Things I'm gonna miss the MOST

You definitely will. I am almost 9 days post op and I would love nothing more than to down a bottle of water right now. In fact I'm drinking more than I should just to KIND OF satisfy this horrible need to drink a ton of water. Instead of 1oz every 15 mins it's more like 3oz. No problems yet, but I'm not going to push it. It helps to sip all the time so that you don't get too thirsty to where you want to gulp.

    Newbie

Welcome! Good job taking this step for your health. I am emotional eater as well which definitely persuaded my getting this surgery. Best of luck in your journey. There's lots of info here

    Revision done 3/12/2014

I get the weird cramping as well. Kind of like a big bubble that forms in my stomach every time I swallow something a little too much. I personally didn't have a drain, but it is very common to have one after surgery. Best of luck!

    Who is in March?

My surgeon was Dr. Chin, and it was done at St. Bernadine hospital in San Bernardino. I am extremely happy with my Kaiser experience

    Feeling sick to my stomache

I don't think it would be the anesthesia after a week. Are you eating too much/too fast? Try sipping a little slower. A Zofran prescription could help, my surgeon prescribed me the dissolvable kind but I haven't needed to use them yet. Good luck.

    Disneyland

Just be sure to take it easy. There are plenty of places to sit and rest. Are you guys staying for a few days? If so, if you start to feel too burnt out, you can always go back to the hotel to rest. You can go in and out of the park as long as you have a hand stamp. We have annual passes and I am feeling like I'm already ready to go back soon and I am only 8 days out.

5 Months Post Op, Revision Needed

Yikes, that sucks . Also scares me because I am losing very rapidly at the moment. Best of luck
  9. Had surgery a week ago today and haven't had a bm. Nurse told me to try liquid colace, but Rite Aid only had the capsules. So she said as a 2nd choice get milk of magnesia. I'm going to take it before bed. Just wondering if it worked for anyone? She said as a last resort to use a fleet suppository, which doesn't sound pleasant at all. Also, how often are we even supposed to be having bm's while we are on liquids?

    Milk of magnesia for constipation

Thanks everyone! I took the Phillips milk of mag last night before bed and woke up to a bm. Wasn't pretty but it's peace of mind I guess lol.

    Who is in March?

The nurses are wonderful. Don't hesitate to ask for anything, that's what they encourage. I brought my cell phone and iPad and that was all I needed, really. The first day after surgery I was mainly sleeping off the anesthesia and then getting up to walk. I had a morphine pump, which I could push every 6 minutes. Definitely kept the pain at bay. My advice: push it every 6 minutes so that the pain doesn't have a chance to creep back up. I personally didn't push it very often, strictly because I was one of the weird ones that when I pushed it, I could TASTE it. Same thing happened when the anesthesiologist but the anesthesia in my IV, I could taste it before I went under. Blech! Nurses said it's not too common but it happens. But I digress.

    Sleeved yesterday

My surgeon didn't do a leak test either. Only during surgery. He said if a leak is going to happen, it's going to happen. I'm glad I didn't have to do a swallow test to be honest.

    Sleeved yesterday

Each day will be a little better than the last, if even by a little. Day 6 was the day I woke up and felt like a whole different person: minimal pain and a clearer head. Give your body the time it needs to heal and be sure to take pain meds when you need them, as being in pain slows down healing. Everyone's recoveries are different so there's no use in comparing yours to others. Hang in there!

    Who is in March?

I had terrible dry mouth in the hospital. Ice chips helped the most. Crush some ice and suck on it. Helps get your water in too.

    Who is in March?

These thoughts got worse for me as I was in the surgical holding area waiting to be wheeled into the OR. But just keep those positive thoughts in your head as to WHY you are doing this, and you will be fine. Next thing I knew I was in the OR and heard the anesthesiologist say "good night!" and I was waking up in recovery. It's not an easy ride, but worth it. Good luck

    Who is in March?

So you decided to go through with it! That's great. Glad you're well. I'm still having trouble with liquids too, seems we all do :/. I love water, but the protein shakes SUCK.

    Im approved!

Congrats! Completely normal to be nervous. My stomach was in knots the entire week before. Then the night before I was calm and accepting and slept great. No idea how that happened but everything went perfectly. You will do fine! Good luck!

    To good to be true

I went from waiting around for the past 8 months to all of the sudden my date was the following week. Trust me, any date will seem too soon! Just educate and prepare yourself as much as possible from now until then. And be sure to go into surgery with a positive outlook and positive thoughts, it made a world of difference for me. Good luck

    February/March 2014 sleevers

Well good to know I'm not alone, but still baffling! I'm just going to assume that my liquid intake isn't anywhere where it used to be, so I guess I'm not going to be needing to go as much. And a little PSA: I've never been so happy to eat tomato Soup in all my life <3

    today is day 5

I had surgery a day before you, and my stomach is making all sorts of noise too. It's just gas! I will get this somewhat painful full feeling then I will feel a bubble come up and then I burp it out. Definitely going to take some getting used to. I've got the head hunger bad, too. Reading these helped a lot: http://www.livingafterwls.com/Library/Food%20Grief.html & http://www.livingafterwls.com/Library/Head%20Hunger.html#featured (it's geared towards gastric bypass but it's the same mentality that we deal with.) I also opened up a couple shopping tabs on my computer and "window shopped" online all the stuff I want to be able to wear. It really helped! That said, I can't wait for pureed food lol.

    vitamins

And according to my nut, gummies are a terrible way to take vitamins. Apparently they just don't work as well in gummy form, and according to her, you just end up with expensive poop. Chewables are the way to go.

    vitamins

I second these! I take two a day as well.

    Pre-op Sugar Addict... Worried

My surgeon did say that kicking a sugar habit is harder than kicking a carb habit. I loved my sweets. But now after surgery my stomach will not tolerate anything sweet! Even though I am happy about it, it was SUPER rough the first few days since all my liquid meds were all sweet fruit flavored. I can barely stand jello . BUT maybe the same will happen to you, you just never know until post-surgery. Just keep your eyes on the prize.

    February/March 2014 sleevers

Ok kind of an odd question, but for some reason I seem to have lost the urge to pee? I have to remind myself to go sit on the toilet and I will pee. But as far as the feeling of needing to pee, it is nonexistent now. Is that bad? And it's only been since I got home from the hospital. Because there were a few times where I definitely needed to pee when I was there. Are things swollen and maybe effecting it? Or am I just not drinking enough to get that sensation anymore? It's kinda weirding me out.
