I am about to pass my 90 day probation period at my new job and along with that I will be signing up with health insurance (not sure which one exactly) and am curious... How many had to do the supervised weight loss for six months before approval? What hoops did you have to jump through to get approval? Did you have co-morbidities? My bmi is 42 or 43 (haven't weighed myself in a while due to shame...) but really don't have any co-morbidities aside from anxiety (if that even is one) and sleeplessness. Please and thank you for any replies. I am so serious about this surgery

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here I just started a great new job last month and it will come with full benefits after my 90 day probation period (some time in May I am guessing.) I've been on government insurance the past year or so. So when I have my insurance, how crazy would it be of me to just flat-out ask my doctor for this surgery? And would the insurance just laugh at me since I would be brand new? I've been looking in to this surgery for almost a year now. Just been waiting on the right time. If it helps at all, I'm 24 5'9 297 lbs.

I hope I have as great as luck as you . Best of luck!

Thank you for the quick reply! I'm hoping not too many hoops. But I'm willing to do anything at this point.

Extreme Fatigue And Palpitations
sleevie.wonder replied to lady lisa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It could be lack of electrolytes, and/or lack of potassium. You can take supplements for that. Powerade Zero has added electrolytes and potassium. -
That is how I feel as well (first paragraph). I have like a 90% chance of developing heart disease and other complications from being obese, and this surgery will potentially save me from that. I am willing to take the "chance".
